The exynos processor on this is great. Samsung finally nailed it with this one. It's not a perfect phone because the camera isn't great, but the performance is great on this. I don't think it performs that well in benchmark tests, but it never lags, never heats up, and great battery life.
It's a great phone for a reasonable price, great camera, great battery and so smooth, doesn't even lag at all, also u can make it faster by removing Animations and unlock Animations and not limiting the processor, and the phone flies, I got the 256gb version
@@samlebon9884 I don't think A-series phones get Dex, but as an A-series user I can live without it, since I've never found a scenario where I felt the need for Dex.
As someone that's not live in US, I thought all Americans are super rich so they're not even care about midrange smartphones and limited brand available 😅
Americans are very tired of spending $700-$1000+ for phones. Most people here just get a 2 year carrier contract and pay monthly for the phone, or the get a buy-one-get-one deal with a new service contract. But a lot of people nowadays want a cheap, flexible, prepaid carrier plan and a cheap unlocked phone that just works
Most of them aren't rich, but they like to look rich. There's people there that will go into debt to get the latest iPhones just so they don't seem "broke" to their friends and stangers instead of buying a midrange android within their budget
For someone who owns an S24 Ultra I would say this phone (A55) is the one to buy if you are smart. Software and security support for 5yrs, sd card, premium build, decent camera, great screen, 8gb ram on 256gb storage, gorgeous display. I bought 20 units for our users in the company because it’s just one of those phones out there that has a premium feel and brand with 3rd of the price.
Just got it yesterday after debating for weeks between the a55, z flip 6 and s24. A friend already had the a55 and that's what finally convinced me to keep half the price in my pocket and still get nearly everything the s24 has to offer. I'm honestly in love with it
It's not necessarile you pay less but get the samey .. But it's natural , you get diminishing returns, I understood it the hard way after being a spec lover , I'm the kind of buy that buys these " Who needs gaming phones " kind of stuff or Overpowered specs. but yeah find the sweet spot for yourself ! my old A10 can play some games too and it's exynos 788B ; even worse than A9 bionic which is nearly in iphone 6. so yeah it all not what's on paper matter in real performance too ! , make sure to choose the right phone for yourself ! Price is a spec too. While I myself not rich , if I was I'd still be drolling over who ever beat iphone 18 bionic for 4ghz.. They have that much speed... I was baffled but I think hexacore. ( still tho I'm surprised for apple since I expected these from Dimensity instead ) I honestly think perfomance is not critically important and people who just want basic stuff , 24fps is fine in most games unless you care lot. 30- 40 is needed for online gaming but at that point you'd be worried about other specs too. I like phones that try something crazy , ofcource that means less people buys it .,
Solid video! I upgraded to an A55 from a Galaxy S10 because honestly, the A55 was 90% of the phone that the S24 was. It's definitely been a great phone, and I would recommend it to the same 90% who simply want the latest features, without the flagship price.
my S10 just died a month ago due to liquid damage (wasn't my fault at all) and i was pretty sad, as i had been using it for the last 4 years. luckily, a friend was selling his note 20 ultra, and he offered it to me for only $150, so i couldn't say no to that
I have the S23 as my personal phone and a couple of months ago, the company where I work for gave me a brand new A55 5G and I was (and still am) amazed by how good it is. These mid range phones are so great these days that spending much more for a flagship device is simply not worth it unless, for some specific reason, you REALLY NEED some feature that only a flagship can provide. If I needed to buy a new phone today, I'd definitely buy an A55 instead of an S24 or other flagship device. And if you are afraid that people will judge you, do yourself a favor and stay away from people like that.
As someone who is used to flagship samsung phones, the A55 definitely has its flaws, however the performance is pretty astounding. I play codm regularly and it doesnt lag, even whne power saving is on. The battery life is great, I can game for hours and phone will still have adequate charge to last the day. Only issues i have is the delay with the fingerprint and face id scanners. Otherwise amazing phone, looks great, works well. 9/10 😊
I have an S24+. I'll be honest, just on physical aspect, this matches S24+. I've tested both in-store and was really surprised. The physical quality is so good! It is put together so well.
I used to work in electronics retail. The A54 and A55 are best sellers. There's hardly a phone that sells itself easier than those 2, apart from iphones.
Wife got herself a pink A55, last one in the store. I would say it's selling good. Looks good, feels good but I don't think it offers anything more than the competition. Phone market got really stale in the last few years.
i feel like most people that buy iphones, do it because they saw it on tv, internet or status, like they use it for whatsapp, and instagram and thats it LOL
I've been using this phone for over a month now. It's an absolutely solid all-round package. The processor is decent for the price, I never saw any lag or stutter and with light use the battery can last 2 days.
Got this phone for my daughter a few months ago under USD 400 with a free Galaxy Fit 3. The fact it is not sold in the US surprises me a little bit but this is one of the best sellers worldwide so Samsung knows what they are doing.
The A52S nearly killed the FE line and the small S22-23 because of how good an overall deal it was for 350-400$/Euros while adding things like longer battery life, SD Card Reader 3.5mm Jack, the one reasons to jump up to the S Line at the time was really Software goodies (Like DEX) and a telephoto camera, but that costed you at least 300 More and for both mildly tech savvy people and average consumers it was difficult to justify that price premium for not really much percivable value, the next generations A53, 54 and 55 were nerfed by simply only updating the externals and letting the externals become obsolescent.
Exactly! The A52s is splendid when compared to all the rest of the phones that came later. They really nerfed the rest of the A5x series because they removed the 3.5mm jack and also bigger bezels. Worst of all are the processors
