    One of my first automations was actually blinds control. Over time I have expanded it to a monster of an automation that takes input from temperature sensor inside, temperature, light intensity and wind speed from a weather station, sun position and even room occupancy to control blinds in 4 levels (open, half closed half tilted, fully closed tilted and completely closed). It works almost perfectly in every situation imaginable.

    My favourite is the one that turns on my coffee maker every morning and after the coffee is brewed turns it off. All automated based on the motion sensor upstairs(using the Envisalink integration) , a tasmotized Sonoff S31, a switchbot button pusher and a bluetooth proxy . Fine tuned with a couple input booleans for the morning routine and power consumption steps. All knowledge learned in the last year from the youtubers featured in this video , including this channel. Thank you for the great content .

I've finally finished evaluating all of the different HA solutions and have decided to make the move from ISY / Insteon to Home Assistant.     One of my newest automations that I love;
    I have automated internet speed tests so that I can track internet speeds (upload/download/ping) at any time in the day. But... I also like gaming, and when the automated speed test runs it can effect my ping.
    So, I have my PC report to my home assistant if I am playing a certain game, and then it skips the speed testing until I finish.

    • @tin2001
      @tin2001 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a rule for battery powered smart devices.... Nope.
      Actually, I'm OK with stuff that can last like 6-12 months and takes regularly available AA batteries. Also OK with stuff that runs on solar+battery outside where it's just not practical to run cables (such as the chook water and feed level monitor I'm slowly working on).

    • @ulrar
      @ulrar ปีที่แล้ว

      @tin2001 that's fair, the switchbot contact sensor hasn't driven me mad yet and it'll take regular rechargeable batteries so fine I guess.
      What I loathe is the hue dimmer switches, ikea motion sensors, aqara temp sensors and the like that take various kinds of flat CR batteries that no vendor will deliver here and don't last very long.
      Special mention for the hue switches that become less and less usable but keep reporting a full battery.

    Smart Home. Putting motion LED lights in every coat/shoe closet around the door. It lights up shoes under coats so you can see what is their. Though there isn’t a smart connected as it isn’t needed.
    I have GAS valves on my outdoor kitchen valve to turn it in and close. It alerts if someone turns it one manually or through a command. It also shuts off 2 hrs after being turned on. It also shuts off at 8pm and Midnight though these were before I got the countdown working.
    I have a Shelly on my light post that I can say blink light post if someone is looking for my house. It blinks for 5 minute and then returns to previous setting.

    1:55: my front door automation: a) if door (contact sensor) open, lock remains unlocked. b) if door closed, lock locks. c) if lock unlocked but door closed for more than three minutes, lock locks. This spares me ever closing the door while the lock is locked, and ensures that if someone unlocks the door but for some reason does not open it the door is quickly re-secured.

    Another great video, I got some great ideas for my morning routines, BTW I have few automations that you may like
    1) Keep the Switches on - I have few bulb outlets connected to the smart bulbs and my light automations go bananas every time my wife or daughter turns off the switches, I created an automation which will be triggered when the switches as turned off and it turns the switches back on, sends an announcement using the smart speaker of the room not to turn off the switches and turns of the lights after 15 seconds ( 15 seconds delay to ensure that the bulbs are connected to Wi-Fi)
    2) in-store shopping reminders using HA zones, this will send a reminder to other person( if i am at store notify my wife and vice versa) to update the shopping list
    3) turn off the lights and motion sensors in my home theater (Based on Denon AVR status) and turn lights and motion sensor on when the HT is turned off
    Wishing you and your family Merry Christmas and a happy and successful 2023, hoping to see more products and videos from your side

    I have a question, once you told me that for security/privacy I may create a vlan or use my smart home as local network, which I get it, but what I really want to knowz, if there is a way to use "Alexa" or building a voice helper similar to Alexa, that won't spy on my lifestyle or network or whatever 😂❤ thanks

    Hello Lewis , first, happy holydays, second, my favorite automation is when I am leaving my home and I get in my car, my phone is automatically connect to my car Bluetooth, after is connected, the gate is automatically opened. Also when I am coming back home, I have 2 zones defined on map, and when I enter in that zone and phone connected to car Bluetooth the gate is upended. This help me not waiting for the gate to open when I am back home. Thank you for your awesome videos.

    Hey Lewis, im personally wanting to replicate your morning announcment idea, with my own few twists, now that i have a speaker in my home. I was wondering what your code is for the annoucement itself, so i have a starting point.

    My first automation is outside venetian blinds with a shelly 2.5 and esphome. Open at sunrise and close at sunset. The automation will not fire if the down button on the wall is fully pressed in.
