Alright so it seems I've upset some people with this video. This was not my intention. I just thought my theory provided an interesting connection from the world of God of War to the Bible. A lot of the misinterpretation stems from my "Christian mythology" comment. I can understand how Christians would be upset with calling their religion a myth. "Mythology" is just how I refer to all religions. But from now on, to avoid any future misunderstandings, I will avoid using "myth" and refer to them as "beliefs" or "religions" instead. I hope this cleared up any misunderstandings 👍

The history of mythology started with Kush the grandson of Noah. Kushs son is Ninrod who built the tower of babel.
As a Catholic I would love to see Christianity shown in the GOW universe. Dante’s Inferno is a great example of a game that uses Christian mythology in an awesome way
Now, that's an interesting Title. & I always wondered about the identity of the "three wise men" from GOW2. & since that leviathan supposed to be equal to mjolnir, i can imagine stuff like that behind its name. Especially that Jörmungandr is Thor's deadiest Enemy... Makes much more sense now! D4MN, they know what They're doing. Edit :- (I have an exam tomorrow, but I definitely can't ignore this lol) Thanks, Kap. 💯
As a Christian myself I think visiting Christianity would be interesting with the direction God of War is going in, people might be surprised on how much the current Kratos and Jesus would probably agree on. I completely get why the don't though. Maybe Jesus could advise Kratos on how to better connect with Atreus and how to be more altruistic
@@KaptainKuba And I thank you, even though I doubt they'll ever take the risk understandably, I think it's possible to incorporate it without offending Christians, in general at least. It's inevitable that some will always be offended, especially when it comes to matters of faith
Yes I’m a Christian to and I think you have respect for even doing this and not a lot of people do this and research about this stuff which makes me a fan and I love your videos
If I remember correctly Jesus left for a little while and came back as an adult who was more enlightened. What if at some point god of war visits another pantheon and runs into a stranger. Kratos or atreus maybe notices how out of place this stranger is and asks his intent or something and the stranger (being jesus) says he goes by many names by many men and gives some sort of advice about different paths all leading to the same goal or something enlightening or a direct quote of something Jesus says in the Bible and when atreus or Kratos walk away, they look back and he (jesus) is just gone. Just a nice little Easter egg cameo that isn't high risk.
As someone who is a Christ follower, I am not opposed to modern belief systems being incorporated into the franchise. I do believe that they should be handled with care. Not only to avoid offending others. But also for people like me. I love this franchise. Angry kratos was someone I felt I related to growing up. I had a lot of anger problems. Being able to get out all my aggression through the games was great. As I’ve grown older(27 now) I relate with older kratos. Someone who seeks the wise path. Someone who thinks before he acts. Someone who tries to teach discipline and patience. As these are some of the main attributes of Jesus, I would hate to see them fight one another. I feel the same about other modern belief systems as well. Put them in. But allow them to show the accepting and loving nature of belief in a higher power. Thanks for your videos cap.
I have this theory that I’ve been thinking about for a while, what if when Kratos and Atreus go to alfheim and Atreus hears voices, he is hearing the voices of his future. And let’s assume in his future he travels to the past someway or another. This would explain why he hears his mothers voice, maybe in the future he talks to her. when he says he is hearing angry voices, that may be is him and Kratos fighting one of the gods maybe Thor. I don’t know I just thought that part of the game was very interesting and not explained.
I'm an Active Christian (Mormon to be specific), and I would absolutely love to see a GoW game with the Abrahamic God I think it would be interesting if, instead of the Trinity, it manifested in different beliefs about him, like gods in the Discwold Series (because, for believing in the same God, there are so many disagreements just within Christianity). It could explore the multiplicity of beliefs from a singular source (and that's not even getting into the Prophets, Saints, and Angels we could have as enemies)
I would love Christianity to appear in god of war, but not kratos killing everybody like he did in greece, but him finally finding peace. Im an Orthodox Christian and i would love seeing it.
I disagree to to this. Unless Kratos acknowledges Jesus is greater than him that can lead to public disclaimers and also religious controversy. Marvel and DC was Forced to stop publishing Solo comics about Jesus way after the 90s.