@@Crabby.1 the A55 simply caught up to what the A52S was sans the Headphone Jack and better build quality (if glass on glass is really that important) by all other metrics the A52S was the best overall midranger of it's generation, and the one after
Happy late birthday bro, Jesus loves you he died for your sins and he rose again to give you eternal life, repent and believe in him and he will use you to do mighty things❤.
I'm using the A35 and I actually forgot that I'm using an Exynos 1380 chipset phone. No lags, super stable, good battery life, performs well and very snappy. I even turn off the RAM Plus feature.
I work for a mobile carrier in the uk and I sell a tonne of a series devices. Customers don’t usually know what device to pick. Most customers either currently have or have had a Samsung device In the past so it is a brand they trust. The a55 is a cracking device with an amazing screen. I’d say a good 5/10 devices I sell. IOS AND ANDROID. Are A series Samsungs
I got an S24 a few months ago and thought it was a great decision.. good specs, 7 years of updates. I got my mom an A35 and set it all up, tested things out and I kind of wish I saved the money and got an A35 because before the end of software support I'll either want to get a newer phone or have to repair something. I even compares the cameras side by side and it's damn close. 4-5 years of updates is more than enough.
This is even a better reason to buy one in EU land where Samsung decided we weren't worth having the snapdragon in the s24 so the gap between them is even less.
its not as big of a difference, the snapdragon isnt even that much more powerful or battery efficient and thermals are fine on exynos too the days of the infamous exynos 990 and 2100 are gone
Honestly the 2400 is pretty darn good, it's worse than the snapdragon no question about that but it's still a really good chip. I have the S24 the battery lasts me same as any other phone would or as my friends phones do after comparing. The camera is really nice. I haven't had issues with performance and as for heating up and thermals it's been fine maybe it does get a tad warmer than the snapdragon (can't really compare) but i've never had it get to the point it's really uncomfortable. The worst it ever got was when recording 8K for a while on a really hot day with no wind.
@@petermikus2363 the 2400 and 8 gen 3 are very close though the 8 gen 3 is barely even 5% faster than the 2400 in multicore scores (both chipsets are identical in single core) but it does offer 30% uplift in gpu according to 3Dmark but 2400 offers 12% imporvement over 8 gen 3 in compute gpu acore according to geekbench
@reemanmoghrabi7568 both are good but s21 does have a telephoto for better zoom photos. If camera is your main focus then s21 . But overall a55 is better value
You got a cheap midrange phone, period. AI features are not supported for any of the Galaxy A series phones. I have a Nokia C2 Tava and the 4K or wide lens 8 megapixel AI camera would put that phone to shame😅.
@@Spector692 this exinus chip has a ray tracing gpu inside called xclipse 650 i think wich i think it could is capable of running all glaaxy ai features
@@Spector692 I can afford to buy an iPhone 16 Pro Max in cash or a Galaxy Ultra but I'm not the type who likes to spend hard earned money that easily. My wife got an iPhone 15 pro max 256 gb just 4 months ago.
I don´t live in the US, so this was an instant purchase. Coming from an a70, this is a serious step up! I noticed it can get a little warm, but nothing unbearable or too bad. I freaking love this thing❤
To add to it the exynos 1480 is a quite capable chip. Good enough for most average users. Close to the performance of a snapdragon 865. Which is enough for most users. This is only going to continue to improve each year. Great to see performance trickle down into the mid range as the years go by. I may use an s plus or s ultra device currently have an s24 ultra. But I definitely picked up the A55 for that sd card support to. Being able to drop in one of my 512gb or 1tb sd card is still a must especially on the go and while traveling. Storing movies, etc while only using the internal storage for apps. Plus I can drop games for emulation on my sd card and not having to worry about my storage being used up internally. Psp and dream cast games as well as 3ds games can add up to a lot of memory. If anyone's gaming for hours then just slap on a cooler with heat sink and cooling pad and sustained performance would be no issue.
Same here ... still using my A71 I got in March 2021 still works great. Bought A54 5G and just kept it waiting for this to break down. Have only replaced the screen 😊
I had an issue with my A71, whenever I make or receive a call, the person on the other end of the line always say that I keep breaking up, I tried getting it fixed, but they said it was a "carrier" issue, but I used the phone on 2 different carriers and the problem persisted. Other than that issue, it was a great phone, I now have a S23+ I got from AT&T trade in deal.
I got a71 at 2019 and used it until 2 months ago. I dropped it very bad and screen wasnt ok i wanted to change it and didnt bother with repari because it cost alot for 5 years old phone.
Watching on my A55. "Upgraded" from my iPhone XR just last month. Bought it for the monster battery life which is very useful for field work, but the screen and sound are very enjoyable for TH-cam, Netflix and LoL Wild Rift. I can say, though, that the software integration and ease of use from my iPhone was smoother and the photos have that je ne sais quoi, but the pros of the A55 outweigh its cons for my use case (and in managing my screentime). And I got my AI fix covered with the ChatGPT app on board. 2 days of no charging while on field work is just a *chef's kiss* Great review btw!
no no no, don’t worry, you upgraded from the iPhone XR. Even the processing power is slightly better, which is the main fault of the A series Samsung phones! Plus the iPhone XR may not get anymore updates after next year, so..
Going from an Exynos M31 to an Exynos A54 the jump in performance is really great, so I'm more than confident that the A55 is gonna be a banger for anyone who buys it. Amazing video as always Wade!
I went from the S10 to Zflip 4 to the A55. And the A55 has been amazing till now. Its just perfect for my use case. The zflip 4 did not survive more than a year with my use case.
hi there! im an a55 user. i love it the processor is very fast and sometimes my battery lasts 2 days! i absolutely loved your vid. i did some benchmarks myself and i got the same score most of the time. once even a little higher! (3 points but still :))

