^This. You can even see my periapsis is well below surface level on the readouts at the top of the screen. Both the ascending stage and fairings were detached well before a stable orbit was reached.
No craft file... bruh. At least make a tutorial for the rocket. Now I can't build a colony... same for all his other videos. How to build a space station: "go ahead and build a space shuttle and then put this thing in the shuttle" it so annoying.
A lot of people don't understand how creative you can be in this game, and how you can learn from this... Ksp is one of the most underrated games of all time. Beautiful game
There you go, building goddamn base that are aesthetic as fuck while I go and keep landing segments upside down and forgetting to quicksave and then quickloading and deleting half the base. True story
twitter.com/Matt_Lowne All my twitter people got to hear about this in advance! If you want sneak previews as well, in addition to being able to make suggestions (you can suggest stuff on TH-cam too but I'm more likely to see it on Twitter) then follow me and spread the love! I hope you enjoyed this video, no craft file (like the space station and Duna base videos) since these are more fun to build yourself! :)
Late to the KSP game. Just started playing about a month ago. Simply amazing game and I am awe struck by your creations. Gives me a TON to think about. Son and I both love the game and glad we finally got it. Amazing job!
Now you need to send them some rovers (transportation, recon, mobile drilling etc), jet-pack style transportation, an emergencey escape system and a tanker to move fuel between munar surface and low orbit to nearby vessels!
I would have built it on the surface, but unless you use mods the only realistic way of doing so would be to add wheels to the modules and just drive them together. But I think it looks a bit ugly that way, I prefer the cleaner look of having the base supported purely by landing legs.
I chanange you to build a Kerbol station: A station that covers the entire SUN! I will be requesting the same from Scott Manly ,Danny, Nexter's lab, SWdennis, and jebidiahs lab. Possibly, this could be a comunity project?
This would be really cool, (I might try it myself once,) but the community thing is probably not a good idea, because they have to exchange save files a lot.
That's not possible in KSP, because the physics range is counting from the center of mass, and if you try to build beyond that, everything will just disappear and the next time you enter the physics range you can find yourself inside the structure, which will lead to many explosions in result.
Blake Bonner fuck off stop making fun of my country, why is America throwing shade at my country like America’s got room to talk about being a good country
Your video's are always fun to watch, and most of all have appropriate music. Loved the music around 1:45. Thanks for this one! PS: after about 2 years now, of fiddling around, i started a new research campaign about a month ago but since 2 days ago something clicked, now for the first time, Eve, Duna, Jool literally worlds are opening up:D Ksp is awesome.
New sub here and relatively new KSP player. I love this video! You've given me some good ideas. Sorry if you've answered this elsewhere, what mods are you using?
Thanks! I use Kerbal Engineer, Planetshine and Kerbal Alarm Clock mainly. There are some great parts mods around that I would definitely use if I didn't make TH-cam videos!
Matt Lowne I don't really get it, why don't you use more mods if you want to ? For example here you represented hydroponics, but why not use mods that add life support and use real hydroponics ?
Your videos are always so well shot, commented and edited - thanks! Ballsey move to land everything like that at once, but I love the layout. Thanks again. :)
Thank you! It was landed like that because I wanted it to be supported on landing legs. If I were to assemble it on the ground I would have needed to add wheels to the modules to connect them all up, which I didn't think looked as good!
+Matt Lowne Haha, and I never regret it either :) Also, I like how this contrasts with your space station video in terms of debris ejected into orbit. Scott Manley would be proud of you!
that's near goddamn impossible. You need 7000-8000 delta-V in rocket fuel to leave Eve with multiple Aerospikes. Pretty much the only legitimate way to leave Eve is through spaghetti staging- which would be too much weight for an SSTO, and thus will likely never get into orbit. Also, the SSTO can't overheat during the Eve entry. Dude, just think next time.
Jurassic Xenomorph The point is, an SSTO is flat-out impossible. Even if he did manage to get a spaghetti-staged SSTO onto eve, it wouldn't be an SSTO because of the decouple-ings.
I'm not saying it's categorically impossible, but I am very sceptical anyone will ever build a "Kerbin to Eve and back" SSTO, the fuel requirements are just too monumental.
I just landed my first Mun base module, with a 6 Kerbal crew capacity, full-size lab (i forgot the name of the lab that fits 2 kerbals), drill, and ore tank. It doesn’t have a fuel converter, but I’m going to add that in another module. Edit: It also took over an hour of flight testing, safety testing, and oversight testing (I actually forgot the landing engines on it once.).
mustangbeauty4 the guy above me is correct, i used some mods to make kerbin the actual size of the earth with the same earth gravity and i had a pretty hard to getting into orbit with me regular ass rockets. i mean like i still can't perform interplanetary journeys and struggle trying to even encounter another ship orbiting kerbin, but my point still stands
Kerbin actually has a similar _mass_ to Earth. I guess that means that it's not any more "difficult" (in terms of fuel required etc.) if you could target the Mun perfectly to begin with without having an intermediate stage to orbit Kerbin. That would be hard to plan though of course. And constructing the base could have been done in the Mun orbit instead.
Amused. Fantastic choice in music. Skyworld, by Two Steps From Hell. Onna my favorite musical pieces. And a very fitting title! Additional. Oh, and Dragonrider by Two Steps From Hell, also a great piece!
i like to think that when we finally put a base onto the moon, it'll be like this. Some convoluted construction program in orbit and the whole think just drops into place like its an ikea desk
Tip for anyone struggling to do mun landing: put down extra large decouplable landing struts. It adds A LOT of stability in really curvy and weird areas. Ps make sure that they decouple when you lift off the mun.
I made a base BASEd on this design but with about 60% more loaded ore tanks then I put it at the bottom of Kerbin ocean. I even made a submarine to dock. It turns out in a space game underwater is kinda buggy so AIR intakes and jet engines work underwater, however RCS thrusters do not so I had to use a non conventional method of docking. In the end it all worked out!

