Jeff Shaffer I have a question for you? Did you have to move your fuel rail above your injectors in order to pull out the first coil? all the eBay videos I see seem to show people pulling them right out but when I look at my truck it looks as though I would have to unbolt that fuel rail and pull it up off the injectors and let some fuel leak out just to get at the coil
@@TheFifthWallz You do not need to remove the fuel rail. The coils have a flexible section that goes to the plug, just unplug, unbolt bend out of the way and Rock & Roll!
Dont worry its in the comment section that I tell you all about how I came up with the idea to make a video about this because my cousins GF Tina has this truck, and after she did me a favor picking my cows up from the market. Her check engine light came on....... Haha Thank you for the laugh, have a great day-Blair
You just push it in moderately so it slips on top of the spark plug, and then very lightly TRY to pull it back off. If it's not coming out with some resistance, it's properly seated
Just to add some info in case what happened to me is happening to someone else: The pin connectors that he talks about at 0:50 wil have the plastic break, and so you'll get the code because the pin won't connect properly to the coil. In this case you can buy the plastic housing at a junkyard, or even Amazon for like 10-15 bucks. A lot cheaper and worth checking before buying a coil thinking the one you got is no good.
Cmon, show us how to change #6! Thats what i gotta do! Most do the easy stuff,on camera plus its especially easy because everything was loosened up and cursing done off camera.. lol... Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
How do you disconnect the coil pack on a Ford F150 2004 4.6 L Triton engine XLT because some of the connections are different. I'm keep seeing one that's not like mine
Thank you for the compliment. First, if your engine is running rough, you will want to get the codes scanned. That way you have a reference point of where to start. If you are positive it is a coil related issue, the easiest method would be to get a "Coil-On Plug Spark Tester). You will need to get another person to help, and remove the fuel pump fuse. Then you can install the tester on to each cylinder and have the second person turn the key to the start position. From here you can see if each coil is producing spark. If one does not produce spark, swap it with a known good coil. IF it sparks, replace the coil. If it does not spark. Inspect the wiring for that coil. Happy Motoring.
Half of my coil bolts broke :(:( it’s been over a year I have it shimed tight though on 4 of them and they do come loose at times I just flushed my heater core yesterday the truck ran fine and then this morning I have one cylinder not firing and now have a engine light on ! I’m hoping I just got one wet and also have 7 new coil packs but don’t really wanna change all that again !on lunch I’m going to go get it scanned
I have an 07 F-150 xl 4.6L I think this is the problem I’m having today, seems to be misfiring bad, lost some power, do I have to change spark plug & coil??
When was the last time that you had the spark plugs replaced? It is possible to replace coils without the need of replacing the plugs. If you have not changed the plugs I would be sure to check the ones in your problem cylinders and from there decide to replace them all if needed. Happy Motoring!
Revit Auto hey my man your video was extremely helpful, thx for uploading. I didn’t think dealing with a bad ignition coil was something I could perform it at home, but the task wasn’t to bad, thanks to your video!! Thx again, hope you have a nice Holiday!! #Subscribed
I have an 04 that has already had cylinder 1 coil replaced due to misfiring at about 1200 rpms under load, such as climbing slight hills. that was a couple of years ago and I took it to Ford for the repair. Looks like the same thing again, but I'll have to wait and see if it's cylinder 1 again, that'll be the first one I check. Simple enough, thanks so much for the Video, much appreciated.
I have a question,. It looks like that fuel rail over the top of the fuel injectors is in the way of pulling out the coil.... So does that have to come off? Or is it okay if I just unbolt the front bolt and loosen the back bolt and just swing it up a little bit since it's my first front coil on the passenger side?? I understand that a little bit of fuel will come out but that's fine because it'll evaporate.. BUT, I WAS HOPING THERE IS A WAY TO DO IT WITHOUT EVEN SCREWING WITH THAT FUEL RAIL OR FUEL ROD WHATEVER IT'S CALLED
I am not sure what I paid for it, but Rockauto.com has awesome pricing and you can order online from Advance auto parts and pick up instore with a discount code from shopping online! Happy Motoring! -Blair
7 could be the roller follower having popped out. Apparently a common failure for that particular cylinder misfire. Check out fordtekmakuloco on youtube.
Thank you, this truck has one size taller tire, and a leveling kit for the front end. Next time I am around the truck I will look at the exact tire size.
They're called OBD2 scanners. You can get em at any auto parts store. But you probably dont need the more expensive ones (they can up to 800 bucks). Check the box, and see what type of diagnostics it will read, as most basics will pick up the code he's talking about in the video.
a good one cost a few hundred. the better the scanner the less work tracking down the parts. generic codes leave you guessing. a quality shop has a few thousand dollar tool.
Really helpful video my coil just broke today I believe is just one And Does anyone know when you are replacing the coils it doesn't matter like how they like do they have a certain number or like you get one and replace it with the new one or like the spark-pugls you know they go on certain order because I'm trying to replace mine but I don't know if it's okay just to get it like or like I have to get them on order
It would be nice to see someone actually get to that back left coil and remove it instead of the easy front left! And let me tell some of you, I have a 2004 and it's not as easy as these guys show...
As hard as that rear left coil is! How do you think I could possibly film it ;)! It certainly is not easy if it is your first time, but a majority of the youtubers that show this job have done this job or similar so many times we have muscle memory. Let us know how you made out!
@@Revitauto lol, I think this is at least my third time taking this one out! But I managed more easily this time seeing as though I had to pretty much take out everything including the intake manifold and valve covers to fix what needed to be fixed - the last roller follower (or rocker arm as I've heard it) and the knock sensors. However, now I realize that part of my problem with this particular coil pack is that the valve cover is cracked where I screw it in so now, jb weld here I come! Thanks for the response, I appreciate it ;)