@@christianhenry4173 Im aware of that, thats why i said i would love to see it, not that it should happen. If it were to happen there would be dozens of conflicts concerning that
I'm a Anglican Christian (Church of England) but I would really like to see jesus in god of war not as a boss fight ( that would be very daft) but as someone who teaches peace and understanding to the other gods and to convince them to end their violent ways.
Leviathan in the bible is used as a synonym for the devil/satan. (Edit: also it means sea creature or gets depicted as one.) Now i dont think that jormungandr is satan. Instead in the god of war lore leviathan is a TYPE of being. Not just one being. So in other words jormungandr is A leviathan being. In that case more leviathan beings do or did exist. i dont think they will bring to much modern religions into the game to make sure they dont offend a large group of people. But using names or one or two characters i guess is not such big a deal
Cory and the gang usually twist the stories in myths for their own games. I know that Kratos or Loki killing Jesus and everything WILL be a controversy, but I will always refer to the "How God of War Should Have Ended", where Kratos is just cool with God (Morgan Freeman)
I think that Jesus will be Kratos ultimate Salvation, IMO He is above all universes and beyond time, space and death. So He Is Life, Way and Truth after all. BTW, i think in the future GoW games we will see God's Angels, Michael, Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel, they all are above GoW universe "Gods".
the sisters were beyond time, theres gods with attacks of infinite speed.Yet They still died like cannon fodder. All the gods seemed weaker cuz of gameplay reasons. Same downscale will hapen if they decide to put those guys in game...
They are not gods. The origin term gods meaning fallen Angeles elohim translated from Greek from Hebrew. The original fallen angels are in genesis and they are also in revelation when hell portal is open for destruction of the mark of the beast. Mathew chapter 24 tells you Earth will be very dark when Jesus returns
@@christianhenry4173 Yeah, i know that. Fallen Angels represent them as "Gods", and they made Nephilim giants sleeping with women from the Earth. That was the reason why Elohim release flood on Earth. But truth is hard to light up in games and media considering we living in Satanic World...
You said it would be interesting to see a trinity in the game. Odin is also often portrayed as a trinity. Namely as the high one, the as high one and the third.
Another thing I forgot to mix in is that spartans were descendants of Abraham, isaac and Jacob. It's in the bible the records between the jews and the spartans acknowledging there Kingwood. So through kratos mother he would have a connection to that pantheon. I really hope we can see this happen one day, I have so many ideas for how they could set this up and script it. It would even be amazing if this entire time the God of the hebrews has been using kratos and his son to destroy the others. Please make another video on how you think it could be done.
@@shelumielisrael887 I imagine there’d be some controversy but Dante’s Inferno did it years ago. Might have affected sales but I think people are becoming less fanatical overtime. I’d understand if SantaMonica stays away from this idea but damn it would be cool.
Kap, I posted this topic on a PlayStation group on FB a lot of people were mad and angry about it I was in shock and I had to remove the post. I was born and raised as a Christian but now I'm 22 I'm questioning my religion every day I don't even attend church services anymore. May the higher existence guides me. Anyway, Nice Video!
Hey man! Thanks for your comment. Whether you come out of religion or not doesn't matter. I'm just glad you're someone who's open to thinking about these topics more deeply. Without screaming at people that might disagree with you 👍
Imho just toy with the idea with a sense of respect and mystery. Maybe have Kratos meet Jesus and have both of them discuss ideologies on things like fate, curses, burdens, hope, family, destiny, etc and I think that would be very interesting thing for both believers and non-believers. I can see this happening probably if Kratos ends up in Egypt fighting the Ennead and he stumbles upon the Holy Family staying in Egypt after fleeing from Herod until it was safe to return. This would mean Kratos would be talking to an adolescent 13 y/o Jesus but still this approach seems pretty natural timewise. And also have the interaction be mysterious in typical GOW fashion and leave the player to question who Kratos really talked to. Don’t drop names but give some clues as to who he is like perhaps something to indicate that Jesus was raised in a Jewish household, have some carpentry tools and works laying around, and have the dialogue with Jesus Himself be a bit mysterious but laced with clues as to who he is.
Also, I imagine Lucifer psychologically torturing Kratos with his past. “No matter how far you run, No matter how much of the past you kill, You cannot escape your destiny. The one thing you will be remembered for after your long gone. You know what you are…Ghost of Sparta.”
