@@madwolfdrawing the worst part about what Griffith does is how he rationalizes it all. In his mind, he truly did nothing wrong, he did what his soliders would've wanted which shows just how detached he is from normal people. He actually believes when his men said they'd die for his cause that meant being ripped to pieces and raped by demons to death with no chance of survival. Also in the idea of evil chapter he says it's all because 'he wants wings' which is a pretty shitty reason to kill like 100 people then commit a sex crime.
@@fuzzynippleman but all he did was what he initially set out to do, and all of his subordinates knew it from the get go. They are putting their lives on the line for the sake of his dream.
Dictators, cult leaders, capitalists, religious leaders, kings, tv evangelists, oligarchs, mercenaries, spooks, adventurers, explorers, and fascists have all fed followers to demons before ... why would you think the bard and the comedian would be any different when they've expressly sold their talents, writing, charisma, and influence to those other groups before?
So happy to see you covering Berserk again you look stunning in that Griffith cosplay. Those who said Griffith did nothing wrong are probably a member of the god’s hands.
I just wrote a deep essay on Griffith. Griffith was influenced by the God Hand from early age already. The mystic woman who gave the egg of the king to Griffith was actually God Hand member Ubik. Before Griffith used the Egg of the King, he was given manipulative visions by Ubik. I have not studied this super in-depth, because I don't really care about Griffith - altho I can do it if requested. But it actually reminds me of the Napoleon quote from Count of Monte Cristo (2002): "We are all kings or pawns of men." and later: "Kings and pawns, Marshal, Emperors... and fools!" as Edmond Dantes (the fool Napoleon was referring to) was sailing away with a Napoleon's letter which would get him imprisoned for life. So it seems like Griffith was a pawn in a chess board bigger than he could have imagined. It's ironic: Griffith was using his men - Band of the Hawk - as pawns - while he himself was being used as a pawn by the God Hand. Poetic justice? And no - Griffith is not alive after he sells his soul - your soul will literally be dead after you have done something so evil. Isn't that what the Behelit ritual is about - to cut your ties to humanity? I guess what they say is true - Satan is the lord of lies. If you don't stay vigilant and always keep your acts righteous and pure - someone like God Hand Ubik might come and fool you into selling your soul - and your soul dying as a result. Griffith definitely did not put much of an effort to keeping his soul pure.
@Pupper I don't think your soul will die completely. because one of the apostles was getting killed by guts and had the chance to sacrifice his daughter to get even stronger and he couldn't do it.
@@comicbookgirl19 Such as Guts whose charisma is based on his imposed tribal martyr complex, and perception of being an outsider above morality: he was the one in Band of the Hawk who isn't a murder merc because Griffith INSPIRED him to be, he did all on his own. A manga about deeply broken, yet incredibly strong people... a masterpiece of storytelling. thank you Danika for covering this work of art. RIP Miura. Your art endures
I'd be weary of explaining Griffith's actions by using causality as a crutch. This explanation conveniently overlooks the fact the torture of Guts and Casca was completely personal for Griffith. Which is ironic considering this is his first act upon ascending to godhood, when he is meant to have shed all of his humanity. It was tailored for maximum damage on both parties in order to punish them and to regain control, not necessarily because fate demanded it despite how it eventually shapes future events. I think this is a point that Miura labours quite heavily to drive home - that Griffith did everything wrong. Doing right is almost never easy on the individual, he gave in, while Guts struggles on.
This. While the sacrifice of the band of the hawk is within that Machiavellian mentality, what he did to Casca and Guts was clearly personal. And him doing that is ultimately his weakness... when Griffith lets his personal feelings get involved, he fumbles. He did that when Guts left, going to Charlotte immediately as a means of comfort, a slipup that resulted in his capture and torture by the king. Similarly here, he tortured Casca as a means of torturing Guts, but this resulted in two things: 1) it gave Skull Knight enough time to rescue them, and 2) it resulted in * BIG SPOILER* the demon child being born, which then fused with the egg apostle while Griffith was being born again. Griffith, as a result, is fused with the demon child, turning into him whenever a full moon happens. Meaning that Griffith is at the behest of the whims of the moonlight child for that moment. When Griffith takes things personal is when he's at his cruelest, but also when he's at his most emotionally weak and vulnerable

Great video, Berserk, specially the golden arc is one if my favorite series. Looking forward to the next part. One of the most well told part of berserk is the friendship/attraction between Griffith and Guts. Both are lonely people how lacks equals. Guts who has learnt to fend for himself and distrust people, finds someone who he is seeking their approval, to be their equal. While Griffiths sees people around him more as tools for his cause, who first sees Guts as another solider, but eventually someone who makes him loses sight of his goals. Following Miura's passing, his best friend and fellow mangaka has taken over the project, with him directing it as per what Miura told him about his plans for it and with Miura's trained assistants doing the art. He has promised to not veer off from what the author shared with him even if that means the story and the characters won't be quite as fleshed out as originally intended. We have already had a couple of chapters done under this team up. I am happy I will get to see what Miura's overall vision for this series was, but you can feel it misses his touch in all aspects, but most obviously the art. Still I am thankful for the team for taking this on and I am sure they are all doing their best.
