I wanted to come back to this video and say thank you. My TCM lost communication and all three lights went on. Engine, traction and TPMS so I used my OBDEleven to verify that there was no communication. First thing I noticed is that it wouldn't shift at all. After watching this video, I pulled the seat and base frame, opened the passenger side wiring loom plastic case and EXACTLY where you shower lay three wires separated and apart. I spliced them together and taped it up and re assembled, all codes are gone.
One thing I wanted to point out is that my carpets are very dry on top, but once I pulled the carpet up to look for the wires I was shocked at how much water was being held by the foam underneath. Which also means the drain plugs on both sides and the a/c drain plug all need to be cleaned. Even though I got the car working 100%, there is still the drains to unclog.
Thank you for taking the time to share this fix!

@@pandydiy you saved me $900 for a TCM and most importantly a HUGE mistake in buying it. The wires were my issue not the TCM itself. What's even better is my 2014 TDI is not post dieselgate modified, so it shift nicely and feels strong. I had a 2013 that went thru the emissions recall and the difference is very noticable. When I saw your wiring loom I was thinking "no way I am comfortable slicing all the way up the loom to find that junction." What I didn't realize was that the loom is fully exposed under the carpet and protected by a plastic case. It was much easier than I expected! You are helping a lot of people, and more to come as the cars age and this becomes more prevalent

I clipped the ends then twisted them together and like magic, or the grace of God, my truck was able to shift out of park. I know you saved us thousands. Be careful tho, Audi wants to charge thousands of dollars to locate and solder this wire and you're messing up their money. 😀 Thanks again sir!

The problem was bad resistance where the ECU is connected. TCM was only getting 6 volts. We jumped the fuse using power probe and bam it worked. So now i have to clean all the corrosion out from the box. Stupid design of letting water accumulate anywhere near the ECM and power to components.

When i started the vehicle with shifter knob off i was able to press the brake and it came right out of park no problem. does the vehicle allow you to take it out of park without any power supplied which energizes the system for that purpose? Or the vehicle MUST be started to which power is supplied permitting the vehicle to be taken out of park? somethings not right there maybe its the switch in the assembly i dont hear any click sound or nothing. I use the push start button way to start the vehicle. The shifter knob button doesn't stay pushed out, it stays pushed in for some unknown reason. Thats why i am leaning more towards the shifter knob being faulty/defective and nees changing its got me sorta stumped lol..i can't be over thinking this i dont believe ..

hey. My transmission shifts erratically. I tried using Manual Mode to control the shifting. But still when the car is cold, it could go from M2 to D to M4, then M3. I suspected an issue with TCM. but couldn't figure out what could be the cause until now. So it seems water damage can cause loss of tcm communication with the car. But can water damager or moisture cause the TCM to send wrong instructions to the transmission? I did find a lot of water under my passenger side footwell. Thanks in advance.

It was a pain in the ass because my car is underground in my condo parking so the tow was very tight … but yes specialized mechanic that deal with Audi/volkswagen, they’re fantastic. @jerrywang3590 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hey thanks for the reply. I finally found the corroded wires. Was looking for some thin wires. Took me some time but finally saw them. They were thicker than i expected. The three wires were in some kind of electrical wrap. But not the rubberized type. More like some cloth. I don’t believe it’s water proof. The connection was covered with green paste then dust after I blew dry the wires. When I tried to open up the connection the wires simply broke. After I was done with taking them apart I didn’t find any copper strands left. They were melted away or something. There are two burnt holes on the cloth. I suspect at one point the wires came apart and caused a spark and burned the cloth. I had to strip the wires. Because of that the wires are now shorter than they used to be. I couldn’t splice them together. So much trouble with the fix. But I think I am getting close!
