Thanks Aaron. Lots of good tricks here not isolated to architectural modelly, like the Unglue (which has frustrated me many times), the priority of faces and the use of a transparent surface, grouping the line ad image and scaling the group with the tape measure tool and a section plane to hide the lower objects so they do not distract from the task. Excellent.
Wow! I'm new to this trying to model some house changes - this was really good and helpful. Especially the way you showed how to deal with the unexpected which is a real problem for a starter, thanks, Jim UK
To only view the second floor, instead of going through the effort of creating a new layer (and making sure everything is layered properly or on/off as needed) or creating a section plan, you could just HIDE the lower floor. I set my own commands for sketchup, so I have a 'hide' and an 'unhide' shortcut for my keyboard.
Instead of creating a whole new layer just for the bottom reference image or creating a section, isn't it easier to just hide it? I use the customized shortcuts of Ctrl+H for 'Hide' and Ctrl+Shitft+H for 'Unhide Last'. This really speeds up my workflow
Thanks Aaron , as a complete beginner at sketch up but 30 years of construction , its great to see all the techniques applied to drawing plans. have you got any more series coming out? thanks again,
Hello Aaron, One thought is to actually draw 2nd floor walls layer above the imported image and then group, select, copy and paste over the first floor.
Hey Aaron. Thanks for all the great tips the Architectural Modeling Series. I liked how you explained how to create both 2D & 3D visual options within components. This spurred two different questions that I have had. One came from your 2D & 3D door example, which is, can you make the arc line a hidden line (dotted) instead of solid. The second question is, how can I create column lines in my plans so that I can not only view them but use them as a constant reference in my model. Thanks, Mark
All right, next step: Roofs? Would like to know how to do both gables and hips integrated together. Also, I would suggest ordering the playlist in such way that it flows from the first video through the seventh one in sequence. Thanks!
My workflow would be : Group everything on first floor and assign that group to "First Floor" layer, then hide that layer while modeling second floor is much faster for me because i don't have to turn off/on another layer back and forth.
Hey Aaron. Again, this is such an awesome series. Many thanks to you for your efforts to put this together for everyone. I always come away with some valuable tidbit or three from every video you guys present. The "unglue" option was particularly valuable as I run into that all the time. Thank you, thank you! I would love to practice these techniques but don't have an image of a construction plan I can import. Is it possible for you to share your drawings? If so, I can provide my email address if you need it. Thanks again.
Great Job. I own a scaffolding company. What is the most efficient way to array a scaffolding bay (6'7" high x 10' long - already made as a component or group) around the exterior walls of the structure both horizontally and vertically? Given its 3 in the morning you can appreciate the need for an explanation....Thanks in advance.
Hey Aaron, without getting to complicated, how do you get rid of the second floor floor lines on the elevations.. hope you understand what I am asking....
Hey Arron, How do you upload your plans from FreeCad? Could you please make a video showing how this is possible. Thank you, Joe W/ Burton Restoration LLC

I really appreciate your calm approach to this and various tips you give us. Thanks!!
Cool! I didn't know you could scale a group by itself. Very handy to know. Thanks.

Unglue? OMG I never see that! Now I understand so many issues I had in the past when snapping wasn't working. Thank you.
Glad I could help! That’s a feature that not enough people know about!
Yes that made me crazy for a long time (years ago) until I accidentally discovered it.
Very nice video again Aaron. I usually go into x-ray mode to see through. Thanks for the unglue.
thanks Aaron for your work, this video looks simple but it is actually clever, many good small tricks make that one interesting again. cheers
That’s the goal! The goal is to trick you into learning more than you were expecting!
Very nicely explained! The Unglue solves a long standing problem with moving things!!!
Glad I could help!
These are really great and presented so well. Thank you Thank you!!

Wow! Excellent tutorial. Unglue??? never knew about that one! Nice work Aaron.
My pleasure, Duncan!

Awesome as always! Very valuable content. Cheers, Chris.
Thanks Chris!

Hello Aaron,

Sir , thanks . You have solved my problem of moving plan .

Where do I find the next video associated with this. Is there a video showing roof plan to this floor plan?
Thanks Aaron!
How to delete a line that seperate level 1 and level 2? It's pretty ugly too see the line showed up from the exterior view
A picture can be grouped along. Pro version 2018
All right, next step: Roofs? Would like to know how to do both gables and hips integrated together. Also, I would suggest ordering the playlist in such way that it flows from the first video through the seventh one in sequence. Thanks!
How would you insert in Layout floor area measurement? What is the best and fastest method?
How can I locate any previous videos in this series? Thanks.
Aaron, silly question....why would you not bring the floor plan file in as a scaled .dxf or .dwg file?
Great video!! And thanks for explaining the unglue feature :D
My workflow would be : Group everything on first floor and assign that group to "First Floor" layer, then hide that layer while modeling second floor is much faster for me because i don't have to turn off/on another layer back and forth.
Perfect! The best workflow is the one that works for you!
That was amazing tip, thanks!
Great tips! Thank you.
Awesome video, thank you!
Hi really likening this series Could you tell me where you got you floor plans from please
Thanks, Scott! The floor plans are from a model I drew up years ago. I pulled these two PDFs from LayOut just before I started filming.
Thanks for replying. Is there any chance you know anywhere what has floor plans to use as the ones on google don’t have the two floors
Yasu Leone thank you
how can i pencil continuously? aftter i make a line it ends there and because of that i cant make a new floor :((
Never knew Glueing was the reason some of the components were not moving properly. Thanks

Hello,
When you have a building with a ground floor and a first floor, do you block the ground floor?
Thanks.
Do you have any tutorials on archidcad ?
No... we don't... This is the SketchUp channel... so we generally stick to showing SketchUp.

This is the perfect kind of question to take over to our forum! Lots of smart, experienced people ready to help out at any hour of the day!
I'm curious about your camera controls. It doesn't look like you are using the orbit tool or if you are it works differently than mine.
I use a 3D mouse in my videos. A Spacemouse Enterprise for 3dconnexion, to be specific.
@@aarondietzen2995 thanks.
Hey Aaron, without getting to complicated, how do you get rid of the second floor floor lines on the elevations.. hope you understand what I am asking....
That frustrated me till no end...lol I use the hide option..but I'm sure you figured that out by now..haha..
Thank you bro I love it but bro I have a problem of my sketchup 2018 license
I am very new. Thanks a lot.
I wanna know what version he is using here. Can someone would care to share?
2018 (this video is 3 years old). You can see the version number of any version of SketchUp in the title bar at the top of the screen.
@@SketchUp oh.. My bad. Hehe but thankyou
Scale an image and not affecting the whole model, that I did not know. Thanks
Thank you! :-)
Does anyone know how he has his movement set up? He is rotating the camera while not using the orbit or pan tools...
Aaron uses a 3D mouse in many of his videos.
Any chance you would share those PDF files to be used in an educational context (SketchUp intro course at the University of Vermont)?
how to scale the real autocad into sketchup how?
👍

Oh, dude... Why didn't you do ladder between floors...
thanks you! Aaron Dietzen.

Thanks, Duane!
You are entirely welcome, of course!!! :-)
Unglue....Thankyou
Glad I could help get you un-stuck! Ha!
... sorry about that...
Axis, singular. Axes, plural.
Can I cover them both if I just say “ax-ees-us”? Because, once I get going there is no WAY I’m going to say either of those right!