I just love this manga, it is my favourite piece of fiction. The careful psychological profiling of Griffith and Guts, the use of Jungian psychology, it's themes of struggle against all odds and the renunciation of extreme rationalism and utilitarianism in decision making in favour of "doing the right thing", the refusal to shy away from concepts such as sexual abuse and child SA and making it integral to its characters, the exploration of the plight of women in the form of Casca (not to mention having a female protag of colour in the 80s), the cosmogony, the Eastern philosophies, the pseudo-medieval setting and Miura's amazing art just speak to me. I think it is very telling when a woman in her late twenties such as myself finds herself identifying with Guts the most out of the plethora of fictional characters I have been exposed to over my life.
The Akira manga is amazing and blows the movie away. They tried and failed to shove all that plot into a single movie. The manga panels and art in the manga are some of the best art in manga, the 80s were a magical time. TLDR read the Akira Manga

I'm currently writing a comic that hits on the free will versus fate same side of the coin. I love this video so much and it makes me wanna collect berserk, I didn't realize how similar it was in theme. Great stuff!!
For anyone interested in watching the movie trilogy. Watch the recently released version "Golden age arc Memorial Edition" instead. The trilogy recut into a 13ep show with technical improvements to the CG and additional scenes not included in the initial movie format release. One of these scenes adapted for the 1st time, "wounds" for those who've read the manga, intense character scene for Guts and Casca. There are other extended scenes like the ending, "bonfire of dreams" and an additional tavern scene between Judeau and Guts.
I don't know how but for some reason you always seem to cover my favorite things. Berserk and Dune are some of my favorite IPs and Akira is one of my favorite movies. Everything you announce makes me go, "Fuck yes!" Its really crazy.
Griffith/Femto is not helping Guts and Casca. It is their child who is doing so and Femto has no say in the matter. In order to inhabit the Physical Realm again he gains an incarnated form, his new body being forged within the Egg Apostle who also took in the corrupted foetus which was the child of Guts and Casca. A child who had until that point protected his parents at his own peril. Both Femto and the foetus are reborn inhabiting the same body, this rebirth essentially removing the corruption from the child. But the Moonlight Boy is strong enough to gain control of this body only on nights of the full moon (hence his name), when we are told that the membrane separating the physical plane from the astral plane is especially thin. At any other time, Griffith is in the driver's seat, but on these nights he is along for the ride - and the fact he shares a body with the exact child who has thus far risked his own life to protect his parents will be his undoing.
Great video Danika! I stopped reading Berserk after a few volumes. Watching this made me realize I hadn't gotten to the good stuff. I will start reading it again.
Oh wow I would love it if you do start a podcast. You have so much deep knowledge on these subjects and would love to listen to more. Really miss mystic Mondays bought all the books you showed/ recommended
hnnnngh, what a pleasure to hear about the themes and plot of Berserk in this channel, Casca is by far one of my top female characters of all time and for her to regain part of her sanity before the author passed was... I don't know, it's a difficult feeling to put into words.
Hey Danika, just wanted to say 3 things: 1. Thank you for getting me into Dune. 2. Take all the time you need, to make what you want. I've watched your content long enough to know you never half ass the things you're interested in talking about. 3. Griffith did everything wrong. You made a good case, but the man literally had everything he wanted in the palm of his hand. All he had to do was wait for the king to die of old age. Instead, he got into a mood because Guts won his freedom in a duel. Kinda weird how he changed the world so that the only safe place for humans was Falconia. He wants everyone to live in his personal bird cage.
@@comicbookgirl19 Homie Skullknight had a behelit blade that could slice through space time. It was that very weapon that killed Ganishka. Griffith just parried it and took all the credit.
Love video I definitely enjoy the themes in the series berserk it really is a testament asking questions and leaving me to the audience to really think for themselves.
Farnese is by far my favorite character aside from Guts, Shierke, Casca. She truly had the best character development. Especially her religious background and fall from, i can relate so much.
I would really love to see a video on gantz in the future from you you know after your you know finished with your movie and everything else that you also explore other manga on the channel as well series. From your perspective on as you dive deep into every single series a deeper look.
Also like all-round stoic philosophy in this manga, it basically say don't be like Guts or Griffith, don't let anger and hate consume you(inner demon) and don't feed him and on other hand don't chase something you don't have but enjoy for what you do have in this moment.
I remember discovering Berserk through the 90s anime and then buying every volume as it was released. I think the Mozgus arc was it's greatest chapters. The atmosphere, the characters, it's pacing were all fantastic.