Watching this on my A54… I was very hesitant at first because of the Exynos processor but turns out it's fine!
Switched from a Poco f6 to A55 after several years of being a "MUH POWERFUL CHIPSET" kinda guy, because I got a taste of the newest One UI in tab S9 FE I bought for work purposes. It might count as a downgrade in the chipset department as Exynos 1480 is considerably weaker in benchmark etc. But I'm glad I changed, because One Ui is just that good (or hyper Os is just that bad and I'm just realizing it's flaw little by little) even with a much weaker processor, everything feels so smooth, no sudden freeze, lagspikes, annoying little bugs here and there, and Knox is really a blessing to have. It is surprising honestly, while the reason I changed were mainly because of the OS, the performance I get were still enough, and the premium build quality feels impressive. I'm still not going to be a Samsung guy because of the stinginess of theirs (separate adapter, no earphone jack - which is understandable for the IP67 but still) but overall this is one of the better options for anyone looking for a midrange
@@yuririi1920 if You're leaning for Hardcore gaming, 120fps competitive games at max graphics, I'd say go for F6 pro. But, if you're fine with playing games with settings that range from mid-high, almost everything else that A55 have is far better. Circle to search, modes & Routines, good lock, knox vault etc are all very nice to have. But alas, If you're going for budget phone, F6 Pro is capable to reach flagship's level performance on gaming
@@yuririi1920 If you're a hardcore gamer looking for max graphics settings and max performance on a budget, F6 pro is the one to go with. but If you're fine with mid-high performance based on the games, I'd say A55 wins in everything else. One Ui,Knox vault, Good lock, etc. Exynos from what i've seen online also did a great job at tasking work for the cpu, such as video rendering and beaten phone with higher specs cpu by quite a significant margin. the camera part also seems to be better, Samsung had much better color dynamic range and better night shot rendering. So, unless you're planning to play competitively and need that 120fps, max graphics settings for games (or maybe emulator), A55 is the one to go. TLDR: Want to game more? F6Pro. Everything else? A55
I just bought it with $375 in Indonesia. (Included a charger as a gift). I was having an iPhone 15 pro, l sold it and bought this one. In my view, no phone worths paying $500+ but the Z Fold6, because it can be used as a phone and a tablet at the same time.
So I'm gonna be honest I am an iPhone owner and honestly for the longest time. I've wanted my mother to buy an iPhone but she loves Samsung. She always had the note lineup after the Samsung Galaxy note series died off we were searching for other Samsung alternatives, and to be honest, my mother doesn't do much with her phone. She does web browsing some Facebook some casual photos here, and there, and I being the technological geek (maybe not) made the wise choice to buy her a mid range Samsung phone. And it all started with the Samsung A71. This phone was great because it was big, but it had some issues causing the phone to have some screen problems after that we were searching for another phone and saw the A54. This phone is great honestly has all the features that we were looking for has great battery life a high refresh rate screen and honestly for what my mother wanted it for it's absolutely perfect and nothing less than just perfect so for anyone who is looking for something that is just for media consumption and regular phone usage without much gaming involve this phone is for you. If I wasn't invested in the Apple ecosystem, this phone would be very attractive to me.
i been using it since release, replaceing from my old a70 it is great midrange phone, i glad buying it, good battery, screen, decent camera on the class, premium like, what else you wanted at the price point, good phone
The only reason why I'll prolly choose a flagship Samsung over an A-series is because of the cameras only lmao but everything else, I dont really mind since it's not that far off from the higher end devices.
depends which flagship S series phone the a55 has an objectively better camera than the one on s10+ as an example and a more powerful chipset, sure it is a 2019 phone but thats the thing, eventually A series phones will overtake the older flagships, even compared to the s20 i would still pick an a55 over an s20 or even an s21 for me it only begins with the s22 series where id pick an s22 over the a55 but again even that phone has its own issues which the a55 doesnt have, battery and thermals being the most notable ones due to it having the infamous snapdragon 8 gen 1/exynos 2200 which are both pretty bad when it comes to the battery life and thermals
You know the A54's vibrant camera almost on par on their flagship phones. If only Samsung maintain or improve the A55's camera from A54 then you almost have 90% flagship parts at half of the price from their flagship phones. Plus, better and no over-heating Exynos processor and bigger battery capacity.
@@LeonLego it has improved the cameras from the a54 what are you talking about, do you even have an a55? + not all exynos chips overheat and have bad battery efficiency, what are you talking about
Recommended this to my mom as her first "new" phone (she had been using my old Redmit Note 7 (with an Android 14 custom ROM) till now). Amazing value as we got it for 300€. My brother is looking for a mid-ranger as well rn and I already recommended the A55 to him, too. I myself am rocking an S24U, but almost no one *needs* that much phone. I wanted the amazing camera tech, they wanted a good phone and decent cameras.
Buying this for my wife in Awesome Lilac for my wife as her first Samsung Phone she's coming from a Oneplus 10T what sold me was the SD card slot she insisted on keeping that if she could I am using a S series I usually buy 2-3 models behind I hate giving up my SD card because I'm storage insecure I will have to buy the 512gb models from now on
I must say i am impressed how far these A series phones have come. I had an A31 back in 2020, mainly bought it as a secondary phone and while it is pretty good when i tried to use it as my main phone for a few days i just couldn't. This is coming from an exynos galaxy S10 owner as my daily (well back then anyway) so while it was a good phone for your average moderate user it was just too slow for me. Almost everything else was great about it though except the main Camara. I noticed that the main lens had difficulty focusing on close-up objects. Something not present on the S10. Moving on 4 years later my daily is now a galaxy S20 5G. I recently found the A15 5G open box for 119$ and decided to get it as i needed a secondary phone anyway as i had given my A31 to my mother and my S10 had it's own issues. When i got the phone it was basically brand new. Not even the plastic on the frame has been removed. Literally 100% flawless and you could never tell that it was used it it wasn't for the open box. I must say i am quite happy with it. It's not perfect and it is missing some important features to me that Samsung intentionally seems to leave out on their budget phone Samsung sound assistant app When i tried to install the "Samsung sound assistant" application but the Galaxy store said that my phone was incompatible with it. I downloaded an APK and installed it that way and it worked flawlessly. Again a software limitation just because it's a budget line phone but why? The app is clearly fully compatible. It works just as well on this device as it does on my S20 and tab S9+ i really don't understand the need to say that it isn't compatible and prevent users from installing it. Otherwise the phone is a good deal for the price. Especially for what i got it for. Mine is the higher end model with 6 gigs of RAM and the experience is definitely much better than the A31 i had in 2020. Like if i had to I could 100% use this device (with a few limitations) but otherwise it is great. I was mainly impressed by now good and clear the screen on it is. Samsung's definitely heading in the right direction with these A series phones and I'm kinda impressed.
Just got this phone, moving from the s22 feels like a huge upgrade. While on paper the s22 has better performance, the a55 feels completely solid, is just as quick, best battery I've ever had on a phone too.
@@TechDaily the s22 had the snapdragon 8 gen 1 and exynos 2200 which were infamous for having thermal issues and battery efficiency issues, the s23 fe which has the same chipset as the s22 series had 50% lower SOT than the a55 and it gets hotter than the a55 too
@mikaela43523 Honestly my s22's battery was terrible and it would get so hot, it was very fast and performed well but the battery and heating issues were awful