They also meantion “Leviathan” in Pirates of the Caribbean Dead man chest at the moment Captain Jack Sparrow talks to Bootstrap Bill Turner at the beginning of the movie. Bill Turner used “Leviathan” to discribe “The Kraken” as the line is: Jones his terrible Leviathan will find you… It aint much but It gives you/us an other look at the word itself.
correction: the one in Isaiah 27 (kjb) is called leviathan the piercing serpent and second is called leviathan the crooked serpent, that beast in the sea is called leviathan the dragon king from job 41.
I think a Christianity angle could go through, Bayonetta's whole first game was about killing angels and fighting god. I think SMS could have a very fun take on it and it not be so scandalous.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Adhi sesha the multi headed snake diety/king who acts as an abode for the god Vishnu in the ocean of milk, right? Vishnu is part of the trimurthi along with Shiva and Brahma, each representing different phases of the world. Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver and in some other sources I heard he is the god-head who dreams of this reality but i heard the same about Brahma as well and lastly the Great Shiva, the destroyer who brings about the end of this kalpa. I heard that there are numerous different interpretations of these gods and the whole Hindu religion so it's kinda difficult to know which is true and which is false.
@@Gopinath-tw7xb fascinating. I am currently writing a comic book story which deals with magic, demons, gods and stuff like that. I am planning to implement every well known or unique God there is in this universe and the Hindu trimurthi is one of the top gods who controls different aspects of the universe that are space (Vishnu), matter (Brahma)and time (Shiva). They are the ones that make the whole omniverse in my story. So I need to learn a lot about these stuffs. When I ask my Hindu friends and read stories, each of them tell different stories so it gets a bit confusing like how the great Ganesha lost one of his horns. Some told that he lost it in a fight with Parashuram and others told me he broke it of in order to write I don't remember the sacred book's name at the moment but you get the point. I don't want to disrespect anyone's beliefs and I want to stay as true to the source as possible. I won't depower these grand gods nor will I add my own twists in their history. I am trying my best to not sway their behaviors to construct characters but I guess I have to learn a lot more to do that as perfectly as possible.
A couple interesting notes on Jormungandr: 1.) Kuba pointed out that one of the definitions of "leviathan" he found basically meant a big monster. Fun fact, "Jormungandr" almost literally translates to "big monster" in Old Norse, according to Dr. Jackson Crawford! Maybe not an earth-shattering revelation, but I find that funny. 2.) Given that the Leviathan Axe becomes "eitr-imbued" when the big worm spits it out, and "eitr" refers to Jormungandr's venom, it's entirely possible that _that_ is how Thor will die, with the venomous axe rather than Jormungandr killing him directly, meaning the Midgard-serpent could very easily avoid its fate at Ragnarok and travel the oceans of the world. Aside from that, I've been wondering if the series has or ever will make reference to _Beowulf_. It has a lot of things in common with Norse poetry (such as alliterative verse and it having been written in Old English, a sister language to Old Norse, plus some narrative elements as well), but our only extant manuscript is fairly late, having been written well after the Christianization of England. So, essentially the Christian elements found are baked into the text rather than slapped on, such as Grendel and his mother being descendants of the Biblical Cain and the giant sword used to decapitate them originating before the Biblical Flood (presumably during the time of the Watchers and their children the giants/Nephilim). Additionally, the sword is called in the text _sweord eotenisc_, "sword of giants," and _eoten_ sounds very much like _jotunn_, the Old Norse word often translated as Giants. I just find it a neat and organic way to at least allude to Abrahamic mythology's existence in this universe.
6:08 but like, not only is leviathan a girl, she’s also quite literally the size of an ant compared to jormungandr. leviathan is contained within meditation sea which is sandwiched between two continents. meanwhile jormungandr is so big he wraps around the whole planet. also sometimes leviathan is a sea dragon instead of a serpent.
Idk even know how they would even allow us to fight God himself cuz in the Bible, it says hes all powerful, he can do whatever he wants. He could make a kratos’s a frog that spoke Russian for all I know. So fighting God might not be that good of an idea from a gameplay perspective. But it would be cool to see God in the story somehow. Maybe Kratos’s and God could team up to fight someone or something