*fairing splits into tenths of pieces*
yea
He didn't decouple the fairings when he was in orbit. The debris would have still been on a suborbital trajectory.
^This. You can even see my periapsis is well below surface level on the readouts at the top of the screen. Both the ascending stage and fairings were detached well before a stable orbit was reached.

Atleast not staging
There you go, building goddamn base that are aesthetic as fuck while I go and keep landing segments upside down and forgetting to quicksave and then quickloading and deleting half the base.
True story
how do you accidentally land a lander upside down
Al Eks Making it hold to prograde, too much thrust through the engine made it go up and it flipped over then landed on its top.
I do that shit all the time, man. That's just the hard life of KSP.
just don't hold on on Prograde! How come you haven't learned to just use your fingers to control the lander on your own.
try using "hold rotation" instead of "retrogade" once your speeds are slow enough and you've slowed down most of the orbital horizontal speed
Make a spacestation as close to the sun as possible :3

Matt! I have an idea!
Do a real solar system challenge, where you make a Mars colony or something like that.
That's what I like to see :3 now crash some stuff into it
i agree with Jupiter go land on Mars.
I've already done a Duna colony though, and RSS is too far from Stock for me to consider really. Thanks for the suggestion though!
no prob Matt just keep up the good work
There Will be no junk in space today!
*dumps junk in ocean*
Technically...
The amount of planning and perfection of this is stunning
Also, those landing boosters could have been used to make the base hop or as robotic hoppers to get the most out of them...
Im scared to ask how long this took entirely. From designing, then building, then launching and hoping it goes as planned..
longer than this video
There is not much planning here. I think, the whole mission could be made in one day, editing and uploading the video - the second day.
DUH!
A few hours of gameplay, edited down to 5 minutes.
KASASpace and 48 seconds
for the life of me I can't figure out how to make orbital meetings. I always mess that up. do you have a tutorial for that?
i have to say Matt, this is my favourite channel with KSP content. I love the imagination and fun that goes into your creations.

Now you need to send them some rovers (transportation, recon, mobile drilling etc), jet-pack style transportation, an emergencey escape system and a tanker to move fuel between munar surface and low orbit to nearby vessels!

+Matt Lowne
It's the more Kerbel way of building on the mun doing it the way you did.
Nice job, btw!
Flawless transition between "Skyworld" and "Dragon Rider!"

that's impossible, it has the same issues as Scott Manley's space elevator.
What you suggest is building a Dyson Sphere. You are just asking for the Kraken to come play. Would be cool to see attempted, though.
That's not possible in KSP, because the physics range is counting from the center of mass, and if you try to build beyond that, everything will just disappear and the next time you enter the physics range you can find yourself inside the structure, which will lead to many explosions in result.
Klaas Gersson this is also bad if its community because he said Danny could be involved
