This is easy for me, it's the Lexus all the way. But get this, my Lexus dealer is selling the GX 550 at MSRP and the Toyota dealers are all price gouging. With the final comparison you make in this video, it would be less expensive to purchase the Lexus than the Toyota! Also, my sales agent said it appears that all the Lexus dealers in AZ have stopped taking deposits for 2024. Super high demand. Finally, the sales and service experience at a Lexus dealer is in a different league than at Toyota.

This is actually why I went with the Lexus GX 550 reservation vs. a Ford Ranger Raptor. All dealers wanted $10-20k over MSRP, for that price, I just bought a better vehicle.

After having 20 years of experience with 2 Lexus GX’s, all I can say is they’re ridiculously well made and engineered. I’ve never had more reliable vehicles, and the dealership experience is second to none, so go GX. Also, the turbo V-6 is to me is the way to go for longevity and refinement. Way less complexity and weight of the hybrid system which should equate to longer life, plus in my experience Lexus / Toyota turbo 4’s are kind of harsh and crude.

What you call a Landcruiser, we call a Prado. In Australia a Landcruiser is the 300 series and I think the perfect overland vehicle. The drivetrain is just thicker and stronger, same as the Lexus. It has a V6 diesel 3,3l. So strong and great mileage. I feel you guys miss out not having the bigger Landcruiser 300.

The folks in America are not missing out on a "bigger" Landcruiser 300 - the new 250 Series (aka Prado) is pretty much identical in size to the 300, sharing the same TNGA-F platform and identical wheel base. Only the sheet metal makes the 300 about 5 cm longer than the new Prado. Same interior space, possibly a bit more cramped in the 300 due to the very tall center console.

For that small of a price difference, I want the Lexus ownership experience. Driving an LX450 for the adventure car has been amazing, but it's too old to have ever sampled the true dealership experience I hear folks fall over themselves describing.
The superior towing numbers, Lexus interior, and eKDSS seal the deal. As for fuel economy, I do very little city driving, and the highway numbers are close enough. I'm willing to pay the small penalty.

The quality of the video is 10/10. The graphics, soundbites.. really great stuff. I love the lexus and would love to sawsall it. LC is gonna be the cheaper build due to aftermarket support.
One thing I think you missed here is the rpm of the top torque. Small criticism since all channels do this, but I always have higher expectations of you hahaha! I think the gas mileage is a lot due to the transmission and turbos, but the torque curve comes into play, plus it's a talking point for offroad use.

Even with my contracts with Lexus, I’m probably going Land Cruiser. I tend to go back and forth between a Lexus and Toyota every other year. 2 main reasons for the Land Cruiser over the GX (this is me comparing the middle LC with the premium package to the GX Overtrail non plus model) the first reason is the hybrid, as someone who drives a lot (around 40k miles a year), the MPG makes a massive difference in my monthly bills, also I believe the LC will take regular gas as the GX will take premium, the 2nd reason is the interior. As much as I love the Lexus interior I’m just absolutely in love with that brown interior in the LC. I’m personally not a fan of the interior color choices of the GX at all, especially with the green accents.

Thanks for the comparison. Working the configurators - I came out with an $1800 diff (70,900 overland vs 69,100 LC). For me, i'd go with the GX for the EKDSS, fit & finish, & powertrain. Unfortunately, I believe GX will not be as easy as the LC for getting aftermarket updates.

  • @ArkVogel
    @ArkVogel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I get the feeling that Toyota didn't put a V6 in the LC because they knew it would tank the GX sales. The GX looks to be an amazing offroader but It doesn't look as mod friendly as the LC, and I would know about that because I have a 2020 Grand Cherokee Summit with the last facelift it got and it's insanely hard to find something that actually fits without having to downgrade the whole front to the pre-facelift model.

I'm lucky enough to own both a 16 GX and a 22 4Runner right now, I think this was a great review of comparing them on paper. In real world for only $1500 I'd pick the Lexus, its a bigger bang for the buck. From my experience, the GX will have much better ride quality, better sound insulation, and better build quality in terms of noise and squeak gremlins. These are pretty big factors for daily driving, and $1500 seems like a bargain. Lexus dealer experience is miles ahead of Toyota, its on the level and surpassed other luxury brands. That's also a big factor. Ability to tow more, better infotainment software and under stressed engine, at these prices the GX wins. I'm not sure if both have self closing rear hatches. I think once the 25 4Runner comes out, it'll be cheapest one.
I'm very curious when TFL or some other channel does a side by side test drive.

Legendary, reliability , Simplicity of a V6 without hybrid. No hybrid equals better reliability, less systems to fail while out on the trail. More space and towing. Ability to have no moonroof, because who cares about that when you have a rooftop tent and stuff covering it. Ultimately, the biggest one for me is the E - KDSS. If you watch the videos on how the E - KDSS works, and the amount of travel with that new suspension on the over trail, is astounding. Personally, I would end up with the Lexus GX. If it comes down to about a $1500 difference to get a four year 50,000m basic warranty on Lexus versus a three-year 36 on a Toyota I would pay that not to mention the six versus a hybrid system, looking at it long-term less moving parts less things that can potentially go wrong

Fuel capacity- there shouldn’t be any reason why the bigger GX tank can’t swap into the LC.
Articulation- they aren’t marketing a designated off-road LC yet, so that might be the hold-back on LC articulation.
Fuel Econ- will be important to see how much difference remains once both are on 34-35” tires and saddled with drag-chute roof rack.

I think it's an easy decision simply because of aftermarket support. I'm betting that many more people will be modifying the Land Cruiser then the Lexus. I see a few older Lexus' modded for offroad but basically none of the newer models, they are almost exclusively mall crawlers.

As an owner of a modified Lexus GX 460, I would choose the Land Cruiser. I live in southern Texas. The places I want to see are very far away. Gas is expensive. Also, I want to see the mountains, and a turbo engine loses much less power at elevation.

The correct answer is None Of The Above.... Based on the volatile state of military conflict in the world at large there a very strong likelihood that fuel prices can see a sudden and very significant increase over the next 24 months. You don't want to get stuck with a vehicle that has poor fuel economy numbers. Therefore the smart money would wait for the Hybrid Lexus GX variant to become available.

Most reliable based on scientific data? Engineers, technicians are not scientists 😂
Toyota's hybrid system used for the trucks raises power with no added taxing or stress to the engine. In fact, it is the exact opposite and helps untax the engine, which will enhance the engine lifetime, by relieving a small percentage of the work load from the engine Toyota was very clever to use the hybrid as they have.