So, the argument of if Griffith did something wrong or not hinges on whether or not you believe in fate. My interpretation of the story so far is that fate is a lie and therefore Griffith is bad/wrong for his actions. "Fate" in the story is giving up your personal agency to a "higher power". The band of the hawk members put their fate in Griffiths hands and it got them killed. Griffith put his in the God hand and is now a demon like them. Griffith uses the excuse of fate for his machiavellian actions. Demons want humans to believe in fate as it takes away human agency and makes them believe they are helpless against it. Griffith, at his weakest and lowest moment, chose NOT to struggle and accept the lie of fate as an easy out. He could have rallied the band of the hawk again and started over, even as his members wanted. Instead he chose the shortcut of accepting demon power and losing his friends and humanity under the guise of fate. Guts, the struggler, doesn't believe or accept fate as an out or excuse for his life and actions and is a representative of humanity and our struggle to better ourselves. Basically, I think the story is pro-freedom of choice and anti-fate. There's a lot of other examples to consider and reflect on in the story like the internal struggle with the beast. He fights against it and it is inherent to him (fate?). But will he give in or fight to the end? These are just some scattered thoughts I'm jotting down on my lunch break but could definitely be expanded upon.
I discovered Berserk in 2016, and I can't believe the how many times it brought me down a rabbit hole of philosophies, and the idea of evil. It's so fascinating.
Welp since I was the first to post and that's literally never happened before C.B.G you are and inspiring down to earth sexy goddess and I'm happy for your success in your professional and what looks like and I hope personal life thank u take care
Saying that Griffith did nothing wrong is the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard. He’s killed most of the people on the planet, saving only one city, if you live outside of Falconia you’re not going to last long, you’ll be dragged away by trolls or some other beast. He’s manipulated the entire world to put everything under his control, but yea he did nothing wrong haha.
in our society today tho. The end never justifies the means. To 99% of the population everything he did is not justified. Basically if you can't see yourself doing anything he did because you think it's a horrific act. Then obviously he was wrong. Griffith is basically all of the dark triad I'd argue. Aka is basically the worst person someone can be.
I think the count’s final choice to not do something at his end while already a demon for longer then griff was to show that the demons arnt completely taken over/changed by what ever astral force changes/empowers them
I've always enjoyed Berserk. It reminds me of the that one time in my youth when I doomed and sacrificed the entirety of my High School to be torn apart and eaten by demons, just so I could get the very first I-POD Touch.
The Moonlight boy is the Fetus that used to torment guts, transformed after the sacrifice for the new world. He is Guts and Caska's unborn son, tainted by Griffith's demonic seed. He became something else after the merge of fabrics. And... he might be the key to defeat Griffith.
So weird.., every time you talk about a new interest, I seem to be checking out the same…… bizarre I’ve been checking out berserker , over the last year … it’s pretty bitchin! Just a lot of information to study ! I got into this series after reading Hellraiser Comics on TH-cam… the cenobites may have had influenced The God 🤚🏼 Hand
Too funny I just watched a video of Alan Watts speech about morality Yesterday and you quoted it today. I heard something similar from AOT when they were talking about the difference between a good person and a bad person and how it all depends on the perspective of the situation. There's definitely something freeing about that for me, especially being raised in a extremely conservative/religious background I carry around a lot of guilt about any and every "bad thing" I do.

wow u look amazing !!!!!thank u 4 ANY content u throw on TH-cam
The Call to Banners gave me chills, in a good way😻💓

Brawk gave the best breakdown of Guts life I’ve heard yet.
Gurl! Your Cosplay is on POINT! Good job queen!
I'm now bingewatching some of the previous videos that I missed! There's a lot! Let's gooooooo!
Looking forward to the documentary!
Oh can’t wait to listen to this video, I loved your last video.
Machiavelli's The Prince was a parody made to make fun of the amoral people who put him in prison.
I don't know how but for some reason you always seem to cover my favorite things. Berserk and Dune are some of my favorite IPs and Akira is one of my favorite movies. Everything you announce makes me go, "Fuck yes!" Its really crazy.
Jesus i just posted "Griffith did nothing wrong" as a shitpost, but she's over here making me think about the grander scale of shitposting
😂😂😂
This is so epic omg, thank you, thank you, thank you, Master DanikaXIX
Did you watch the memorial edition of Berserk? They added one very pivotal scene (not the bonfire of dreams but that was added too)
You got this girl!!!!! ❤❤❤❤ We SUPPORT COMIC BOOK GIRL!!!!!!
Thank yewwwwwwwwww
For some reason you haven't shown up in my subs in years. I Haven't heard that intro music in a long time. Made me excited.
The algorithm can be unkind. Make sure to turn them notifications ON otherwise it’s real dicey
@@comicbookgirl19 that damned algorithm. You must have forgotten your monthly sacrifices to the machine god caged beneath silicon valley.