@@chickhicks6208 yeah its pretty bad when it comes to battery and thermals and fun fact i bought a 256/8 gb a55 for 330 USD but i also got a galaxy watch fe for free with the phone and i sold that in pawn shop for 160 so its as if the phone only cost 170$ which is a steal of a deal
It's a great phone. I have always previously had the top S series, but opted for the A55 in July and it's fantastic. The battery life is another level.
I want to make a jump from S10 to A55. Looks like it has everything I would like in my next phone: a large capacity battery and capability of using a microSD card.
I moved to this from an aging S9+ i've had since 2018! I looked at S23's etc but just couldn't justify the cost, not for my type of usage. And I got it at something of a bargain price too. I almost went for a refurbed S23 but the expandable memory is something I use a lot so that pretty much sealed the deal for me. It's a great phone though I miss the curved edges of the S9+ screen! My old S9 still works fine but the screen has a crack and the battery has begun to fail. I wonder if my A55 will last as long?!
I still think buying a flagship from a year or two ago is the best way for me. It's crazy how much the price tanks after the hype. Heck you can get a new pixel 8 for half the price from last year With the longer software updates I plan on never buying a budget phone when I can buy a new flagship from last year for the same price
Yeah, thank Samsung & Google and other Android phone makers for that. They discount preorders, they discount through carriers, basically no one pays full price. And if you somehow do, you get boinked after a year when the phone is worth $200 lol
yeah its a great phone honestly for 95% or more people this phone is more than enough a lot of people will say "oh but its going to slow down a lot after a year or 2" i have an a51, a phone from december 2019 and it runs perfectly fine, its chipset gets 3x+ lower scores in benchmarks than the one on the a55 but its still decent i can feel its slower but nothing serious, people who claim this didnt even had a A5X phone themselves or had a defective model and now they think all A5X somethings are like that i feel like people just like to complain just for the sake of complaining and a lot of people are really biased as well "oh well you can buy an iphone 13 instead that phone has a way better camera and chipset!! a55 maybe only has a bit better battery" no it also has 120 hz, usb c, doesnt have a notch, 2 or 3x the ram, has a micro sd card slot, quite a lot longer lasting battery, better thermals, longer software support and so on but thats the thing people because of their bias will only exclusively look at the things that the phone that they like more does better i even saw comments such as "yeah s9 beats the a55 woo!!!" like what??? or "yeah a52s is better than a55" like genuinely stupid comments, they do this because THATS the phone that they have, they have an s8 therefore they will defend that phone same thing with the a52s "oh but it has a snapdragon" which means nothing since the exynos 1480 is better than the 778g and is more efficient and doesnt heat as much so yeah.............
i have an a53 since 2022 and this phone is a FUCKING BEAST. Since 2023 it bugs a lot and crashes after i turn it on for some reason but after it "warms up" it runs like new
The only reason I bought the S24 is also immediately the whole argument these days: acceptable size. There seem to be hardly any phones left which are not ridiculously large. As such, I would buy an otherwise terrible phone just to get acceptable size... Other than that, interestingly: the things that get advertised as nice, screen size and resolution, brightness, refresh rate, camera (ALL phone camera suck massively), Gorilla nonsense, etc. are all utterly unimportant. While the things the S24 dumps would actually be things I DO want to have: plastic frame (SO much better), expandable storage, phone jack. It's a strange market.
Nice review and reflection on the A*5 series phone. On this rwviw at first glance it sounda okay. The las 6 years I've been more invested in the A7* series phones. I'm still using an A70 and 2 A71 series phones and they are great. I think for me the A7* has always been the sweet spot of the better value over the A5* series. I think what I have have found lack luster after the A51 and A71 series is that a lot stayed the same beyond chip, camera's and RAM. What I have truly missed to benefit the end user is 1. The support of wireless charging, especially on the A7* series. It is not an expensive component to install and wouldn't impact the price too much. It is because of this I didn't think the price justified the value in later itterations. They tried to compensate it with improving water resitance and deprecating ports, but at that point for me the phones made less sense. Beacuse it didn't adress two.issue with regard to repairability which I find more valuable in mid to lower ra.ge phones. Especially any news on easy reoairability of broken screens end deprecated batteries that could easily be repaired with costing and arm and a leg, no repair damage of the phone after repair, and at least 5 years of software and security updates were higher on my value list. Anything Samsung built after the A5* and A7* series was the same formula, so okay. They decided to follow popular trends of water resistance and dust resistance, which the phones were to a degree acceptibly. But going to IP67 meant everything was glue tight, virtaully impossible to repair without some serious slill and equipemnt or an expensive repair. And in my view with ciuntless alter active options for phone accessory portofoons, all else being equal, I missed a repairable version so that it would go the distance. And together with software updates trickled down from the high end phones would give the phone and camera's a second life. That imstead of the cookie cutter disposable follow up phones. That is what made everything after the A71, beyomd a few camera and minor chip upgrades lackluster and not loose my money on less itterative value over time for small changes with little benefit when tou really look at the minor itterative updates over time. And the fact the A70 and A71 are still great phones today to me speaks volumes about what Samsung could have done differently to keep the market share amd user based invested limger over time. Instead they chose to flood the market with a gazillion phones every year, which soumded a bit wasteful. Even many iphone users stick longer to their phones because of the longterm software support. I think this aspect is undervalued at Samsung. They want profit from volume sales. But Samsung software is getting great actually.
The Exynos package is inferior, but as this video implies, the latest and greatest from Snapdragon needs to be revised for most people. My main issue is that the modem is vastly inferior to Qualcomm, leading to more heat and battery draw. The Gen-3 of the 4nm Exynos modem seems to have closed the gap, but I am unsure if that applies to the modem in this chip.
@@MLWJ1993 for some users, Exynos will suffice. But they are knowingly using a chip costing a third of the price of the much better SD8G3. If the pricing on Exynos S24 were reflective of the pricing of the chip, then we could talk about it, but they are not. If you are happy with inferior than good for you.
@@andyH_England I'm not talking high-end & neither is this video. High-end Exynos is not indicative of mid-range Exynos. Mid-range Exynos is SO MUCH BETTER BALANCED than the high-end Exynos that it's just silly to even try to equate them...
I bought this A55 a month ago from Woot (open box) for only $275 8/256gb, it was like new. Nothing was missing from the package, just a customer return. It has been amazing compared to the A35, which is not a bad device by any means but the extra 2gb of ram on the A55 really make a difference in UI performance 🎉 Edit: forgot to add that I received an update yesterday and Circle to search was added, animations feel smother and the August security update. Samsung has been nice when it comes to updates to midrange devices
You don't have to buy s series for 1000 dollars. You can get any s series at the price range you want, just not the latest and greatest and they still will dance on any A series phone
I bought an S20 (snapdragon) for 250$ last year. After using it for 1 year, I'm amazed to see how powerful SD 865 is till this day. This thing never lags. I can record 4k 60fps videos on the SD card. I'm more than happy with my 250$ s20.
@tawsikabdullah I bought the s22 ultra off someone a few months ago for 300 and traded it in for the s24 ultra , b4 that my note 10 plus and it's still a champ
Whats gonna happen is that the a55 will become the a36 next year and then there will hopefully be a new a56 with better specs hopefully i feel like if they could get the exynos 1680 in the a56 reach 1 million score in antutu benchmark it would be a great phone.

