The X5 is the only BMW they haven't destroyed with the new bizzare styling changes. It looks, drives and performs great. Easily one of the best in class.
I still think they should have left some redundant physical controls as well as the hand stick gear selector. Those are two items they should go back to the drawing boards. Besides, its not Gen Z who were born with a phone in their hands that are buying BMWs. Most of the buyers are middle aged and grew up with knobs and buttons. Please bring them back!
After watching your X5 review in 2021 a couple of times, I bought a new 2021 X5 xDrive40i. I tested drove GLE350, GLE450 and X5 40i, I decided to go with X5 40i. Thank you for the review.
If only the dealer experience was better. Every time we take our car in for service (at least in our dealership) there always seems to be an issue and customers are left feeling that the Service Dept is doing them a favor.
I’d swap out run flats for a conventional tire. Less noise, smother more compliant ride and stay with 21” maximum side wall. BMW has a nice 21” wheel option. The turbo 6 mild hybrid is the way to go and I don’t need a 3rd row, so more cargo space. Good MPG and power! Interior is perfect but less knobs means more distractions. It’s my fav SUV at about $82k USD. Good review. 👍
I picked up my 2024 X5 50e in May and like it a lot. I went with the 21 inch wheels and they are very comfortable; nothing jittery about the ride. The only thing I don`t like is the climate controls in the screen. And this Sensafin stuff is super nice. Easy to clean and doesn`t get too hot or cold. Great ride and awesome mpg.
I love that no matter what Andrea's driving .... Moped or a big engine - she hammers the throttle - NO MATTER WHAT. (always wearing the red boots). LOL
Very good review. We are happy owners of this vehicle since May. Love it. We left MB for this due to reviews. So far so good. Thank you for all that you do for us on educating us about various vehicles. You guys are great.
@@andreaspencer9813 Can you get the Bowers and Wilkins on the 40i? Is the 40i more of a comfortable ride than the 60i? or the 40i with the msport appearance package?
Of the German full size SUVs (save the G-wagons), I think BMW has been nailing this market from the beginning. Every generation of the X5 gets a little better in every way (looks, interior, F & F, etc.). Better… but never better than the British icons offered from Land Rover. Except in … resale, new prices, reliability, maintenance, fuel mileage, parts/dealership prices, electronics (screens), fuel management systems, etc…. So that’s why I’d prefer the Range Rover. Makes sense… right? Probably not. But of the Germans, in a game of Top Trumps…? The BMW X5 all day long. Especially if modified by Alpina. Thanks for the video.
Leg room is super important for me as a tall driver 6’6” with tall teenagers. Unfortunately the X5 isn’t great for tall people. The q7 and even the GLE are still the better option for me. Too bad as there is much to love about the X5. :)
Just bought a 2024 X5 with M sport package. 21” mixed run flat tires. I think it’s a great combination. I would actually like the wheel to be a little more stiff like my m440i. Sport mode is a little bit better. Comfort the wheel is really soft. Touch screen everything is a pain at first but I have gotten used to it. My Q8 had touch screen everything so I guess that’s the way things are going.
This is a great-looking vehicle! I love that BMW did not mess up the headlights as they did the X7’s. BMW has to do a better job with the integration of the digital screens. They would look better if they sat flush on the dashboard, the way Kia does it with the Telluride. Overall, though, this thing looks great! And that’s a pano roof!
Great review as usual, you guys do it best. I agree with and would LOVE to follow Zack's advice to drive the various suspension/wheel options before I order what I want, but my experience has been I am lucky to drive ANY X5, let alone the configuration I think I want to own. That's why in-depth, detailed reviews that give opinions and provide suggestions on the options (like you do!) are so valuable.
Great review. Sounds like it will be successful, but it sounds like I would enjoy CPO X5 more. As much as I don’t appreciate the “softening” of the mainline Beemers, going soft probably helps with market share.