Norse mythology was altered some by Christianity like how they changed Thor to be blonde and Blauder to be more like Jesus and how he comes back after Ragnrok when Ragnarok is suppose to be the be all end all instead of resetting the world
Even if you say Christian mythology Christian’s go crazy and say it isn’t a mythology when it is i doubt they’d be happy about a game about killing christian creatures although I think it would be cool fighting lucifer and the 3 horse men
I know this is off topic and bringing up an already talked to death thing. But you know the mural: it seems to be in wrong place. The rest of the mural goes, from left to right, present to past. And the mural under the curtain is on the furthest right, after (well before technically) making it before the story. This is just a point of trivia that I haven't seen discussed. Im curious to see what other people make of this.
Not linked to this topic but I've just finished gow2018 again and at the end when walking through all the status of the giants before the grand reveal, arteus mentions a "guardian" and just wondered if anyone's every looked into it
I've read it long ago, but if i remember correctly, a sea creature called Leviathan appears in book of Jonah, so that would probably be the connection between Jorm and Leviathan
What a theory! crazy wild! I suppose that if this approach is true it could be a paradoxical parallel being, let us remember that the midgard serpent, being an Ouroboros, is a pilgrim of time and perhaps it was not the only one! (Apep, the rainbow serpent, Tiamat, Nu kua, among others) I love how they develop mythological interactions! You could also explore the beginnings of Christianity from the Phoenicians, Canaanites, Zoroastrianism and more! I think that we could face Yahweh himself or rather his counterpart, something like a super ego of the id of the same divine ego. A fragmented trinity in metamorphosis to the astral plane....It would not be like killing the Abrahamic god, but rather restoring what was broken, returning it to itself..
Before I die, I want to see Kratos/ Jesus dialogue It can go two ways. Either kratos sees him as a father figure or it can go terribly wrong because these two are strong on their own ideologies but I think Kratos won’t fight because to be honest, while I also don’t believe, I think that Jesus is just extremely powerful
I highly suggest you read revelation. Jesus is far from pretty in the end. The Bible tells you he will kill everyone of his enemies with words he speak that pierce like a sword. Jesus is far from what religion depicted him, he was very serious about destruction which is the real ragnorak to come.
@@christianhenry4173 mmm- that’s those who oppose him. You have to understand that Jesus’s “enemies”, are those who disagree with everything positive and negative. They disagree with absolutely everything. They disagree with creation as a whole and don’t want to exist in it. Jesus is simply giving them what they want. Rejecting that Jesus is the Lord is synonymous with rejecting creation and everything in it. God is not the type of king that’s a tyrant. Those who oppose him are allowed a second chance. The Bible even says that Jesus went to Hell by choice to give everyone there a chance at redemption. Hell is not how it’s depicted normally. People don’t go there for being insane, for murdering, raping. They go there when they reject God as the creator and Jesus(who is God but with a human body) as the Lord. So not only does it take the worst thing one can do to be sent to Hell, but after you get sent to Hell, Jesus will give you another chance. So yes, Jesus is as loving as everyone says he is, stories taken out of context will make it seem like he’s secretly a vicious warlord. Only after you reject Jesus the 2nd time, is when you’re kicked out of his Kingdom. The Kingdom is Creation. That includes everything, Heaven, the Universe, Hell, all of it. Hell is a part of God’s creation. Rejecting God means rejecting the Kingdom and by doing so, you enter a state of non existence. I’m not in a religion. I was not told HOW to read the Bible. This is what the entire thing says. Lucifer went to Hell for rejecting God. It’s not because Lucifer rebelled, it’s because he rejected God. The fact that Lucifer was sent to Hell and became the adversary, Satan, means that God wanted Satan to be redeemed in the end. After the battle, the enemies will be destroyed… because *they won’t be enemies anymore, they’ll be allies.*
@@brandenmarcum430 that's not true from a near death experience hell is real. If a person don't have Jesus as lord and savior irs definitely not safe to live without him
@@christianhenry4173 I never said Hell wasn’t real, just that it’s gonna take a lot more than murder and rape and such to get you there. You only go to Hell after you reject Jesus Christ as the Lord, God, and don’t repent. Even then, you will have a second chance. This is Hell we are talking about. DC and Marvel would like to make it seem that it’s just a prison, but it’s much worse than that. It’s a prison you can’t escape from, ever, until your are forgiven by God. As long as you want to be forgiven, God will forgive you. It is his nature.