With AI coming to the A series, the S series will basically give you a higher setting for gaming and camera experience. Aside from that, you better off saving the money getting an a55. The small difference in time opening apps really makes little difference.
Bought this phone for my grandma last month and I am jealous. It's phenomenal, and in a lot of way it's better than the S20 FE I'm still using. Much better build quality, better screen, better battery life. Sure my S20 FE still has a stronger processor and better camera, but you know what it doesn't have? 7 years of software support, which the A55 has. Software support ended on my S20 FE ended back in 2022 smh. If my S20 FE wasn't still going strong, I'd go for the A55 in a heartbeat
@collinsnicky1202 After 2 weeks of using a55, it is way better than I expected. It's very smooth and not laggy while playing mobile games or using social media apps. But the battery seems a little bit off when using this for the very 1st week. The battery can easily be drained. From 100 to 80 for scrolling through socials. But I've seen some reviews that the phone itself is adjusting the way on how you use it. You can manage the battery in settings depending on what you prefer and adjustments. With or without case, I can feel the premium feels even though it is only a mid range device. My personal favorite in this device is that you can adjust the phone itself depending on how you use it for everyday living. You can personalize it, and the phone itself will adopt your routines. This is my personal review. But I hope this will help.
I remember back in the day, people in comment sections on tech sites wanted the Exynos Samsung variant over the Snapdragon. Granted, this was back with like the Galaxy S2 or S3 or something. The Snapdragon S3 was Qualcomm's first dual core Snapdragon chip and I remember it not being so good compared to others. People def wanted Exynos at the time. Once Qualcomm started using their custom cores (Krait, I think) in their dual core chips - Snapdragon S4, then they finally became desirable. Ahh, those were the wild west days of Android lol. It's funny how things have changed.
The biggest thing that is annoying me with samsung is how the one ui 7 leaks (especially the dynamic island and new icons) seems like they are going full force on trying to be bootleg apple. I left apple because i was tired of them and now samsungs trying to be apple
Apple is laughing all the way to the bank. They cracked the code. But it is going the other way around too Apple is trying to be like Android. We are getting the same type of product from different brands. Companies gave up innovating a long time ago.
@@animatronicgoofy N coming up with feature rich ios updates will be a problem. iPhones come with the tiniest spec upgrades. It is just a bunch of percentages thrown around as their marketing usp. They will not only lose their individuality but it will be harder to send the newest update to older iPhones. Also since I decided to give iPhone a shot their battery life becomes a problem later on with bug fix updates and ios updates. For android it is the opposite they come with a much higher battery capacity so the drop in battery life isn’t noticeable.
@Wilbur-em1hw I live in the US as well and I know when ios 18 comes out the oldest supported ios devices like the iPhone xs and iphone xr will probably face battery life problems because of the bad battery capacity and that the software has added so much more features
I live in the Central American country of Panama , where the average worker makes about $600 to $700 a MONTH, which is not even enough to cover the cost of a new Samsung flagship (which are more expensive here by about $200-$300 compared to the U.S.). Samsung does sell the a55 here, because it makes sense to do so but in the United States, it is assumed that people have more disposable income or at least have more credit
I am in Europe and I have gotten this phone via a carrier deal start this summer. Originally I was gonna wait out for next year to get a new phone and was heavily tempted by the - at the time not yet realised, but completely leaked - Pixel 9 Pro/Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but then the mic died on my old A7 I tried to fix it with gadgets to squish out an additional year or so, but no luck so I had to get a new phone quickly and given that outside of a Sony flagship with an outrangelously short update plan for the price, it is one of if not the best phone that still has SD support it was always my top consideration for a new phone, ever since it launched, I even like the name two (three) fives in it (though if I had waited to next year this would have likely shifted to the A56 provided it still has SD). And while I would have wanted bidirectional wireless charging this time around the possibility to have 1 TB of exchangeable storage for photos and videos and a decent software support plan was worth it and while I am not very hyped about this phone it was a good buy and will serve me for years (until its EOL and maybe even one or two years after that). Oh and it has Gemini and circle to search now, I can install ChatGPT if I want to so AI wise I am all set.
The song for the speaker test is spot on for the kind of music the people who play music on their phones in public transport use, that was funny. These days it is getting harder to justify the cost of the flagship phones now the mid-range has caught up in so many of the important aspects that you actually notice. Coming from someone who has always used Note or S-Ultra series devices, my current S21 Ultra is still all I need, but the mobile network antenna has died for no reason (and you can see its a fairly common issue listed on ebay 'for parts' phones), which is why I am looking at cheaper phones now, why buy a premium product if it will become a brick because of a design fault only a few years later.
@@varshniveralevel8347 nope, just a perfectionist, to the point that something like this annoys me a lot in daily use, but well the comment is a joke ofc
Feels like a missed opportunity to do a proper release in the US. Got this phone just a few weeks ago and it's really good. I'm not tech savvy when it comes to phones but seeing the ram and storage was a needed upgrade for me. Had a a10s which was heavily limited with 2gb ram with 32gb storage for a few years.
im kind of the tech person in my family so I bought my dad the s24 and my little sister the a55 5g. they are more or less the same phone minus wireless charging and ability on the s24 to use hotspot and wifi at the same time. My version of the a55 also doesn't have a secondary sim slot, just sim 1 and a microsd. however, with esim becoming more the norm now, its not something I consider a drawback
I use an S24 Ultra, but I can't deny that the prices of the S24 series are ridiculous. Samsung knows that their A series are the best sellers because they are cheaper and include some features that their flagships do not have. The reality is people are starting to shift their focus towards budget and midrange phones as value for money becomes more important. If Apple's rumored iPhone SE (4th generation) ends up being true, Samsung is going to have tough competition in the midrange market. They basically have two choices, either beef up the A50 series and make it available in the U.S., or lower the price of the FE.
Let's be real: Neither Samsungs or Apple's offerings are really at all competitive in the midrange market. In the US, you have the Oneplus 12R, elsewhere, you have the Realme GT 6T, Xiaomi 13T/Pro, Iqoo Z9 Turbo, Nothing 2a. Depending on if you need performance, camera, battery life or a mixture thereof, in most of the world, there are options. Many of which absolutely outclass either of the mainstream brands.
@Cantripping Absolutely. The only problem is that the alternative offerings are not selling as well due to either lack of availability or advertising. The OnePlus 12R is a great option in the U.S., but OnePlus not working with carriers is hurting them. They need to start selling their phones in AT&T, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular. If we look at the sales numbers, Samsung continues to dominate the midrange market globally, even though their offerings are not the best. As for Apple, the current iPhone SE is nowhere to be found on the 10 best selling smartphones list.
As somebody who came from an iPhone 13 to an A54, the only thing I missed from a flagship was the eSim capability. Otherwise, everything else works fine on the A54/55. I can even game intensively on it.
I agree. They need to sunset their other phones, especially the FE. If I want a flagship performance but on a budget, I would for last year’s flagship phone. Unless, significant discount is applied. 😂
Personaly I am currently using the highly underrated Galaxy S21 FE. It's a true flagship phone with flagship specs. In the 256GB version you get a Snapdragon 888 processor which is plenty powerful enough for even the most demanding of games, like Genshin Impact. The camera setup is also impressive. The battery easily lasts a day for normal everyday use and Samsung have promised major updates up to Android 16 which should take you through until late 2027. You can pick one up on the refurbished market for around $250. Comes highly recommended 👍😊
I've been an iPhone user for a bit more than a decade, but I got disillusioned on many things about such brand. I've been ding some research on what to get next as my last iPhone was dying. I decided to get an a55 over the S24 (and over other Android brands as well), and I was blown away on what I got for such a fraction of a price on an Apple mobile. Yeah it's not perfect, but it is so good on so many things. No way back now.
What people dont realize is that the a55 is basically a note 20 ultra with a flat screen, no stylus, no wireless charging, a little worse resolution and just newer
Great review! I agree and you have articulate the stuff been saying about Samsung and other phone manufacturer's s tricks! My wife still uses her A54 and I'm still using my Huawei P30 lite. Makes sense to grab A55 when we eventually "upgrade". Greetings and Cheers from South Africa!
I just got the circle to search update on my A55 which just makes this phone even better for its price. Samsung has really got to step up their game when it comes to the S series 😤.
Using a previous model with an Exynos chip (A54), the Exynos isn't a gaming powerhouse but was sufficient for my needs. Did not have problems with Mobile Legends, Fate Grand Order, Blue Archive. Was able to run Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail however given both these games are space hogs and better suited to a keyboard/mouse especially for Genshin, I just removed them. Rhythm Games work well as I tested this with Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage as well as the newer Idolmaster Shiny Colors - Song For You. If you really plan to game its best to just get a dedicated device for gaming (gaming phone, tablet, or even a Steamdeck) alongside this phone.
The only thing i do not like is the no headphone jack. But to be honest this would be great to be used as a on the go editing tablet. Especially if you get the 250 GB version of this phone. As I am going to do that with my recently bought Samsung Galaxy A15 and yesterday i have bought the Samsung AO5s with a 128 GB internal that I will use as my main phone as it can fit in two sim cards and on sd card internally all at the same time. Unfortunately the Samsung A15 is unable to do that which i thought it could. So i have decided to use it as more of an photography editing tool and i am putting a 500 GB sd card in it. Actually putting a 500 GB sd catd in both phones. I have also just discovered the Samsung A24 which has Three Card Slots like the Samsung A10 and Samsung A05S
still nowhere as good as s20fe from 4 years ago!! it doesn't has ip68, it doesn't have as much ppi, no wireless charging, no telephoto camera, no snapdragon processor..it's better to buy an s20FE which comes even at lower prize than A55 now