Very helpful, thanks a lot man! Do you have a video on how to remove and replace coil pack #4? It's so hard to access.
Just needed a brief overview. This is exactly what I was looking for. Cost me $35. Thanks for the video.

Question my pig tail of the harness appears to have been glued??? Any idea on how to disconnect?
I have oil down in my number 8 on 4.6 liter . How do i get the oil out i can not barely reach or see in the hole. Will the oil stop it from working?
No grease on the coil?

Did the check engine light come on or was the truck misfiring and you checked for codes??
After resetting the code, how long do I have to wait to see if it’s ok?
Is cylinder 3 hard to get to I got a misfire on cylinder 3

How do I know which cylinder is #8? Do they line up in sequential order, or…? Also, must I get OEM coils, or does it matter?
Good video, thanks. My question is, without the plug in test module, how do you determine which coil is failing? Thanks.
Thank you for the compliment.

My truck likes to shut off and I have to spray a little bit of ether into the airbox to get it started?
Do you have a check engine light on?
But how do you know when its fitted properly onto the spark plug? You didnt cover that.
What type of brand coil did you buy??
Just wondering, this should be the same as an 05 expedition right? I need to replace my coils also. Thanks
The process is the same! Good Luck keep us posted on your success! Happy Motoring!

Ted have you tried to remove the coil yet? The coil is flexible and can lift and bend out of the way. Message back if you have any issues
Thank you, how much did your coil cost you? I’m looking to buy one tomorrow. My cylinder 7 is misfiring. I’m hoping this is the cause

Will 2008 spark plug fit the 2006 engine ?
Not sure! But you can look up the part numbers and model year it will fit!
Did you ever find out? I need to know this too
Were I can this scanner please let me know
You can buy basic scanners at Walmart for $20

What we’re to happen if I didn’t clear the codes
The truck will run correctly, it will just have a stored code. I would clear the codes or unplug the battery for a few minutes

No certain order. There is no distributor on the engine so you don't have to be concerned about that.Just replace each one that needs replacing.