We don't know how Faye died unfortunately. The most popular fan theory is that she used all of her magic to mark the way for Kratos and Atreus and died. But I don't know about that lol
I think if someone translates the lyricks of the soundtrack in god of war ragnarok trailer we can get some new information about the new game likein gow 2018 ost
I'm watching these right after finishing Ragnarok...I don't think they risk controversary and touch any existing religion, just to avoid backlash..anyway growing up, I used to read 1001 Arabian Nights..Though, Jormungandr is not mentioned in those stories..but certain Giant Snake is mentioned, if I can recall..I think it was called 'Falak'. There are amazing mythological creature from Arab mythology..I mean we already saw a couple of them in Chains of Olympus, an Efreet and Basilisk (not quite sure but there similar creatures). There is a WereHyena (kind of like a Werewolf or Wulver), Aicha Kandicha (a Siren), Ghouls and of course Jinns...and wouldn't mind an Arab setting...or quite possibly, they'll make their way in an Egyptian setting..
I believe the texts you read of from the Bible is talking about revelations. In which the snake/ leviathan / dragon of the sea = satan will crumble before god.
Assassin’s Creed villainized the Catholic Church and I’m sure plenty of Christian’s still play it’s annual titles. I’d be surprised if GoW went in this direction but I’d also be very intrigued. Would that mean we would side with demons or maybe Kratos would be caught in the middle of heaven’s rebellion yet siding with no one. It could be really epic and an incredibly grandiose close for the series.
Hey kuba i have a question Do you think that angroboda could be faye? As we know kratos stepped into the light of alfheim and the light can give birth to other creatures from the souls of past ones. The ashes of faye were with kratos when he stepped into the light. So can the soul of faye turned into angroboda somehow?
There’s a psalm describing Leviathan has having multiple heads that God cut off. So Leviathan is also like the Greek Hydra. They’re all chaos serpents. This knowledge is what got me into the GoW games to begin with. I am Christian.
so I just started playing GOW 2018 for the 4th time and notice something this morning that I haven't heard anyone talk about after you defeat the black breath you get the puzzle with the stag once you get to the Statue itself atreus reads the runes on the statue basically saying the stag will watch the gate while the Giants sleep I think that's going to be very important in the next game that what we saw at the end of the game is an illusion and all the Giants are sleeping waiting to be awoken by the champion AKA Loki
By all means, keep your faiths. Keep your beliefs. But understand that these mediums are works of fiction. I was raised Catholic, seeing Kratos fight the Abrahamic God would be badass! and I'm not having a crisis if faith over it! because I can differentiate between mockery and works of fiction. and I don't take things too seriously, maybe that's the existentialist in me though.
If u don’t stand for anything then you’re nothing.i am a muslim and trust me if they do something like that they are gonna do more and in the future ur beliefs will just be a topic of “yeah theres nothing wrong with attacking religion” like i question ur own ideals if u want to see god be disrespected like that.
Well said my friend. Even though I'm an atheist I respect the contributions religious people have made through the years. People like Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Averroes and many more, were instrumental in building society as we know it today
@@Majdi_Amro literally was thinking that, as Muslim my self I wouldn’t want to play a game where the Abrahamic god is killed although it’s fiction it’s a huge step for any company.
For me I prefer to see pre islamic arabian mythology there are a lot of cool creatures to fight, the rok a gaint bird that can carry an elephant, the anqaa which is basically a phenix, the nasnas a half body demon, the ghoul a large sacary demon that eats corps and other types of ifrits + the bahamut it is a gaint fish kinda like jourmngandr carrying the world also hubal, aluza, allat and manat which is basically arab version of greek/roman gods
When i first heard the name "Leviathan Axe", I was intrigued and i wondered why a name from the Christian pantheon is bared by one of the greatest weapons in the GOW series. There are also stories about Yahweh having a fierce battle with Leviathan countless eons ago before the beginning of time. I would also like to point out that there are also all manners of terrifying creatures in the Christian pantheon and at the top of all those unthinkable monstrosities are the highest ranking angels (That is the Cherubim, Seraphim and Thrones). I did some research on them and all men who've had an encounter with them, almost lost their minds which would make me super excited for Kratos and Atreus to stumble upon the World of the Christians, for i would truly want Kratos to set ablaze everything and watch the heavens burn for i myself am an Atheist and disagree with the bible alot for many things it says don't make sense to anyone who hasn't been programmed to "Follow and not question the words of the bible". I would love to see you make a theory video about how the GOW series might play out if Kratos finds himself in the world of the Roman Catholic and clashes with Yahweh, because all the stories about Yahweh portray him as the most blood thirsty of all deities I've ever heard of and he has committed more genocides than the greatest tyrants in history.
[Rolled eyes in hesitance] in a large size-speaking: there is the leviathan, and behemoth that God had described in some few(?) of the chapters. in the appearance of snakes-speaking: and the *Enemy himself* . either Physically shapeshifted as a supernatural Snake to Fool off our 2 first mortal parents, or sometimes just Symbolic mostly due to *his* action: 'Crafty as a serpent' and all. or Both anyways (with the latter that I tried to describe being mostly the case throughout the Bible's scenes of *Satan* ).
Angels, Demons (LUCIFER!), Witches, Giants, The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Goliath, David, The Leviathan, Holy Knights... I mean, there's TONS of cool enemies to fight in Christianity.
You know what would be more interesting is indian mythology (Hinduism). Its one of the most fascinating mythology, but it's unfortunate that it will never happen due to the controversial nature of it
man a video on TH-cam on this subject will get so much people arguing in the comments imagine if Santa Monica studio actually make a game in current religions i don't think they can handle the back clash so there is no need to take about it in my opinion
@Kaptain Kuba why no video on gow being rated in Korea? It means its pretty much done.the Thor voice actor said he finished all his voice over.idk why u never covered this?
Though Santa Monica will probably not include Christianity, here is a possible avenue they could take if they decide to: maybe Jesus is a god from the higher plane of existence like Tyr. I do not really know what they would do with that, but I think it would fit Jesus’s nature of being a peaceful and selfless person who inspires altruism in mortals and gods.
About the thing with killing God, my father who is a big fan of god of war (and he is a christian) has stated it would be cool to have that setting and to kill God itself. So it will definitely be controversial, but i feel most people will be ok with it. But i could be totally wrong.
Dude if believers were as cool as you and your dad. Maybe we wouldn't have so many angry atheists lol I think the idea it could work too and hey it would make people read the Bible 😂😂
I’m not atheist but I still think it would be really cool to fight angels. And the locations would be crazy. Imagine what Christian hell would be like with a god of war spin
We could even see possible additional themes to this element. Satanael the Destroyer of false God's or Yaldabaoth/Demiurge The Flawed God (cough cough denomination that recons the First testament and Judaism). They have done that to avoid any trouble but the real drama would be Islamic vs Christian beliefs
So Christianity might be the higher realm of existence athena ascended to? It would be cool and the power of hope could also be connected to that realm :)