From the build (design) perspective, yes, it doesn't seem to be different than the S series. The real differences lie in areas where most people don't pay attention. Camera, lesser photo and video quality, still has macro lens for for mid-tier downward. Bezel, still thicker than that of the flagships, with bigger chin. Chipset and years of major updates are lesser than the flagships, etc. But I guess for common folks, those are not really a big deal. This phone can easily be a daily driver.
So Samsung deliberately made this phone near flagship spec for a mid range cost but doesn’t want you to buy it? So why would they care to develop and produce it??
Did you watch the video? Lmao they make it for international, they don't sell it in us and some regions where they want ppl to rack up money for the higher tier phones
@@sebastientumahai9560 well then this video doesn't matter to you. The whole point of the video is about Samsung making this phone so close to their flagship that they don't want US consumer to have it. They care to develop and produce it so they can reach international consumer that mainly buy in that mid range market but want US consumer to reach for the flagship.
An amazing thing I noticed in US was the readiness to hold debt. Not shipping mid-range phones in US makes sense because if a certain phone is out of the price range, the customer will just take credit card debt. Or some other installment plan. In other countries lack of mid-range phones would just lead to a drop in sales.
The exynos processor on this is great. Samsung finally nailed it with this one. It's not a perfect phone because the camera isn't great, but the performance is great on this. I don't think it performs that well in benchmark tests, but it never lags, never heats up, and great battery life.

