@@wedgeantillies66 Glassing is a type of Orbital Bombardment.
In the rest of the SW context though.....the Turbolaser strength goes up and down, depending on what the plot needs them to do. We have the Base Delta Zero, which is basically liquefying the crust....all the way down to barely puffs of dirt, with absolutely no blast, heat or pressure. SW is exceedingly inconsistent in this.

In the halo universe, certainly, though as we don’t know enough about how the Rakaten achieve the devastation they wrecked on Tatooine cannit day for certain that is the case, coujd have easily have been some form of dark side Artefact or powered bomb left in the surface.
Certainly orbital bombardments happen, for strategic of tactical objective. As a base delta zero is so sparingly used with calm as the only example of it being used in lore.

Honorable mention of Tipoca City, a devastating canon example. Casualties were minimal, that much is true. However, in-universe, the loss of the clones' homeworld and the forced uprooting of any remaining Kaminoan cloning tech was catastrophic. Additionally, the out-of-universe dramatic end of an era became a haunting theme for many Star Wars fans.

One you didn't mention, that I think has interesting implications, is briefly mentioned in Kotor.
    Tatooine.
It was originally a lush, green world. Home to the people who would become the Tuskens.
But then the Rakatan Empire came, and glassed the entire planet, leaving nothing but glass and sand behind.
Just imagine how things would be different on Tatooine, if it weren't a barren desert.

The big problem with the lightsaber switching method of fighting is that against a trained force-sensitive opponent, you have just lost all defenses and they likely are being guided by the force to take advantage of that. Dueling combat is about simultaneously attacking and defending with each movement. Switching the blade off is a little like passing a sword from one hand to another behind your back - it's out of position to attack or defend and your concentration is tied up in not fumbling the timing of your intended move. It might work against an untrained civilian, but a capable opponent would kill you then and there.

7:11 I think the Taris bombardment is the best use of a bombardment but still falls short at the last step. I wish I had the option in dialogues throughout the game to show that I'm obsessed with stopping Malek *specifically* because of what he did at Taris. Nothing Malek's Sith empire does is even close to being that evil again. Other characters hardly talking about it is weird, but you can chalk it up to "trillions dying is not going to be *that* noticable to a galaxy of quadrillions of sentient beings. If I got to roleplay being way more bothered than everyone else seemed to be, it would also do more to highlight the straight up immoral amount of complacency the Jedi council was showing, which would have contributed to Revan remembering who he is as someone with huge problems with the Sith *and* the Jedi.
Instead it feels like I'm supposed to brush past Taris as an individual event except when affects the personal life of my crew members

#askeck Did the Ancient Sith know about the Star Forge? Ajunta Pall alludes quite heavily to the treasure of the Ancient Sith from his era to be the Star Forge, but I have yet to see this referenced anywhere else. I don't believe anyone other than the Rakatta, Revan, and Malak had anything to do with the Star Forge, or even had any knowledge whatsoever about its existence, and yet Pall seems to state otherwise and the Star Map is located within Naga Sadow's tomb, which couldn't have been a coincidence.
Continuity error? Plot thread left unresolved?

    • @beskamir5977
      @beskamir5977 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

The Korriban Star Map was damaged, just like all Star Maps were. Even if they could access the Korriban Star Map and learn of the Star Forge it would have insufficient data to actually reach the Star Forge. They'd have to go find a several other Star Maps and it's entirely possible they didn't have a known hyperspace route out of Sith Space even if they had ships with working and fueled hyperdrives.
However, I believe Vitiate sends Revan and Malak to go find the Star Forge so clearly it's something the Sith were aware existed. Though perhaps they were unaware of how powerful it was or Vitiate believed he could easily control Revan and Malak and so didn't really mind them getting first dibs on the Star Forge.

@@Necromancer4267 The True Sith are direct descendants of the Ancient Sith. So I think it'd make sense for the True Sith to know about the Rataka through whatever efforts the Ancient Sith did to uncover Rakatan history.
It'd probably be too obscure, uncertain, and generally mythic to be taken seriously by most scholars within the Sith, but Vitiate had centuries to read obscure lore and myth to figure out what the Star Forge might be, or at least conclude that the Star Maps point to something worthwhile.
I think that makes a lot more sense than to have Vitiate figuring it out completely on his own without any prior archeological work from other Sith. Since Dromund Kaas doesn't have a Star Map, he'd need to go or send people to Ziost, Korriban, Malachor, etc if he was doing all the research himself.
It just seems a lot more reasonable that all of that was researched well before the Great Hyperspace War. Which would place it somewhere between around 7000bby and 5000bby. Most likely closer to 7000bby. Which then means Ajunta's era Sith may have been the ones to figure out that the Star Map is a broken map and assumed that it must point to some sort of ancient dark side treasure.

I've been thinking of a incognito light saber design, one that acts like Ezra's blaster saber hybrid. Something I could hang at my hip as my "bounty hunter" equipment and looks and acts like a pistol like blaster. My fav type of saber has to be Count Dooku's with its curved style. Its familiar with weapons I've already trained with. Dooku's curved hilt already gives him the rapier like stance where his blade is pointing directly at the foe, rather than a vertical position, this would lend it self well to pointing and shooting as a blaster design as well. Perhaps it could take the same concept as the saber rifle in the Jedi archives except much much weaker and doesn't risk burning out the crystal. I could envision some "barrel" like attachment that I put on the saber when wishing to be incognito, that makes it look and act like a pistol but hinders the ability to light it like a normal saber blade while the barrel is fixed on to the end of it

I like to think that the outcasts of Taris were safe in the promised land.

The Outcasts actually made it just moments before the bombardment started, but while they were safe, they lost most of the luxuries in the Promised Land.

Didn't the Yuuzhan Vong commit orbital bombardment during the Fall of Coruscant?

I always thought the bombardment of Taris was dumb. Wouldn't that have taken a long ass time? Actually the planet itself doesn't make much sense to me. It's supposed to be a world on the outer rim, yet the entire planet is covered in city scape?

#AskEck at 2:32 the gunner calls their ship an “m-star deuce” which I’m assuming is a nickname for an imperial II class which is unbelievably rad, anyone with even a slight interest in military anything prob knows there’s countless slangs and nicknames soldiers give to their equipment, are there any more notable cases of this in Star Wars?

#AskEck why was the Empire so dead set on employing tactics and doctrines that were downright ridiculous and resource prohibitive for what it is they wished to accomplish? I mean what is the point of building and crewing an ISD if you’re just gonna park it off a hyperspace lane and only hassle freighter captains for months on end?

#AskEck, if & when your kids are old enough, are you going to have them review _Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures_ ? Because I honestly want your kids’ perspective on this TV series…

Orbital bombardments might be horrible from a moral perspective but they're also really cool. Even the name, orbital bombardment, sounds cool.
