Long live brazil i love bossa nova i love your band you came to our country ,philippines several times,i'll never tire listening to all your songs, very talented band, gracies
One of my most memorable live concerts in those days. Did Sergio say, in the quiet between songs, "Balut!" as he did in the concert I was at held at the Araneta Coliseum (I think, late 70s)?? That got the crowd laughing! Unlike most big acts, he doesn't skip over the Philippines when he tours. Ever faithful to his Pinoy fans!
Just saw Lani and Herb in San Luis Obispo, and she can still sing like an angel! What a talent she is, I had to explain it to my date, she thought she knew everything about music!!!! Ha ha! Now she's has heard real musicians, not just Axl Rose!!
I love it that Mas Que Nada is uptempo to the max! Mendes always stood for top class Brazilian pop. Look up in YT the Brazil '66 version of The Frog. Delightful song!
Two men sound and Sergio Mendes, along with Tom Jobim, Astrud and Jõao Gilberto, Vinicius de Moraes, Eliis Regina, Cazuza and more Brazilian artists bring me back to that lovely country. I don't understand why some Brszilian people don't appreciate Sergio's effort to make a name of himself out of Brazil during the dictatorship period. Oh wow, Bossa Nova Beatles with The Fool On The Hill
Thank you for this video. This brings back wonderful memories of the '60's and '70's. As I watch this concert, I can remember what music used to be like. For me, anyway.
if you (like me) grow up with this kind of music, usually you don't like what is called music today, thank you sergio mendes and thank you brazil for your soul added to world music
More than a BEAUTIFUL show. Well, when Sergio Mendes and Brazil 88 went to Mexico City I enjoyed all your very nice show at Premier by Chrysler's invitation in 1987. G💖D BLESS YOU TO EACH OTHER. Bom Dia !
Love so much the moves and swaying of Marietta Waters especially in "Pretty World", how she tilted her head sideways at 8:09 and how she turned around at 9:06. Definitely a woman of talent, beauty, class and style.

Oh my God! I was looking for this video since a long time ago. I was 14 when they used to show this on TV here in Costa Rica. I even put a Sony tape recorder in front of the TV speaker and recorded it 😂. It was the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. There is another video of the same series with Henry Mancini I wish someone could post it.
This is a super great video of Sergio Mendes Brazil 77. Wow! Really thank you for sharing it! Loving it! What is here is so very beautiful. A great time of history of Sergio Mendes and Brazil 77. Great nostalgia and warm memories of his musical magic.
When I hear how they did "Pretty World", their instrumentation reminds me a lot of the theme song from the TV show "MASH", especially the way the flute is used. In that song, and in "Out of My Head", Mr. Mendes was certainly tearing up some keys!!

Don't know if this was on their tour that took them to Canada in May 1977. I was able to watch their show in Calgary, Alberta. It was a great concert, great music and stunning lead singers in Marietta Waters and Leeza Miller. Can't help it but watch this video over and over again. A very classy concert too.
@@aplleyva He also made nice jazz funk ("Deja Vu") and the interesting album "Agora" (its track "Ritmo Number One" is an example for heavy track overdubbing). This is a stylish version of ABBA. There is also a good German Sergio Mendes documentary on TH-cam with many good scenes.
Thank you avcdeal - this is precious and never mind the quality as it is. I've been a big fan of Sergio Mendes and have all of his recordings since the vinyl day. And the performances from the late 70s on video bring those recordings to life again.
Thanks for posting rare glimpse of Sergio's evolement into the the 70's still relevant and ambitous....but my paticular favorite the timeless "Like A River"🥰
Hi Trent, thank you for the comment, as a Sergio fan i found it very difficult to find video footage of him, so began to realise that what i had was rare. 😄

@@avcdeal I like his newer material as well too. Funny that I got in to Sergio Mendes because I hated music of "my generation" (GenX). I was working at a Tower Records store near Los Angeles in summer 1992. The main store played grunge and rap (mostly Nirvana, Pearl Jam as well as rap artist of that time). I often begged to work in the jazz room because the music was better. Well Sergio Mendes's Brasilero was a new release and I fell in love with that album immediately. It was so much better than the current pop music and smooth jazz at that time. Then I discovered his back catalog Heck, I was only 19 years old at that time too.
To this day, Sergio Mendes concerts are perfection. Marietta Leeza Miller mastered the vocals. The song ( 1 of 2 songs) Stevie Wonder wrote for them "I Believe" superb, should've been a huge hit. But they nailed it in this Live Concert. Kudos to Marietta & Leeza😎🎶🎵🎵🎤🎤. Bonnie Bowden & Saundra Cotton orinally did it in 1975.
Wikipedia "The Look of Love" is a popular song composed by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and originally popularized by English pop singer Dusty Springfield. The song is notable for its sensuality and its relaxed bossa nova rhythm.[2][3] The song was featured in an extended slow-motion interlude to the 1967 spoof James Bond film Casino Royale. In 2008, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.[4] It also received a Best Song nomination at the 1968 Academy Awards. The song partially inspired the film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997).[5]
