    You just saved me thousands!!!... a mechanic said my transmission was going. I did my research on the engine and found that this exact problem causes misfires and a jerking when accelerating up hill and in OD. Thank you so much!!

      Mine was doing the same thing, misfires but almost exclusively in od going uphill. replaced all 8 and the sparkplug, it was good for 15k miles. and now it's misfiring at idle and showing it's a coil pack...I'm not sure if it's really something else going on. how has yours held up?

    Before replacing any coils you should get your catalytic converter checked. My truck was throwing ignition coil codes so I replaced all of them but I kept getting codes. Turns out one of my converters was completly blocked which was throwing false ignition coil codes.

    Question for you. I bought 8 new coils to change out the old ones. When going to remove the old ignition coils. They start to pull out easy but the spring in the middle seems stuck to the spark plug. Not the boot but the spring starts stretching. I didnt know if I should just keep pulling or if there is something i should use to grab the spring and help pull it. Thanks.

    I think I have a coil going back on a 2007 F-150. It hasn't tripped the Check Engine Light yet. How could I use the scanner to check how the COPs are working?

    • @SC5MusicOfficial
      @SC5MusicOfficial 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your scanner is able to view Mode 6 data you should be able to see how many misfires are on each cylinder. Any cylinder with a bad coil should have significantly more misfires than the others.

    • @paulmillar128
      @paulmillar128 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In 2006 Ford changed over to a LDR and HDR data witch means low data rate and high data rate so they used crank speed to determine a misfire event mode 6 was no longer needed in 2007

    My 05 Ford F-150 had a new engine put in 4 years ago. The last 3 years about every 4 months a coil goes bad. Typically I brought it in for service. But at $250 a pop I’m tired of getting them replaced one at a time. First number 1 went than 3 and than 5. Is this typical? I’m asking as I have bought a new set and plan on doing the work myself but want to know if there is something more I should do? Thanks

    • @LemurMonitors
      @LemurMonitors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! We did find some info for you! Coil replacement seems to ramps up at around 70k and tapers off at 150-170k mark . id suggest going to parts store and doing them yourself if possible and if its a consistent problem. using dielectric grease when installing them on the spark plug and connector ends of the coil, might help make them last longer.
      Also make sure no water, coolant or oil is around the spark plug or coil or in the cylinder .
      if you wants to risk pulling the plugs they might be defective and past there life cycles causing the coil to over stress and burn out early (triton engine plugs are known to be not that best)

    I replaced all my coilpacks and plugs but still have a miss, i also put dielectric grease on each spade and on the plug contact side and every connector, but I still have a miss...
    Maybe someone knows the answer to this question. I used my powerprobe maestro, which can test the injector circuit, and found that on cylinders 5-8, I would see an occasional Injector On Time drop to as low as 40.1 and even 101. Cylinders 1-4 would stay around 2.78 - 3.00 or so and never drop. I think this shows my occasional miss would be on the control side to the injectors, which could be the pcm? Also, I watched a fordtechmakeuloco video where he shows a #7 cylinder intake roller follower popped off and was cause the misfire there..I assume with my findings this shouldn't be what is causing my miss?
    I also verified I had good voltage to each power side of each injector connector. Any ideas? I replaced the fuel driver control module by the spare tire about 1.5 years ago with a doorman, I don't know if a malfunction in it could cause my on time drop or not though.

    2006 Ford F150 Lariat Supercrew 5.4. I've had what I believe is mis firing for a while now. I replaced all of my spark plugs myself and the misses went away. They came back again a few months later and I checked all my plugs and found one that was extremely loose. I tightened and the misses went away briefly. Now the misses are back and ive checked all my plugs I think 3 separate times now. I'm quit the pro at checking and replacing all of them now lol! During ALL of this I have not had any check engine light come on. I have an OBD2 scanner hooked up Bluetooth to my phone and I'm running the Torque Pro version app. All scans and test come back normal. The truck really misses under load like going up hills, and also in the higher gears. The lower gears I'm misssing some hp. So I'm thinking I might have a bad or several bad ignition coils. What's your recommended way to test them? I love Chris Fix and his vids. I've been a suscriber of his for a long time. I appreciate any reply I can get guys! Thank you so much and sorry for the post being so long! But I'm really trying to figure this out.

      I'd have a look at mode 6 (even if you *are* using a competitor scan tool 😉) for test ID $53 - this will show your misfire tests per cylinder and might help you narrow it down.
      You can find Ford's misfire mode 6 documentation at www.fordservicecontent.com/ford_content/catalog/motorcraft/OBDSM608.pdf starting around page 9

    With my check engine light on, I went to AutoZone to get the 5.4 motor scanned. Got a P03 code (misfire). I'm almost certain it's a coil that's got a bad connection. But their scan tool doesn't tell which plug is reacting badly. Can I get another scan someplace else to get a reading on which is coil is bad besides going to the dealership? I would like a more specific reading to pinpoint exactly which one is trouble.

    • @BearNPum
      @BearNPum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For each coil one by one, remove the electrical connector. If the engine runs worse when you pull off the connector, then that coil is fine. Once you find the one that you unplug and the engine doesn't run rougher or change idle speed, then that is the bad one. Also, it is certainly possible that the wiring harness has issues and isn't providing power or trigger to the coil. If you have a meter and manual (with wiring diagram) you can check the power and trigger. A "noid light" would make the trigger check easy. In lieu of not have eqp. or the wiring diagram to check the wiring, you can swap the suspect coil with it's neighbor. If the issue stays with the coil, then bad coil. If the issue stays with original cylinder, then likely wiring issues.

    • @TheDivergentDrummer
      @TheDivergentDrummer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is actually 12V, however, they all share a common +12v rail ( all wires will be the same color) that is fused, and then each coil has an individual ground on the plug that goes back to the ECM. So in effect, they are always live, and the ECM pulses ground to the coil to fire it.