Especially that Jörmungandr is Thor's deadiest Enemy...
Makes much more sense now!

Thanks, bro!
This means a lot, really.
Thank you for understanding about my position. I appreciate people who are open to discuss ideas in a calm and reasonable manner
@@logangoldey4956 Dude, that is brilliant!
I don’t know I just thought that part of the game was very interesting and not explained.
kaptain may God bless you for using the theme song under this discussion when i hear it drives my sorrows away
I'm an Active Christian (Mormon to be specific), and I would absolutely love to see a GoW game with the Abrahamic God
I think it would be interesting if, instead of the Trinity, it manifested in different beliefs about him, like gods in the Discwold Series (because, for believing in the same God, there are so many disagreements just within Christianity). It could explore the multiplicity of beliefs from a singular source (and that's not even getting into the Prophets, Saints, and Angels we could have as enemies)
Mormons and Christians are separate. You're either Christian or Mormon.
No they simply shouldn’t put god in a game, this will slowly make him a joke

Don't worry too much about people getting upset with what you said man. Loved the video!
Fun fact: Leviathan was also the name given to the kraken final boss in GOW: Ascension
One of the best videos u made , love this channel
I'm a Anglican Christian (Church of England) but I would really like to see jesus in god of war not as a boss fight ( that would be very daft) but as someone who teaches peace and understanding to the other gods and to convince them to end their violent ways.
The intro for the start up video for the god of war theory is absolutely 🔥
Leviathan in the bible is used as a synonym for the devil/satan. (Edit: also it means sea creature or gets depicted as one.) Now i dont think that jormungandr is satan. Instead in the god of war lore leviathan is a TYPE of being. Not just one being. So in other words jormungandr is A leviathan being. In that case more leviathan beings do or did exist. i dont think they will bring to much modern religions into the game to make sure they dont offend a large group of people. But using names or one or two characters i guess is not such big a deal
This made me realize this cycle of fathers and sons
Uranus>Cronos>Zeus>Kratos>Atreus>Jormungandr>Tarrasque
He is a real sea creature too.
No leviathan is a literal sea serpent read job 41

