This verison was nominated for a Grammy in 1969. People back then, and people today, love this song and love this performance.

This number was big-time on the radio and TV in those days...very late 1960s and I love that time.

That was another time and another place . The 60’s had the best music hands down. I love the unison singing.

One person's cheesy is another person's gold. This was the era of perfectly crafted pop. This song is an example of how amazing pop music can be when created by a great talent.

I'm here because of the great Sergio Mendes (1941-2024), may he RIP. That's the best cover I've heard of this great song. Her reaction is at least honest, but if the only word she can think of is "cheesy", the problem is on her end.

I think your wrong . This has nearness most from the 50's and early 60 'a before rock and roll . Very much influence from Latin and Jazz. They were hugely popular with the audience 40- 50 years old who came from the big band era

Well Sergio Mendez and his group had several hits in this time frame. Some covers of other artists, but he put a Latin or samba beat and feel which was popular back then. The dark hair singer is Lani Hall famous night club singer who would go on to marry Herb Albert they would form A and M records who produ ed such artists in the 70s like the Carpenters. Loved your honest reaction oh and by the way that song was written by john Lennon and paul mccartney just info. Lol stay safe much love to you and yours.

Keep doing oldies and I keep coming back and I bring friends. The beauty on your left is Lani Hall, wife of Herb Alpert, founder of A&M records. You should do the Carpenters, signed by A&M in 1969.

    Cheesy? To each his own.

Sorry that you don't appreciate this. They are regarded as superb musicians and singers by most!

I wonder what Ms. Maunalee has composed, or arranged? :(

I loved it. They were easy to listen to. I liked a lot of music from the '50s through the '90s--mostly country and pop; not much since then, though there are exceptions.

Love this... Love the sixties... Love Bossa Nova... Love Brazil... Kind of South American Bachrach... Anyway, try reacting to "Mais Que Nada"- might find it more to your liking.

I guess one person's "cheezy" is another's (mine) class...

This was one of those pieces that started to be identified as soft rock. The Carpenters (I still miss St. Karen!) were the early King / Queen of it. Took a song we all knew and loved in a totally different direction... the (then) exciting Bossa Nova style! IMHO, it still holds up. Nothing offensive, nothing special, just a sweet Beatles tune, done another way!

It wasn't "cheesy" back in '66. Just like Rock Me Amadeus wasn't cheesy in the 80s.
You have no sense of perspective.

I also like 30 and 40s music. But, I do think there was great music in the 60s and 70s. Really like Dionne Warwick and her collaboration with Burt Bacharach. Love your reactions and your complete honesty. Don't always agree but, I like your independence and not caving in and giving reactions to increase viewership. Much love and respect from Texas.

Good music is good music, it doesn't matter the age or time. This lady doesn't know what good music is. Contemporary music is so bland in that musicians today rely on computers and synthesizers rather than playing actual musical instruments.

"Cheesy" - To sy that and tell us you're a 40's-50's spirit is BS.

    This was the worst of '60s pop, try Patty Page's " Just a Simple Melody ", from '62, ( I think). 😉

Wow, never heard this & it must be a top contender for worst cover version ever. Still, at least Sergio seemed to be enjoying the view, especially the lady in the red dress.

Paul McCartney wrote that this was his favourite cover of the song.
