    I cannot imagine modeling without a 3D mouse. I bought my first 3D mouse within the first month of learning and using SketchUp.

    I have had a 3D Connection controller for years, Initially takes some getting used to.
    Honestly, I would not want to work without it. It's fantastic, If you can afford it it is worth every penny.
    Personally, I use the controller in my left hand and a Razer Mouse in my Right hand. It becomes very intuitive.

    Hey Aaron, yea once I saw you using one I was obsessed with it. I started out with the “Puck” and finally went with the “Enterprise” when I thought I could speed things up. I am still not as fast as I could be but the 3D mouse experience was worth every penny in my opinion. Yes it is not cheap but I would never go back to being without one. If anyone is on the fence I would say “Just do it!”. It will change your life.

    Nice quiet explanation, bravo. So very unlike some other Americans that are over the top and 'adhd-shouting' to their audience. So thank you.
    Two months ago I retired and I started learning SketchUp. During my work as an engineer I used CAD software (Autodesk Inventor) with a 3D mouse. At home I don't possess a 3D mouse, but my left hand constantly keeps uselessly moving to the left to grab it. Moving around with the 'normal' mouse is so inconvenient.
    I'll think I'll go and buy myself a 3D mouse when the Sketching will move Up!

    yeah I bought the big boy after seeing you used couple times, it is much easier to handle than the smaller one, simply the small one doesn't have enough anchor points to staple on the table.

    Generally agree with Aaron's assessment, however there are some painful issues using my 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse-Pro with SU-2021-Pro. Moving around the model space is smooth and predictable UNTIL using a few specific SU tools which cause it to go crazy. When I perform an effected task the 3Dmouse becomes hyper-hyper sensitive, careening wildly dozens of feet away from where I want the object to be moved. The hardware seems possessed by demons in these situations - close to unusable, wasting time and interrupting flow and concentration.
    Would like to know if Aaron has experienced any of the above symptoms and if so, what countermeasures does he employ ?
    This happens every time I use the 3Dmouse with certain SU tools and is extremely frustrating. Like Aaron my usual desktop is MacOS and on a fairly powerful system. The 3Dmouse has been predictably schizophrenic regardless of my OS version or the system hardware. Other apps the 3Dmouse works with are completely fine.... SU is utterly fine 90% of the time, but not with certain specific tools, then it is as if the 3Dmouse controller is on crack and all movements are amplified 100x until you exit the SU tool and everything is silky smooth again. Makes me consider abandoning the device, were it not for the 90% of tools that work great with the 3Dmouse.
    Potential 3Dmouse customers should also know: in the opinion of many users in forums, the developers of 3D SpaceMouse are not helpful toward the Mac or SU community, downright hostile in fact. They haven't updated MacOS drivers in any significant way for years. Support is condescending and abysmal when you can get them to answer questions or issues at all. The hardware itself is well regarded, the software drivers horrid. Short their stock.

    I don't yet have a 3d mouse but guess who's going to be in the purchasing department requesting one tomorrow? This guy. I appreciate your tutorials because I don't have any background in CAD ect but I'm a director level guy at a data center an I decided to model it up from the blueprints so I can show contractors / customers ect things in 3d vs blueprints. I really think for the price we paid our architect an engineering firms they should have done this for me, but it's a learning experience an I'm enjoying learning sketchup after years of wanting to but not having the motivation to do so.

    Hi I have a 3D mouse like you have, one thing that frustrates me is that the centre of rotation with the 3D mouse seems to jump around the place as you zoom in and out. Have you found any way to set the centre of rotation when using the 3D mouse. (In Catia for example you can right-click on a face and that becomes the centre of rotation). This kind of functionality seems to be built into the normal mouse rotation but not the 3D mouse) ??. By the way, I love your videos in general, keep up the good work.

    I love my two 3d mouse from 3DConnexion, just make to set up your mice properly, such as speed and zoom feature. By default they are to fast for my "taste". During the past year I also got the Cad Mouse Pro which is much better than my regular one, which has found the "round archive".

    got the puck wired version 6 months ago, and upgraded to mx master 3 mouse and keyboard as well per Aarons recommendations. All is pretty good and I'm getting more and more out of setup as time goes on. Could you do a vid on the other modes (helicopter, camera, etc) and settings of the 3d mouse with sketchup where they apply, what they are good for (nothing?) etc. Also more on your programming of the MX Master 3 and use of it in your workflows.

    • @kunalpakhar8860
      @kunalpakhar8860 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Matt it definitely helps to never get stuck behind objects and walls while zooming anywhere on or around the model. It’s worth the investment plus when you use real-time render in presentation time, it glides as if a real Walkthru is in effect.

      'Curic Zoom Through' will solve your problem, trust me. I was ready to give up and get a 3D mouse when I found out about this plugin. Keep it handy on your toolbar--you will occasionally have to toggle it off when you are zooming in very close. Justin at SketchUp Essentials did a nice TH-cam video a few months back. I may still invest in a 3D mouse, but the 'getting stuck in walls' issue will not be the reason.

    Hi Aaron have you had issues using the 3DConnexion mouse with Big Sur on Mac. The number of crashes I’m getting are really annoying.

    • @___.___.___.___.___.___.___
      @___.___.___.___.___.___.___ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had some issues: the controls for the spacemouse are in reverse in sketch up (I had to go and reverse them in the settings to get them the right way around), I’ve had the mouse stop working a couple of times (unplugging the dongle and plugging it back in gets it going again). In the other modelling software I use (archicad and rhino) the side buttons don’t work at all.
      You should report your problems to 3dconnexion, the more of us that make a noise the faster these problems will be sorted 🤞

      @@SketchUp Thank you for your response. I downloaded the latest drivers for SketchUp 2023 from the official website, but unfortunately, the new drivers are not compatible with my old gadget. And the old drivers do not work with the new 2023 program. Unfortunately, it's a vicious circle. I hope you are aware of this problem with the incompatibility of old hardware with new drivers. If you happen to know about a solution to this problem, I would be very grateful for your help. 😊

    Hi Aaron, seeing this video convinced me to get the 3DConnexion Enterprise (same as you use). It arrived today, and I got it up and running. This thing is totally awesome, and I can see why you use one. I’m running MacOS Big Sur, Sketchup 2021 version 21.1.331, on an iMac 27”, 2017 version with 40GB RAM. Because of Big Sur, I found I had to install the latest Beta version of the 3DConnexion drivers. However, after 2 or 3 minutes of use, the “cap” (joystick thingy) on the 3D mouse no longer responds. This is totally repeatable, but only in Sketchup. Is there something I need to install or set in Sketchup to get it working? Could you please tell us what your setup is, because you don’t appear to have any issues at all.

    • @vashistfood
      @vashistfood ปีที่แล้ว

      @mickhealey this is a known issue with the drivers, hopefully you have updated by now and found it resolved. The beta drivers were trying out a different input mechanism but they switched to the previously working method in the released drivers. Cheers !

    • @MickHealey
      @MickHealey ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vashistfood thank you for the comment. Yes, I did finally get it sorted, but it took a long time. At one point I considered sending the SpaceMouse back for a refund, on the advice of 3DConnexion. However, I waited in hope of a fix. Version 10.7.0 r3408 - RC1- published 13/Dec/2021 solved the problem. However it wasn't until March 30th 2022 that the official version 10.8.0 was released.