That's an interesting take 👍
the sisters were beyond time, theres gods with attacks of infinite speed.Yet They still died like cannon fodder.
Fallen angels
You said it would be interesting to see a trinity in the game. Odin is also often portrayed as a trinity. Namely as the high one, the as high one and the third.
Yeahhh but that's belief mostly associated with Christianity
This is perfect link you're actually right
Pretty sure That clip is what added a big spark to my interest in the series, always been a big fan though

Kap, I posted this topic on a PlayStation group on FB a lot of people were mad and angry about it I was in shock and I had to remove the post.
Apothatic theology would be awesome for next GOW Game
Wow this title !

Kratos vs lucifer would be cool.

New intro is awesome sir
In hindu mythology there is also a large snake named adhisesha similar to jordmundgandr.
They both derive from the same original indo european myth. So they are kind of the same.
@@abyabraham6646yep bro some many stories and so many gods.
@@abyabraham6646 yes bro there is a lots of stories you can hear in Hindu mythology and in each stories with a different perspective and outcome.
A couple interesting notes on Jormungandr:
1.) Kuba pointed out that one of the definitions of "leviathan" he found basically meant a big monster.
The new intro is sick
I'm glad you liked it 😉
6:08 but like, not only is leviathan a girl, she’s also quite literally the size of an ant compared to jormungandr. leviathan is contained within meditation sea which is sandwiched between two continents. meanwhile jormungandr is so big he wraps around the whole planet. also sometimes leviathan is a sea dragon instead of a serpent.
Hey you now have an opening video. Nice!
If only I had a nickel everytime the dark elf death clip was played...
Maybe kratos can be the horseman of war.

