    I do so wish I’d found this a few weeks ago. This has been so helpful! Thank you, Angela. I think this video is the best support spindle tutorial on the internet. It’s incredibly difficult to learn what you might be doing wrong from someone who is spinning fluidly, and professionally. I really appreciated the “ways things go wrong” section at the end.

    Loved this video. I own 5 spinning wheels and too many drop spindles to count, but recently wanted to get into a supported spindle after seeing them on instagram. Thank you for being so personable and for teaching on a level that can be related to and easy to understand. Sometimes when a teacher is too experienced they forget how difficult it can be for someone new to get started. 🥰

    I hope this makes you smile!
    I am teaching myself to spindle spin (well attempting to, anyway) with the help of several lovely TH-camrs. I have acquired 4 different spindles and am trying each one out, to see how I get on with each type of spinning. Yesterday it was the turn of a support spindle, I had watched your video the day before and thought I remembered the technique. Several frustrating (and thoroughly exasperating) attempts later, I was still unable to actually start the process off; so, l thought I’d better watch the video again and see where I was going wrong. You had just started your introduction and lo and behold the bit of fluff stayed put for the first time, I was able to spin a leader and finally got going! The fibre obviously just needed to hear the voice of authority before it gave in!

    Wonderful Video! I have been seriously considering a support spindle because holding my arms up using a drop spindle or a Turkish spindle is becoming really bothersome as I'm getting older (why I use an e-spinner too). Thank you so much for this video. I’ve had a support spindle 4 years but could never make it work. I was planning to get rid of it but decided to give it one more go. After watching your video, I finally spun! I was making many of the mistakes you showed. The only mistake I made that you didn’t cover was preparing the leader with Z twist and then taking it all out when starting to spin! I have watched several videos of how to spin supported, and got a thorough book, but your video of the mistakes beginners make is the one that worked to get me started. Thank you soooooo much.

    Have you tried using a leader string? I started with one and it makes that first little bit of spinning a bit smoother. You just tie a string under your spindle whirl and then on top of your whirl, then spin it around the stick all the way to the top and then do like you do with the fiber. You don't waste any and it's much more secure. And you also have much more room to fill up your spindle.

    • @YarnNYarns

      Thank you. I’ve not tried with a leader for my support spindles but I will definitely give it a try 🧡😃

    Thank you for your thorough presentation...I just bought a supported spindle...now I am getting the hang of it slowly slowly but at first, I could not spin the spindle without the single coming off!!! And also when the yarn is held above the spinning spindle, iboth are spinning in the same plane so it seems odd at first, to have the movement sl.close together, if you see what I mean!!!
    Thank you!!

    What do I wrong? I can not pull out continously thin fibers out of the rolag, it gets always thicker and then I have to stop and pull the fibers with both hands apart. Something I did not understand yet. Am I holding the rolag too strong or too light or something else is the problem?
    I like supported spinning and I think, that is what I could do, but something does not work as it should. Could you please have and idea, what am I doing wrong? Your video helps me already much, but this question remains still open.

  • @loyannmunyan1174

    Being left handed would I go counter clock wise as I would be holding the wool in my right hand

    • @resourcedragon
      @resourcedragon 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lefty here: I spin right handed on a spinning wheel (mostly). That said, I'm thinking of getting a supported spindle and trying that. Getting the spindle going with my left hand would lead to the spindle turning in an anti-clockwise direction (at least the way I flick my thumb & finger). So yes, I think you would go anti-clockwise. I also think you might end up with yarn with an S twist, rather than a Z twist.
