Tap the line to finish (the same as you are doing with pushpull) before trying to type, and don't forget you have an onscreen keyboard available to pop up and type on. I do 80% of my work with a stylus and two button space mouse. I have the two toggle buttons on the pen set to right click and double click and the two buttons on the space mouse set to shift and ctrl. As you may have noticed in my gifs I keep a custom toolbar very close to where I'm working so I can change tools rapidly without thinking about the keyboard. I also use a resizable onscreen full keyboard when I want that I can shrink down and have close by. I also turn off the continue drawing option of the line tool, you very quickly get comfortable doing a tap to finish and a tap to start again rather than having to change tools or escape to release the line.
That was really helpful, I use a Surface (sometimes, I now have a desktop which does the bulk of the work) so now I know how to reconfigure the buttons. It'll be interesting to use the freeform line tool with that.
I have an ASUS ZenPad 3S 10 Tablet, a bluetooth keyboard and a stylus with no buttons. I will look at the Settings Menu to see if I can get some functionality out of SketchUp. I could possibly get a bluetooth mouse, if one exists or maybe a bluetooth stylus with buttons. I hope to get a chromebook in the future, so I have to figure this out. I don't like using my windows 8.1 PC, but may have to resort to that option. Still struggling with this SketchUp.
Thanks for sharing. I don't know if there is an option with the stylus that if you clicked a button it will start recognizing what you type on the screen. That would be very beneficial for entering dimensions instead of having the numeric keypad blocking part of the screen. By the way most of tablets respond to zooming and orbiting with fingers. Isn't that the same with SU on tablet?
about line drawing!!! let me give you an advice: you put start point, then you put end point, then you type dimention. Like you do with a push\pull tool
hey there, i find so useful your video but i was trying to set up my wacom intuos sp but i had some troubles with the pen. i can't set up the right click in the upper button
While we think that Wacom makes come great products, we are far from experts. We recommend reaching out directly to Wacom for support for their products!
Hi Jack. As far as I know, there should be nothing that prevents you form using any extension with a tablet as you would with a mouse. In fact, I don't know that there is any way for an extension to know what pointing device you are using!
Hey Aaron, I use my 3D mouse with AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks since at least 10 years now… Since BIM is more and more pushing up, I'm Looking for alternative ways to engeneer my work. So I'm very happy to see you going the same way, because most of People get stuck with the mouse. I do want to get in more in Sketch up, since I study interior design, and Need also a lot of presentation, you know something presentable :-) I also dove into the Wacom world, not quite sure if I could do that, since the mouse Wheel follows me the last 20 years like a quick Handy tool. Boy o Boy, so many new things, and defenitly new Options on the way… thank you for sharing your thoughts.
I just wished,3DConnexion, would jump off the horse and would support way more Features and Programms, such is 3D PAN and Zoom in any Software, also I see a big potential in gaming, but the support Always knocks me off the Surface... and gives me just lame answers…. the next Thing, I payed a lot of Money for my "old" SpaceExplorer with ran out of Software Support, why? doesnt it work like a Joystick for a Long time... Or does Logitech restrict that all quick by trying to anymate you to spend more Money?
As what a instructor in a CAD refresher class said about pen/digitizer vs. mouse, "Whatever you were trained on is 'Mother'...". Whatever you first used typically becomes your "go to" input device . I first learned on a pen/digitizer pad/keyboard decades ago, so, to me, using a mouse is like trying to draw with a bar of soap... This is NOT me, but I had similar experiences: www.tecnetinc.com/The%201980%27s%20-%203D%20CAD%20-%20The%20Beginning.html

Any timetable for SketchUp on ChromeOS or Android?
To solve your inconvenience you can try click it on its axis first an then type the length. Its the same.
Nice tips, thanks for sharing

Aaron, during your presentation of the tablet mode, can you still use any extensions as well instead of all native commands?
Hi Jack. As far as I know, there should be nothing that prevents you form using any extension with a tablet as you would with a mouse. In fact, I don't know that there is any way for an extension to know what pointing device you are using!
Even harder for left-handed..
Scroll is where ti set?

I use a Lexmark Trackball mouse: very interested in trying a 3D mouse though.
Yeah tablet just not config for cad drawings...shaper3d did a pretty good job at it so far
Nice Michigan T-Shirt!!
How to do this? sketchup in tablet
This is just SketchUp running on a Wacom Cintiq. If you have one, it will just work!
This tablet is running Windows as so many other tablets nowadays. So it works as if it was installed on PC.
Its more for drawing organic shapes and models

Too true! The best hardware solution is the one that works best for you!
Numeric keyboard
The tips you have shown are quit different for an iPad and apple pen.
That is correct! This is for a pen display or tablet connected to a computer. An iPad is an entirely different beast.