Yea I gotta moto g stylus 5g 2024 for 200 dollars. Love it!
You can't really have rich people without poor people to take advantage of, as they say. Or something like that.
Americans are far from rich tbh. Most of us are middle to lower class living paycheck to paycheck.

I second this as I have a relative telling me that she would not notice a difference between carrying around an S23 and this phone.

Dude, even my S23 and S23 Ultra get a bit warm sometimes (especially during hotter days), so it's normal.

Great review btw!
no no no, don’t worry, you upgraded from the iPhone XR. Even the processing power is slightly better, which is the main fault of the A series Samsung phones! Plus the iPhone XR may not get anymore updates after next year, so..

I think so not..
Going from an Exynos M31 to an Exynos A54 the jump in performance is really great, so I'm more than confident that the A55 is gonna be a banger for anyone who buys it.
Amazing video as always Wade!
And the A56 is gala be a even bigger banger
I went from the S10 to Zflip 4 to the A55. And the A55 has been amazing till now. Its just perfect for my use case. The zflip 4 did not survive more than a year with my use case.
hi there! im an a55 user. i love it the processor is very fast and sometimes my battery lasts 2 days! i absolutely loved your vid. i did some benchmarks myself and i got the same score most of the time. once even a little higher! (3 points but still :))
Watching this on my A54… I was very hesitant at first because of the Exynos processor but turns out it's fine!
I bought a Galaxy A52 3 year ago, and it is still working perfectly fine.
Haven't had a mobile for 6 years and it has made me a happy person.
You are a wise person. I am trying to cut down on my phone time because man are we all addicted!
I'm still not going to be a Samsung guy because of the stinginess of theirs (separate adapter, no earphone jack - which is understandable for the IP67 but still) but overall this is one of the better options for anyone looking for a midrange
i was planning to buy the poco f6 pro or this samsung a55 lilac color as a gamer but kinda camera person what would you recommend between the two
@@yuririi1920 if You're leaning for Hardcore gaming, 120fps competitive games at max graphics, I'd say go for F6 pro.
TLDR:
Want to game more? F6Pro.
Everything else? A55

Had my A70 from 2019. Tried an Honor phone last January but sold it within 6 months and bought the A55. Build quality is great and I do miss One UI.
Anyone else bored to death by marginal differences in products?
Ridiculously tired of it

Exynos will always be marginal.
i been using it since release, replaceing from my old a70 it is great midrange phone, i glad buying it,
good battery, screen, decent camera on the class, premium like, what else you wanted at the price point, good phone
The only reason why I'll prolly choose a flagship Samsung over an A-series is because of the cameras only lmao but everything else, I dont really mind since it's not that far off from the higher end devices.
The camera on A55 is seriously good the video quality is just as great
depends which flagship S series phone
the a55 has an objectively better camera than the one on s10+ as an example and a more powerful chipset, sure it is a 2019 phone but thats the thing, eventually A series phones will overtake the older flagships, even compared to the s20 i would still pick an a55 over an s20 or even an s21
for me it only begins with the s22 series where id pick an s22 over the a55 but again even that phone has its own issues which the a55 doesnt have, battery and thermals being the most notable ones due to it having the infamous snapdragon 8 gen 1/exynos 2200 which are both pretty bad when it comes to the battery life and thermals
@@mikaela43523true
You know the A54's vibrant camera almost on par on their flagship phones. If only Samsung maintain or improve the A55's camera from A54 then you almost have 90% flagship parts at half of the price from their flagship phones.
It's not perfect and it is missing some important features to me that Samsung intentionally seems to leave out on their budget phone Samsung sound assistant app
When i tried to install the "Samsung sound assistant" application but the Galaxy store said that my phone was incompatible with it.
Glad you’re liking it! I think the S22 -> A55 switch is perfectly fine. New phone, bigger display, bigger battery 🤷
@@TechDaily the s22 had the snapdragon 8 gen 1 and exynos 2200 which were infamous for having thermal issues and battery efficiency issues, the s23 fe which has the same chipset as the s22 series had 50% lower SOT than the a55
and it gets hotter than the a55 too

Really ???? Damn
It's a great phone. I have always previously had the top S series, but opted for the A55 in July and it's fantastic. The battery life is another level.
I want to make a jump from S10 to A55. Looks like it has everything I would like in my next phone: a large capacity battery and capability of using a microSD card.
This was my plan too. But it's not possible for a someone on Verizon's network.

