My biggest concern would be the bump stop mounting location, they're no longer mounted on the frame. A few people have destroyed their shocks when maxxing out the suspension travel as the shock mounted bump stops are just not sufficient.
They actually use the same design in other off-road vehicles with no issues. I believe it was a supplier issue on the parts themselves that was used during assembly of the shock.
David, With such a renowned full-time 4WD system at their disposal, I cannot understand why only one trim of Tacoma gets this feature.🤔 With the new Tacoma, it seems that yet another TNGA redesign has a confoundingly undersized second row. Toyota's current design parameters for allotting occupant space are inexplicable. Did some committee come to the conclusion Americans and Canadians are getting smaller? Where did they get the data supporting this theory? 🤨 I won't question the price because the Trailhunter is a luxury purchase and half the appeal of luxury goods relates to the vast sums people have to pay to acquire them.🤑
The head engineer said he wanted to keep the overall length the same as the old Tacoma, so it will still fit in the garage. I wish they would make a 6.5' bed and a bigger rear cab, but then I have a long garage, so making it a foot or two longer is OK with me.
100% agree, it's the same with the 4Runner, although in that case I think its Toyota trying to push people to the Land Cruiser. If the aftermarket does its thing, I'm hoping for an add-on rear locker that you can install on a 4Runner Limited to get it very close in capability to an Off-Road model, but with superior on road and inclement weather performance.
Only reason they do not do full time 4wd system on the other models is strength. Full time setup isn't as strong and for people putting large tires and going through HD off-road situations they want them in the stronger setup. Straight from the head engineer.
Backseat was meant for kids and storage. Straight from the engineer most buyers and overlanders don't put people in the back. The crew cab is not designed with adults in mind. On purpose. To keep length of the truck at a minimum so they fit in old garage length parameters
@@TrailHunterAdventures makes sense but they do have it in the LC 250 and LC 300. They COULD do it but would likely catapult the 4Runner into higher cost bracket where they already vehicles. Really the dream would be a Land Cruiser GR Sport in North America.
So they put a "snorkel" on it (yeah, i know its a "fresh air intake"). Did they extend the rear diff breather up amd make it a 2way, so it doesn't suck sludge in through the seals when it hits water?
Like the Trailhunter, will get the 4Runner version. Want more power, fuel economy, tow haul mode, updated tech and the new interior. Not a fan of the price or intake noise either. We have the OME suspension on our 5th gen 4Runner and love the extra 3" height and space for 33" tires. We had to upgrade a lot on our old one. The new one has almost everything we need right from the factory.
Had two Jeep TJs, one base model 4 cyl and a 6 cyl Sport with a 2” lift, that were my daily drivers and offroaded on weekends and at Jeep Jamborees. Also owned 4Runners. Just bought a 2023 4Runner TRD OR but considered a Tacoma. Saw a Trailhunter at the dealer and IMO it’s over-content, over-priced, and impractical. I think it was designed by Toyota marketing, not Toyota engineering. I rarely saw a truck with a snorkel on the trail, and although I made a few stream crossings, streams are for fish, not trucks. The 6 ft bed makes for a very long truck not well suited for the city, and the cramped back seat means less secure dry, space for gear and passengers. If you think the turbo whine is bad, wait ‘til you hear the whine from the people in the back seat. The “triangular” plates in the bed may look cool but I wouldn’t use them since I’d buy a canopy to keep dust and rain off my gear. The suspension is great but the $85k MSRP is breathtaking, the quality marginal, and the durability unknown. Toyota should get back to value and durability, and remove unnecessary content and complexity that jacks up cost.
The squeaks and rattles are there because the Tacoma is assembled in TMM.. Mexico. But, TMC wasn't happy either when the Tacoma was made in TX. They are just not what they used to be.
I just bought the tacoma trail hunter in underground color in short bed with roof rack in united state it doesn't come with moon roof it's a torque beast at very low rpms I'm very happy with it except the price i paid 61,280 dollars
Nice! I’m looking to pick up a long bed pretty soon. That’s actually a great price. Where did you get yours from? I’m currently in Texas but moving to New York soon.
