Cannot believe you didn't mention that Ocean City Maryland beach is free... Yet you have to pay for Ocean City New Jersey's beach access between Memorial Day and Labor Day. A major factor to consider on your chart for beaches.

@@mikewillett5076 I go to LBI and we pay for beach badges. Insane! This past weekend it was assholes to elbows on the beach in Surf City. The waves crash on the beach and the actual beach is too damn narrow. Finer sand? They dredge the shit out of the ocean in NJ when they have the Noreaster every year. Do you mean to tell me you have taken a sample from OCMD and OCNJ to compare the two? How would you know which sand is finer?! Want finer sand, go to Seaside or Walton beach in Florida. That is fine sand! My favorite is when there are live munitions in the sand and also medical waste at the NJ beaches. Never heard any of that in OC MD! You mention riff-raff a lot and I seem to remember that riff-raff invaded two of the NJ boardwalks recently with fights and threats of a shooting. Weren't the World Trade Center bombers living and plotting that crime from Wildwood? Wasn't a 15-year-old stabbed in June on the OCNJ Boardwalk? Nothing like that in 2024 with the OCMD "riff-raff" as you like to refer to over and over. You argue like Trump with non-factual opinions and racist/economic overtones.

I live about an hour from Maryland's OC and so it's a lot of memories there for me, been going there since I can remember. I never went to any other beaches until later in life, I went to Virginia Beach, which was small I felt, and then I did go to Wildwood, which I did enjoy. But my beach will always be OCMD. I went into the haunted house built by Bill Tracy there with my parents, then with my wife, then my daughter, and then my grandkids, as well as many of the rides there at Trimpers, which are actually historic. The Inlet was there ever since I remember, but was actually made by a hurricane, and is very popular for ocean anglers here. They have a White Marlin Open here every year which brings in a very high revenue, attracting people like Michael Jorden. The Eastern Shore itself has a very unique culture, if you have time during a stay here, I suggest leave the beach a few days and see Smith or Tangier Islands, it's like going back in time, St Michaels and Black Water Wildlife Refuge which is a beautiful example of the Eastern Shore Wildlife and how much of it looked before settlement. If there, Stop and see the birth spot of Harriet Tubman, the store she was almost killed in, and the museum that was built for her. I love where I'm from, I can enjoy Ocean front, rivers, country charm, City Charm from Washington DC and Baltimore, or mountains all within a two-hour drive. I feel blessed....

If you're a 20-something and want to party with friends, you'll prefer MD. --- Oh, and you've got to mention Manco Manco Pizza, a local chain with 4 or 5 outlets, a staple of Ocean City NJ cuisine. New Jersey's was obviously closer coming from someone who lived an hour away yet 3-ish hours from Maryland's. My family and I visited there often to go to the boardwalk, ride some rides, get ice cream, and go down those little stores; especially this one place that had cats and you could watch the cats playing and sleeping from the windows. Maryland's is visually more memorable and is also has a location of the world's best pizza place; Grotto Pizza. (They better expand their business to Ohio someday lol) So con-wise, NJ has some real winners for people (one of the reasons why I moved far far away lol) and MD has the most hostile seagulls you'll ever meet. (This is coming from someone who nearly lost his fingers after trying to eat some french fries and minding his own business. I'm still traumatized today; it's been 8 years. I think the biggest difference between the Jersey shore resorts and Ocean City Md. is the fact that OC Md. has a bus service... If you are staying on the Island just walk to a corner bus stop, or if you are staying on the main land you can drive to the "park and ride" on route 50 park your car and take the bus to the inlet and with the paper pass you get when you pay your fare you can ride the busses all day as long as you show that pass to the driver.... New Jersey beach resorts don't have that service so for example if you re staying in North Wildwood you have to drive to the crest and either pay for parking or find parking on the streets, not easy to find street parking and sometimes even a pay parking lot that is NOT full...
The second difference I find are the beaches... OC Md. beach is shallow and known for rip tide, while Wildwood beach is very wide at spots and the sand is fine as in not course... My family and I have been to all the beaches you have mentioned and they all have their Pros and Cons it's all a matter of preference... ENJOY...!

