- The latest version of the variable RPM espresso grinder is out from Turin. The DF64V Gen 2. We have received a handful of questions so we thought it would be a good idea to show you what changed and to do some side by side testing and comparison.

They look awesome!
This feels like a step backwards. The minimum burr speed at the finishing teeth of the gen 2 is 426mm/s and the gen 1 had a speed of 320 mm/s. The DF83V has a minimum burr speed of 207mm/s. The 64mm burrs would need a bit less than 400RPM in order to match the burr speed of the of the df83V, and actual burr speed is more important than RPM.
The 2-part chute made cleaning easy, a brush of the finger could clean it out.
This new chute requires a brush to get inside.
This gen2 seems just like a cost saving measure sacrificing performance. I'm curious to see if the motor is a lower wattage one, or if the RPM minimum was just to get people to not complain about stalling.
The DF83 you mention is not in this video. The grinder is essentially identical to the first but yet performs better. 1 piece chute works great. All I can say is can never please everyone. Flat burrs are not the same as conical. Flat burrs don't need to go as slow.
Hi! Great comparison. Can you now go without the bellows(using the palm instead), to keep the retention within 0.1gr for a dose of espresso I wonder? It seems like the plasma generator is doing a great.
Yes I just use the palm of my hand with Gen 1 and RDT. No retention ever, it's a breeze to use!
Can we get the gen 2 slow feed disk. Thanks. Great video bb
I believe you can get it as a retrofit part. My Gen 1 shipped with it stock.
