How Lloyd Banks Sabotaged His Career

  • As much as it may seem like the ultimate goal, becoming an overnight sensation is a dangerous route. Suddenly awarded everything you could ever want in the blink of an eye, the slew of one-hit-wonders that hip-hop has birthed, have made its pitfalls all too clear to see.
Widely regarded as one of hip-hop’s finest MC’s and unofficial “Punchline King”, Lloyd Banks is a fan favorite to most who lived through the commercial boom in the 2000’s. But in the eyes of some, he’s the poster boy for taking your foot off the gas.

And for his mixtapes I mean the PLK and the Halloween Havocs was my shit and The Cold Corner was all great, but as time passes the ability to make good music started slowing up. Lyrically he’s always top notch and I will never say a bad thing about him lyrically, but what about the music? When I’m working or I’m driving I want to hear good music. I’m tired I really don’t want to hear complicated shit, and the majority of people in the world feel the exact same. Not to say I want to hear bull shit, but I want to hear good music and at the end of the day that’s what wins the public opinion. Don’t do that. Real fans know what went on with G Unit. Banks came in the game at 18/19 years old. Back in early 2000s the whole unit was moving off 50’s energy and say so. Once everybody started growing separately, Banks got in his own way cause he was always an introvert and didn’t wanna play to the industry and also he felt like getting out of 50’s shadow. Understandable if all people associated you with was being the biggest rapper’s number 2.
After his pops passed, that played with him the most. 50 not having any parents and being all about business wanted Banks to get back to work (insensitive or not) and that’s when they started to fall out for real. Banks never has and still doesn’t wanna play the industry games, even after selling platinum albums. That’s what “sabotaged” his career.

Lloyd Banks is my favorite rapper alive but I think his Rap Career been that way he made it out to be without no one getting in Banks way...50 gave Banks the biggest opportunity that any Underground Artist can get and that's on a Major Label debut album #GetRichOrDieTryin and on a song with Eminem "Don't Push Me"...Banks didn't take advantage of the privileges he had with being successful on a label with 50 who was the biggest rapper in 2003-2005...Banks had a chance to get from out of the shadows of 50 but didn't because he spoiled and lazy and didn't wanna make any adjustments to the changing culture that went to the internet. Many of us PLK fans asked for videos to projects that Banks had but no visuals for anything besides the vids that 50 made him do off some of his 2009 and 2010 mixtapes.I feel Banks sabotaged himself and didn't want the Crown enough because his own ways...Lloyd Banks should've been just as big as Lil Wayne,Drake and Kanye...He missed that opportunity and that's why 50 shouldn't be the blame

Do you know how much money went into that project that Banks carelessly left to get leaked?? 50 put his solo rap career on hold so Banks,Buck and Yayo could put out their own Solo Albums...You seem like to me either you don't know or just don't realize how much 50 had to compromise for the better of G-Unit...Anybody that was around and was old enough to remember would speak on that...Banks stopped himself for reaching the Highest Level in Hip Hop...50 wanted nothing more than for Banks to be what Kanye was to Jigga...Stop with this false narrative about 50

I’m a visual artist, sometimes when I build myself to a point where I’m good, I self sabotage. I’ve had tons well known rappers support my portraits & had recognition from my peers, then I just crumble. The reason I mentioned myself is I suffer from severe mental health issues esp ptsd, & extreme depression & maybe it’s the same for Lloyd. Everyone says seek help & I do but it takes foot work too make it happen. There’s a huge stigma in hip hop about mental health issues, but little by little people have started pushing me & are championing the fact that it exist. One example is Conway he is in the forefront of shedding light. It’s a big win for Conway to not hide it & let it be known. All I can say is I hope Lloyd does great on an indie scale, sometimes it’s easier to invest ourselves with no other intentions than creating our craft & whatever happens after is in the worlds hands. As for The “Lazy Lloyd” title maybe just maybe he got that tattooed on himself in a moment of self hatred or a lack of understanding why he is the way he is. It’s very common for those with depression to harm their careers.

You know, having a career in the music industry (or any artform, for that matter) doesn't have to be synonymous with "reaching superstardom and retaining it for 10+ years". You can stay underground for all your career and still make enough money to live comfortably.
There are many, many musicians who play mostly small gigs or do small commissioned jobs and they're happy with that.
Banks had a platinum selling solo album and crew album, which is more than 99% of people striving to reach stardom ever achieve. And besides that, he released a couple other albums and mixtapes that did number in the ten thousands. So he's obviously able to live off of the past big successes and the moderate success of more recent work and maybe he's happy with that.

Bro, 50 fell off after massacre so i don't see why anyone would expect the rappers under him to excel in music careers. 🤷🏽‍♂️
Game's discography has developed so well over the years & he proved that he didn't even need one ounce of 50's help on The Doctor's Advocate (classic & better than Documentary)......50 ain't got no pancake mix after 2005 album wise. 🤷🏽‍♂️

That album was phenomenally mediocre from the songwriting to the production to features to vocals in my opinion. The only good thing about it were the singles but everything else wasn't it chief.......Kanye West showed him how to make real album with Graduation.

All banks music from the start of his career till around the end of 2005 was classic shit. but you could see the lack of his motivation already somewhat when Rotten Apple came. That cd was mediocre as f by his normal standarts, and it was kinda all downhill from there on. But punchline wise he doing just as good as Fab is still doing these days. And that takes dedication.

U don't seem like a banks fan.. Cuz what u saying is foolish, have u heard any mixtapes? Have u heard fno, cold corner 2, hh2/3, blue Friday series, aon? Saying that it was downhill is not correct by any means. End of the day thats ur opinion but to us banks core fans, that is not agreeable at all.

@@Lein111 am not a banks hardcore fan, I think he was best outta g unit and has amazing tracks till 2005, but i rly havent taken a listen on lotta his music that came after rotten apple. but I did listen to this newest album of his just now and it was legit fire. any of the projects u named, i havent taken time to listen yet. gotta at some point. but harsh fact that has always affected my opinion is taht if the beat is ass, i cant enjoy the bars. And most lloyd banks projects i heard after rotten apple were just not it for me. But the same can be said about almost any old school famous rapper that was hot in the early 2000s, when you look at their music from 2006s and on.