If we’re talking ONLY the Ocean Cities, OCMD is the one for me since I’m a Maryland resident. But if we’re talking the beaches period? I’d have to say Assateague Island. I just have more memories of going there during the height of, and the waning month of summer respectively. The trip out there with close family most times, and one of my dad’s brothers for one day during mid to late August as the fear of returning to school kicks in, just hold closer to heart. Part of the route there always has us go past a big willow tree as a landmark in the directions.
On a good day the waters are chilly, but reasonably warm after having come up from Florida, while the wind is strong and the waves are always choppy. You can’t convince me otherwise that that beach is ever “calm.” I’ve been on a calm beach before, and that was in another country.
That beach was known as the Cove Beach at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. It had a whole artificial reef thing going on. One time the beach got to Assateague levels of active, and I could feel part of the reef near the shoreline that the water and sand decided to cover it up. The water was usually clear, but that time was as murky as OCMD’s public beach. The flag said one thing but instincts said another; One wrong step into the water, and you’re gonna be using that Travelers Insurance because you’ve got urchins in your foot now!
What I’m trying to say is Maryland Beaches appear to be training youth in the ways of FAFO, and we were 1000% ready for it. We wanted the full power of Poseidon to strike us down with all-powerful waves as we do a Monkey D. Luffy impression for the Facebook likes.

Thanks for sharing this! Having lived in suburban Philadelphia my whole life my family has spent summer vacations in OCNJ, but I had a childhood friend whose family went to OCMD! I always wondered how the towns differed. Now I know!
Also, people in this area have their favorite resorts from their childhood days and tend to be very loyal to returning to the same NJ beach towns throughout their lives. There is a rivalry as to which NJ beach town is the best!
You did fail to point out that OCNJ is a dry town, with no bars or restaurants serving alcohol, so if you want to go out to have a few drinks you need to head over one of those bridge to Sommer’s Point or one of the nearby shore towns like Sea Isle City, Margate, etc.

In Ocean City, MD there are more arcades (both on and off the boardwalk, where Ocean City, NJ only has two arcades on the boardwalk, both of which are iffy with maintenance of their machines; third one is coming back after a fire destroyed it in front of the amusement park but that one will probably be mostly redemption machines instead of arcade machines), more amusement parks (Ocean City, NJ had two, one has permanently shut down after summer 2024 and most likely being replaced with condos), much bigger and cleaner water park, more diverse and numerous stores, and more buffets (Ocean City, NJ has no buffets, you either have to go north to Atlantic City, south to Wildwood, or northwest to Egg Harbor Township).

It might be time to revisit this, as attitudes about transportation are shifting once again. Better public transportation would alleviate the parking situation. Atlantic City still has rail service. In fact, there were trains that went to most of the coastal towns that lie south of Atlantic City. Maybe a light rail network would be practical?

@@jimweir6500 . Lol you don't have to be a big drinker to enjoy OC MD. Just making a point that there are more family friendly, calmer (less craziness) less crowded beach towns to enjoy. And with better sand, better waves. So yeah OC does rule for bar hopping. All day bus pass, and tons of bars up and down. Not my first choice for vacation (and I do go to bars) but I like to experience the commercialism once in awhile. So many people I know take their kids. Not friendly waves at all, and the sand is abrasive!

@@jimweir6500 . Yes I know people drink at their places in OC NJ. But overall, island-wide, the extreme party craziness isn't around. While I'm not as familiar with OC NJ as I am Stone Harbor and Cape May, I find the people much nicer and approachable than in OC MD. Most Maryland people seem more "guarded", the "I don't know you" vibe. Guess it depends on the combo of who we meet to give us our impressions. Also not as familiar with the sand in OC NJ but I find the sand in Stone Harbor light years better than the Md beach
And I'd rather pay a few $ to not be towel to towel with strangers and an overall better class of people.

@@jimweir6500 I agree Jim. Grew up in MD and OC MD was my place as a kid. It was great and never any issues. My wife is from PA and grew up on LBI. Have been going there for over 20 years now, but still mis OC MD. Where I go, too many North Jersey and NY people since they have been priced out of the NY area. Way too many tank tops with NY Yankee barb wire tattoos at the beach bars. There is no boardwalk on LBI, so the lifers say that keeps away the riff raff. LBI is not dry like OCNJ, so you can get a drink or byob to every restaurant. What gets me though, is paying to go to the freakin beach! You need a beach badge and it has to be for the stupid town you are in. Not like there would be a universal badge on LBI so if you wanted to go see friends at other beaches on the island! OCMD..go to the beach for free and go to any patch of it and pay nothing!

I’m going to go with “C” and say that any beach south of Virginia is better than both of them.

Yeah, I live in Maryland but always go to the Carolinas for vacations. But I still enjoy the Delaware/Maryland beaches for a day trip.

Obviously MD is because the town is filled with NJ and NY residents in the summer months