And the mural under the curtain is on the furthest right, after (well before technically) making it before the story.
This is just a point of trivia that I haven't seen discussed.
Im curious to see what other people make of this.
It could happen that jormeganders body is so large that it covers through different pantheons and in greek mythology its termed as leviathan
Jormungandr: “There’s just one thing I don’t understand. My name in the Bible. The Hebrews called me…Leviathan?”
I don’t know who has more theory videos you or Matpat, Jesus man
I got a feeling the topic of this might give you a light spanking with the algorithm, which Is silly but good video kube
Before I die, I want to see Kratos/ Jesus dialogue
It can go two ways.

I love whenever someone make a mysterious God of war video they use the music from hades on God of war 3... It fits perfect so it makes sense
The deaths of the Greek gods in HoW 3 are very reminiscent of the 10 plagues of Egypt and the great flood.
In norse methology, one of loki's weapon name is Laevateinn so maybe they took for inspiration for axe name

Hey kuba i have a question
Do you think that angroboda could be faye? As we know kratos stepped into the light of alfheim and the light can give birth to other creatures from the souls of past ones. The ashes of faye were with kratos when he stepped into the light. So can the soul of faye turned into angroboda somehow?
There’s a psalm describing Leviathan has having multiple heads that God cut off. So Leviathan is also like the Greek Hydra. They’re all chaos serpents. This knowledge is what got me into the GoW games to begin with. I am Christian.
what happened to the other kratos when he went back and saved himself??? plot hole? never seen anyone really talk about it tbh
Kuba nice intro bro
so I just started playing GOW 2018 for the 4th time and notice something this morning that I haven't heard anyone talk about after you defeat the black breath you get the puzzle with the stag once you get to the Statue itself atreus reads the runes on the statue basically saying the stag will watch the gate while the Giants sleep I think that's going to be very important in the next game that what we saw at the end of the game is an illusion and all the Giants are sleeping waiting to be awoken by the champion AKA Loki

I am not a Christian, but seeing Christians liking this idea is concerning, or maybe not concerning since they barley take their religion seriously
I would love to see you make a theory video about how the GOW series might play out if Kratos finds himself in the world of the Roman Catholic and clashes with Yahweh, because all the stories about Yahweh portray him as the most blood thirsty of all deities I've ever heard of and he has committed more genocides than the greatest tyrants in history.

in a large size-speaking: there is the leviathan, and behemoth that God had described in some few(?) of the chapters.
in the appearance of snakes-speaking: and the *Enemy himself* . either Physically shapeshifted as a supernatural Snake to Fool off our 2 first mortal parents, or sometimes just Symbolic mostly due to *his* action: 'Crafty as a serpent' and all. or Both anyways (with the latter that I tried to describe being mostly the case throughout the Bible's scenes of *Satan* ).
Unrelated but i have a burning question:
If Kratos it cursed never to die by his own hand, what would happen if he crossed the bridge in helheim?
Remember kratos and Atreus crossed the bridge when they fought baldur and that's when they seen the visions of kratos fighting Zeus and all that

I’m not atheist but I still think it would be really cool to fight angels. And the locations would be crazy. Imagine what Christian hell would be like with a god of war spin
I dont care about gods that much , but as a hindu i would be interested as to how Santa Monica might implement hindu myth in GoW, who knows
Ayyyy you're one of the cool ones lol I would love to see how they implement Hindu myths as well
@@KaptainKuba yeah bro , lets see what santa monica has in store
Never knew "Abrahamic God" was an actual term, makes sense tho
We could even see possible additional themes to this element. Satanael the Destroyer of false God's or Yaldabaoth/Demiurge The Flawed God (cough cough denomination that recons the First testament and Judaism). They have done that to avoid any trouble but the real drama would be Islamic vs Christian beliefs
I'm so excited to see Christian mythology in God of War
So Christianity might be the higher realm of existence athena ascended to? It would be cool and the power of hope could also be connected to that realm :)
I personally think it's part of all the other mythologies like Greek and Norse
i hope they dont do that
@@LS-wy4bk 😂 yeah it's a little stupid
Perfect theory or whatever. Kuba, my old friend! Always loving your work! And hoping we could talk more together!