I just drove the Cayenne base and it was a dog on acceleration. However, it is still a nice car. I got lucky on a buy of ‘25 X5. A wealthy guy trades 10 cars a year and dumped his Silver Edition after a month of owning, still under 1,000 miles. The deal worked because the Ford dealer that had is wanted it gone. I got $10k more on my trade in than the Porsche dealer offered for my ‘23 SQ5. Still, overall I am probably more of an Audi guy. I wanted a bigger car; something more “genteel” but the X5 does have some good get up and go. The Sport seat I am still trying to figure out as the seat back side bolsters apparently do not adjust and pinch me in the ribs. Nice car and although I am not THAT rich, I am not sure how long I will keep this one. I might consider a SQ8 down the road as it only costs under $200 to change the oil vs $800 in the Porsche. I got rid of the SQ5 because as a Macan “light” handled well and you can kill yourself if not careful; wicked fast for me.
I have the 2022 version of this. I much prefer my screen lay out with physical climate control. Also doubt power is up at all, but rather they are simply being more accurate. Love my 2022. Exterior tweaks look good though
Very nice car but in Eastern Europe the X5,Q7 and Range Rover all suffer from acute form of Houdini syndrome-no matter how well you lock them at night, in the morning they have somehow managed to escape.😂😂😂
3rd row seating is still an option in Sweden, but only with the 30d engine choice. Hopefully they will add it to 40i and 40d soon as they had with pre-LCI. But neither 40i or 40d is an option right now.
This is one great looking BMW, which is unfortunately a rare occurrence lately. I'm happy that the unsightly beaver teeth grill hasn't taken over the full BMW lineup (yet?).

I'm getting tired of giant wheels - give me some 18 or 19" rims (okay, *maybe* 20") with a 55 or 60 series tires. Far more practical for the horrible roads in the SF Bay Area.
I really liked the engine, power and performance that makes the BMW X5 among the best SUVs... I liked seeing you driving in white clogs. I wish success and many sales.
Interior looks pretty much as an office desk with a monitor on it, as well as on many other cars, particularly Tesla. Imposed false style, aimed at saving money in sacrifice of the classic esthetics.
Great review Zak and Andrea! The price is shocking and feels like something will have to change especially with interest rates having risen. Here’s another shocker… the Audi competition is $15K+ less than the other Germans. Is the Audi really that much less machine? What are we missing here? It’s starting to become clear why Audi is selling better than the other Germans in Canada these days.
As usual, a fine and interesting review. A couple of follow-up questions: (1) For rural residents is there a spare tire option? BMW US usually offers one, but BMW Canada usually does not (I've asked) for some reason. I once had to flatbed my X3 180 km because of a run flat sidewall failure. (2) I think HUD is great, but older BMW HUDs did not integrate with Apple CarPlay turn-by-turn directions. Fixed? (3) Your review car(s) seem to have low profile tires ... great for tire and rim repair shops but bad for rural residents like me (or pothole ridden roads in Montreal and Toronto). Thanks for a great channel.
I would take 21' inch run flat tires because of safety reasons even if they are more noisy. BMW is a sport SUV and nobody goes under 40 miles on this spaceship so if you can upgrate safeness you should definitly do this. As fo me I prefer Porsche products over BMW but consider new Mazda CX-90 as economy alternative.
As always, your videos are fantastic. You highlight the good and bad with helpful insights. I’ve been wondering why there was no 2024 X5 video yet, so very glad to see one. This car is the sweet spot in the luxury midsize SUV segment. When it comes to performance, luxury, comfort, efficiency and yes, even value. When you see something like the GLE with a wound up four banger for the same price, it’s no contest. So I ordered an X5 xdrive40i in the lovely Tanzanite Blue. Also got cognac Sensafin instead of the leather because it felt just as good and should be easier to maintain. Anyways, thanks for your reviews. They’ve been a big help when car shopping. Kudos. PS To your comments about the MDX and Q7, it’s true that those are good options in some ways. The one thing that makes a huge difference is fuel economy. The Acura and Audi have significantly worse fuel economy as compared to the BMW
Hope you like it. I just ordered that blue, with M Sport and M Pro, black 22-inch wheels and white leather. Gave a hard look to Acura and Audi, and even Mazda, but they all fall short one way or another.
I’d love to pull the plug on the X5 40i, but 50% depreciation over the first three years is a killer, so I’m going with the RX350. Not as luxurious, but reliability and much better depreciation makes sense since we trade every couple years.
Very nice! 👍🏻 The exterior is ok but interior is an interesting design. The front seats looks very comfortable but backseats could do a little better. Good gas mileage tho. Zack still talking about mother-in-law! 😂 Great show Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