With the longer software updates I plan on never buying a budget phone when I can buy a new flagship from last year for the same price

honestly for 95% or more people this phone is more than enough
a lot of people will say "oh but its going to slow down a lot after a year or 2" i have an a51, a phone from december 2019 and it runs perfectly fine, its chipset gets 3x+ lower scores in benchmarks than the one on the a55 but its still decent i can feel its slower but nothing serious, people who claim this didnt even had a A5X phone themselves or had a defective model and now they think all A5X somethings are like that
i feel like people just like to complain just for the sake of complaining and a lot of people are really biased as well "oh well you can buy an iphone 13 instead that phone has a way better camera and chipset!! a55 maybe only has a bit better battery" no it also has 120 hz, usb c, doesnt have a notch, 2 or 3x the ram, has a micro sd card slot, quite a lot longer lasting battery, better thermals, longer software support and so on
but thats the thing
people because of their bias will only exclusively look at the things that the phone that they like more does better
i even saw comments such as "yeah s9 beats the a55 woo!!!" like what??? or "yeah a52s is better than a55" like genuinely stupid comments, they do this because THATS the phone that they have, they have an s8 therefore they will defend that phone same thing with the a52s
"oh but it has a snapdragon" which means nothing since the exynos 1480 is better than the 778g and is more efficient and doesnt heat as much so yeah.............
i have an a53 since 2022 and this phone is a FUCKING BEAST. Since 2023 it bugs a lot and crashes after i turn it on for some reason but after it "warms up" it runs like new
@@Bernardoskau glad to hear
No such issues on my end. With moderate use I can get about 2 days of usage on 1 charge.

Apple is laughing all the way to the bank. They cracked the code. But it is going the other way around too Apple is trying to be like Android. We are getting the same type of product from different brands. Companies gave up innovating a long time ago.
@Wilbur-em1hw very true ios 18 is like the android update for ios and very true that they have stopped innovating
About 11:50 , I just got circle to search from an update in my A55 last night, sooo
Can you give the Wallpaper link?
The song for the speaker test is spot on for the kind of music the people who play music on their phones in public transport use, that was funny. These days it is getting harder to justify the cost of the flagship phones now the mid-range has caught up in so many of the important aspects that you actually notice. Coming from someone who has always used Note or S-Ultra series devices, my current S21 Ultra is still all I need, but the mobile network antenna has died for no reason (and you can see its a fairly common issue listed on ebay 'for parts' phones), which is why I am looking at cheaper phones now, why buy a premium product if it will become a brick because of a design fault only a few years later.

im kind of the tech person in my family so I bought my dad the s24 and my little sister the a55 5g. they are more or less the same phone minus wireless charging and ability on the s24 to use hotspot and wifi at the same time.
Both a54 and a55 support eSim
@@NissanSkylineR32GTR no they don't. I have it and it doesn't support esim.
I agree. They need to sunset their other phones, especially the FE. If I want a flagship performance but on a budget, I would for last year’s flagship phone. Unless, significant discount is applied. 😂
Except Samsung didn’t get the memo and the S24 FE is about to be launched lol
Watching on it rn , battery and display is all good and amazing in every aspect in the budget line , or I should say the a series
This tier of smartphone used to be the flagship.
The price pf new high end phones is completely irrational.

Lol I thought I was the only one who caught that lol

I've been an iPhone user for a bit more than a decade, but I got disillusioned on many things about such brand. I've been ding some research on what to get next as my last iPhone was dying. I decided to get an a55 over the S24 (and over other Android brands as well), and I was blown away on what I got for such a fraction of a price on an Apple mobile. Yeah it's not perfect, but it is so good on so many things. No way back now.
What people dont realize is that the a55 is basically a note 20 ultra with a flat screen, no stylus, no wireless charging, a little worse resolution and just newer
So its nothing like a note 20 ultra
No Dex, No telephoto😢
It will get Ai soon though @@AhmadFirdausKZ
@@AhmadFirdausKZ it has ai features???
@@AhmadFirdausKZ note doesn't have a.i . A55 does have ai
A54 and A34 , A35 have it also .
The fact that this phone didn't come to the U.S. is criminal 😤

I have also just discovered the Samsung A24 which has Three Card Slots like the Samsung A10 and Samsung A05S
still nowhere as good as s20fe from 4 years ago!! it doesn't has ip68, it doesn't have as much ppi, no wireless charging, no telephoto camera, no snapdragon processor..it's better to buy an s20FE which comes even at lower prize than A55 now
True but no softwares updates,s21 fe is a better option, for just 100 dollars more, and still cheaper than the a55😅
@@bernaldclarinda6792true if you don't bother using another device for your storage needs once you reach 128/256GB in s21 or higher s series phones..currently I have 1128GB(1TB SD Card + 128GB internal storage) storage in my s20FE !! could use the storage back up for years to come
@@bernaldclarinda6792True, but it will have less software updates and lower battery performance
@@Natsukashii1111 when did I mention the United States ? I don’t even live in the US
@@sebastientumahai9560 well then this video doesn't matter to you.
