    Your demonstrations of how you pre draft to spin from the fold and make joins were very helpful to me, thank you!

    I understand what you mean about spinning the spindles! Yes! Love to watch them spin! So satisfying..something only a spinner can relate to! 😂 I am right handed but spin my spindles with my left hand and draft with my right. Feels more comfortable for me. Also I make my own spindles and prefer a medium to heavy weight..creating a sort of better stability and longer spin! I’m so happy I’ve learned about support spindling! Thank you for sharing your spindles and techniques with all of us! I appreciate and enjoy your podcast!😃🥰

    Hi Ange, I also spin Top over the finger but then slip my finger out. The other way I spin Top with a support spindle is to pull a few inches off the Top, spread it out and roll it roughly into a rolag, that works really well. Another idea for a spinning bowl is an egg cup or spoon. Great video with lots of information to get people inspired to try support spindles

      Ooh that you so much for your kind comment and for the sharing of your knowledge too. I hadn’t thought to try a spoon as a spinning bowl, and making a mini rolag sounds like a great way to spin top on a support spindle I’ll definitely be giving it a try soon 🧡

    Your video is so very helpful for this brand new support spindler. Your demonstration of fiber prep and how each prep behaves while drafting helped me to finally understand what the fiber wants to do with each prep, and why I've been getting a twist locked mess. Also, how to get your drafted single to be stable is going to change my entire spindling experience. My yarn keeps pulling apart and I had no idea why or how to keep that from happening. Thanks to your suggestion I visited my thrift store and found the perfect bowl for my spindle, in the form of a star shaped candle holder. The glass cylinder that holds the candle in the middle of the star makes my spindle twirl effortlessly. All for 50 cents. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge, and for discussing what was happening in real time as you spun. I am ready to give my spindle another go! harpingJanet

    I’ve just gotten my first support spindle- I have wheels that I know how to use and a drop spindle that has frustrated me multiple times over the years, but I’m finally getting it and wanting to try out different types of spindles. I love the idea of being able to travel easily with a spinning project. This video was super informative! I’ve watched it and your video on getting started, and I’m now ready to try out my new spindle! Thanks so much!

    Wow - lightbulb moments there for me. As with everything I suppose, preparation is key - think that's what has let me down in the past with spindle spinning - trying to spin straight from combed top. Maybe I should have a go with the next fibre club rolags...

    nice intro. For your lapboard finish you might try rubbing some mineral oil, olive oil, or walnut oil into dull spots to perk it back up, whatever is handy. Start on bottom three must be scuffs there.

    Great video, thanks. I’ve been spinning for a few years but mainly on a wheel with a little bit on support spinning. My current favourite combination is a support Trindle I got from Etsy, a lap bowl from Kerry which actually suits me best and some vicuña down. I like light fast taklis and Russian spindles because I like to spin lace. It’s so relaxing.

    Hi Ange - that was a great video. Very informative and helpful for anyone new to supported spindle spinning. The spindles are very addictive, aren't they? Thank you! This was so fun! I very much enjoy the spindle shop spindles in Australia. I think I have four of them now. And I have others 😊. I’m struggling a bit with storage or carry along storage. When I have a bowl with me and I also have a bobbin to wind off on I’m so scared they’re going to scratch my spindle. What are some nifty tricks you might have? Thanks again this was awesome! Never get tired of learning about support spindles.

    • @YarnNYarns
      @YarnNYarns  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for watching Deborah. It sounds like you have a lovely collection of spindles . I hope to be able to get another spindle or two from the spindle shop in time as they are so beautifully made.
      As for transporting my spindles if I have a knitting project with me I’ll often just add my spindle, bowl and fibre to my project bag as the project and yarn helps to keep them protected. If not I often keep them in a small tin of box and wrap the spindle and bowl in the fibre to keep them protected or a layer of two of bubble wrap. Hope that helps xx

    Very timely and helpful video - thank you! I've fallen in love with supported spinning, although I'm still really a beginner. I've found that tightly rolled rolags need to be really loosened up before I get going on long draw. And I still struggle with getting enough twist into my fibre to find that "sweet spot" for long draw.