I can't wait for your Akira documentary!!
I'm on board for anything you produce. Long time fan and book clubber
Thank you darling!
I don't know, it's a difficult feeling to put into words.
i am neither beautiful or a baby, but i love you, and it brings me great joy to see you are still at it ;)
Hey Danika, just wanted to say 3 things:
He totally did get into a MOOD 😂 but also…could he have defeated Ganishka’s invasion without apostlehood???
@@comicbookgirl19 Homie Skullknight had a behelit blade that could slice through space time. It was that very weapon that killed Ganishka. Griffith just parried it and took all the credit.
Once again you knocked it out of the park 😊. Awesome job and amazing video.
Thank you darling
Love video
I definitely enjoy the themes in the series berserk it really is a testament asking questions and leaving me to the audience to really think for themselves.
I loved you in “Amadeus”
Man I haven't watched a CBG19 video in over a year. I think the last thing I watched was one of the Dune Club early videos
Welcome home bb
@@comicbookgirl19 it feels good to be home 💚
Fuck yeah to this documentary! You have the support of this house my liege! ❤
✨⚔️✨
Good luck with the Doc! Ima checkout the kickstarter now
What I’ve been waiting for
Farnese is by far my favorite character aside from Guts, Shierke, Casca. She truly had the best character development. Especially her religious background and fall from, i can relate so much.
Farnese has come so far as a character. She’s great!
I would really love to see a video on gantz in the future from you you know after your you know finished with your movie and everything else that you also explore other manga on the channel as well series. From your perspective on as you dive deep into every single series a deeper look.
Great analysis, really digging your anime content phase been a fan since 2013. Cant wait for the Akira to drop too😃
Oh how I have dreamed of this day! Berserk, to me, is the greatest story I have ever read. Thank you so much for taking the time to review the manga.
Your costumes and fashion for your videos are great. Well done.
I love the hair, the outfit is so on point I’m really excited to hear your opinion I have been a huge fan of Berserk for years
Great video! Berserk is my favorite story of all time.
"There is only evil, so be evil then call it the greater good."-Machiavelli probably and definitely most all modern politicians
You just gotta spin it and target people who aren't equipped with critical thinking skills.
Yesssss. So down for this series! Hope it does well, you go comicbookgirl!
Also like all-round stoic philosophy in this manga, it basically say don't be like Guts or Griffith, don't let anger and hate consume you(inner demon) and don't feed him and on other hand don't chase something you don't have but enjoy for what you do have in this moment.
13:47 picture worth a thousand words, and that one says the one in the right is in charge, classic
I remember discovering Berserk through the 90s anime and then buying every volume as it was released. I think the Mozgus arc was it's greatest chapters. The atmosphere, the characters, it's pacing were all fantastic.
Welp, after this, off to listen to Brand of Sacrifice at full volume. "WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE!!!"
good luck on your endeavor.
"Dancing is the best revenge" - !!!
Gonna have to dance to this after this video, thanks Danika!
Your content is always so entertaining and insightful! I truly enjoy it and I'm looking forward greatly to the Documentary!
So glad your doing this series!
My introduction was the movies and honestly I really really enjoyed them. The CGI didn’t bother me
Oh gods, you are amazing!
It was awesome to hear your thoughts on my favorite manga!! Wish you all the best on the documentary!
So excited to listen to this!
I can't believe you included that Daddy Donovan panel in the video 🤣
Omg. I only just started reading this for the first time and I check in on Mommy and look what she’s doing!!
Awesome job Danika please keep going.
How did i missed this??😢😢
in our society today tho. The end never justifies the means. To 99% of the population everything he did is not justified. Basically if you can't see yourself doing anything he did because you think it's a horrific act. Then obviously he was wrong. Griffith is basically all of the dark triad I'd argue. Aka is basically the worst person someone can be.
The outfit . . . *chef kiss*
Danika is really rocking the Griffith look!
The Moonlight boy is the Fetus that used to torment guts, transformed after the sacrifice for the new world. He is Guts and Caska's unborn son, tainted by Griffith's demonic seed. He became something else after the merge of fabrics. And... he might be the key to defeat Griffith.
Damn this video popped off! 42k in 8 months?! Long Live CBG!!
I feel like this is gonna be "wait till im home in front of the tv on the couch with the dogo to watch" good.
#synchronicity ✨ The Godhand is 💯 influence by the Cenobites
Too funny I just watched a video of Alan Watts speech about morality Yesterday and you quoted it today.
I heard something similar from AOT when they were talking about the difference between a good person and a bad person and how it all depends on the perspective of the situation. There's definitely something freeing about that for me, especially being raised in a extremely conservative/religious background I carry around a lot of guilt about any and every "bad thing" I do.
fantastic as always!