@AnthonyOrtiz247 i got mine at Vancouver toyota in Washington state state i got 3,000 dollars off i brought it December 3 2024 I'm very happy with it it's a torque beast full torque at only 1,700 rpms 475 foot pounds of torque it's 500 miles on it now
@@davidchenette1091 congratulations! I’ll be looking for the same deal. Yea that torque is going to make owning a Tacoma a whole different experience. My 3rd gen was terrible even after regearing. Looking forward to getting mine.
I’ll never purchase any vehicle assembled in Mexico. They are truly the worst and most unreliable vehicles to own. Toyota is already having transmission issues on the new Tacoma and now I’m hearing they’re going to move some Tundra production there? It’s a No for me.
People online keep complaining about the gas turbos.. meanwhile "turbo-diesel" is presented as cool, but when it's a lighter fuel all of a sudden it's a liability? BS. I want a jet engine in my truck. Oh no I have to change the oil less than every 10k miles? Get a bike lol. On another note, it'll be funny if someone comes up with a gun-suppressor-like mod for the air intake to make it quieter.
Trailhunter is the preferred model, but the price is prohibitive. I'll keep my 23 TRD Off Road for a few more years. Hope the new platform proves reliable and the prices moderate. I think that 25 is going to be a rough year for the automotive industry!
The real world fuel economy improvement over the V6 isn't all that impressive. 2mpg. Seems like the enormous development budget would have been better spent on updating the 3.5 and pairing it with this new 8 speed trans.
@ravensfootball52 CO2 emission reductions are the same thing as mpg improvements. The EPA tests slightly favor small turbo I4 engines over larger V powerplants. Real world the difference is smaller.
David, Jason Cammisa's recent show severely denied Toyota's attempt to use a 2.4T hybrid engine on the Land Cruiser 250, which hurt the reputation of the Land Cruiser. Will Toyota's behavior of trying to please extreme environmentalists change?
The new model is better , yes it i losing the v6, but the torque curve is way better than last gen. It has more power delivery, every reviewer on youtube liked it compared to 3rd gen. I think their is always need for improvement
Not a fan of the snorkel, wish that was an option. Not a big fan of the bronze colored grill/wheels. I like the black wheels more and the matt black compared to glossy black grill/fenders on pro. Also don't like the price. Probably.about 10-15k too much.
Not having a rear armrest after all this time in a Tacoma is criminal. Also the rear seat room in the new 4Runner is also a downgrade vs previous generation.
Agreed with you almost all areas. Power train, usability and proven reliability for me is more important than electronic gadgets and new looks. My current 2021 TRD OR 6 speed manual has plenty of power for my needs. After weighting in all pros and cons. Big takeaway is the size of the 4th gen and turn radius. Big no no for me. I drive on a lot of the narrow trails in my parts of Utah, both the Rockies and the desert. Getting to close to full size truck, sticking with my 3rd gen. I rather give up the front stabilizer disconnect with a button and take a narrower truck with tighter turning radius.
I really like your channel. As a long long term tacoma owner, I no longer have any interest in their super expensive turbo, turbo/hybrid compact "economy" trucks. (no interest in '25 4R either) Toyota lost me completely. Your right we want simple affordable trucks not super complex high dollar machines. Good Bye Toyota!!!
The 2.4 liter “feels like a V6” but IS NOT! I wish that Toyota would at least give the Hybrid as an option on higher trims instead of mandatory! Also, I wish Toyota would bring back being able to spec and order what ever truck you want. Not having to settle on what they give you! I own a 3rd gen. TRD Pro Tacoma and 5th gen. TRD ORP 4Runner…. I pray I never have to buy another Toyota… Which is SAD….. I used to love them… Not anymore.

David inflation is high worldwide, you not going to see cheap truck again. Honda is selling civic for more than $40000, i saw touring model for $47000. They do have a V6 twin turbo in their Tundra right now. And I, too, would love to see that in Tacoma. But I'd rather they make that engine work reliably first before putting them in Tacoma. Taco might have transmission problems but at least that turbo 4 hasn't blown up yet, whereas Toyota's turbo V6 has
Wow, I was surprised by that turbo sound! Thanks for sharing this interesting review.
I’m patiently waiting with fingers crossed that Toyota introduces a compact truck to the us market
