    The 15” model panel can have the more common LG panel or the less common AUO. The latter overclocks to 100hz via CRU.
    Both are in the 60%sRGB range and clearly inferior to this panel on the 17” unit.
    That’s typical but rarely covered.
    Thanks for the thorough review here! Ive been wanting to know more about the 17 inch model :-)

      replacing the screen would help a lot, but for someone who's not willing to shell out another $100 like me, try doing a windows calibrate display color, it helped improved it somewhat.

      Makes no sense why they would put such an inferior screen panel in the 15" model. I'm sure we'd all happily pay the $40 or so extra to get a more decent screen.

      I would go for the VERY LEAST a GTX1060 the 144hz display is overkill for it though as the 1060 is good for 70-80fps... If you want the full capabilities of 144hz you need at least a 1070 which is beyond your budget.
      If you can get the Late 2017 Chassis on SALE go for it! you lose RGB but you can get a sweet spec system by going for the older chassis which IMO looks pretty good anyway.

    Subscribed bro!!! You are helping budget gaming laptop hunter like me more information before making a purchase. Just a quick question, Its been around 14 days since you uploaded the video but would you kindly tell me how the laptop is working in terms of overheat? Is it worth buying for long term use (At least 3 Years)? And last question, based on your experience, do you think the battery will last long for at least 1.5 years (Considering if the laptop overheats)?

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, and welcome to the channel! Unfortunately I've already sent the laptop back after the review, I only get to keep them for 2-3 weeks to make the videos, so I can't do long term testing, but I can't see why there would be any difference after just a few weeks. I can't see why it wouldn't last years, both in terms of battery and general use. Overheating isn't that big of an issue anyway, it will just throttle back if there are serious problems, and I didn't notice any thermal throttling at all here.

I am hearing a lot of overheat concerns but I just wanted your opinion on it as well. If I purchase it and play games on mid to low settings would I be able to last on this laptop for 2 years? and can you suggest any overheat solutions on this laptop?

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't have any serious thermal issues, I have a few minutes covering that in the video though, the temperatures seem alright for me, no hotter than pretty much any other 8750H laptop - it's just a hot CPU by nature, but improvements can be made as shown, solutions would include undervolting. I would expect it to be perfectly fine for a few years easily, of course depends what you're using it for, eg AAA gaming you might want a 1060 or above.

      it's decent for the price
      1 decent screen, my previous laptop at this price segment had a terrible TN panel
      2 Decent cooling, undervolted CPU+GPU never throttle in games
      3 good speakers sound
      4 good battery life considering the small battery size
      5 Not too loud at maximum load
      My main complaints are
      1 there is no larger battery option
      2 would prefer it to be a little lighter considering the competition, also screen bezels are huge
      3 I'd prefer the HDMI port to work via Intel HD graphics, because it working via Nvidia causes lots of problems when you connect external screen while the laptop is on
      4 extremely poor fan control, the fans can be loud even at light loads on CPU is in the lower 50-s which is 100% safe, and should be a little faster during maximum loads, the cooling profiles in Dell Power manager do nothing but change the power limits.

    At the risk of sounding nitpicky, I much prefer the "smaller arrow keys" than what other laptop makers do with them, like making the left and right keys normal size while the up and down keys are still just as small; or letting the arrow keys eat into numpad space just to keep them full size.
    Dell could've placed the arrow keys lower like on the Alienware laptops, but then people complain the keyboard looks odd. At least on the G3 and other Dells, the arrow keys are uniformly small and you have a flush keyboard as a result.

    Hi Jarrod, I'm a proud G3 3779 i7 1060MQ owner, I use it as my main computer, for gaming in World of Tanks and doing some 3D animation for practice or the occasional freelance job. I haven't repasted it yet, but I used XTU to undervolt it at -0.135v. I noticed that under the XTU stress test I get the i7 to run at 3.88 ghz, temps of 67-74 C and TDP between 34-42 W, which I think is very good; but rendering in Maya-Arnold, I only get it to run around 3.25 ghz at 75 C and then it activates Power Limit Throttling at 45 W TDP.
    Is it possible to improve this performance? I read about other 8750H notebooks that get around 3.5 ghz with Prime95, for example.
    Great channel! I just suscribed :)

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm if you're power limit throttling under that workload undervolting the CPU would be the only thing that would help that further, but if you've already got that done with Maya running there's nothing else you can do - I don't think you can boost the power limit in XTU, but worth a try.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah 3.1GHz is the all core turbo speed of the 7300HQ. Intel only list the single core turbo speeds on their website, so 3.5GHz would be the highest to expect if 1 core is doing work, 2 cores it's 3.3GHz, but for 3 or 4 cores in use it will be 3.1GHz all core turbo boost.

  • @Leo-dt5ln
    @Leo-dt5ln 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a G3 15 inch with 8300H+1050ti, 8 GB ram. The ram capacity will bottleneck the performance most definitely, as adding ram to 16GB eliminates all stutters and frame drops in Battlefield 1, and I'm able to maintain 60 FPS fairly easily at 130% resolution scaling, low settings except mesh. My model has an AUO panel. The colour and contrast suck to say the least, but the ability to overclock it helps my gaming tremendously. I overclocked it to 96Hz and no issue is present. The battery lasts 6 hours for me when doing regular document-editing tasks, with battery-saving on and screen 60%~ brightness. The low profile of this laptop prevents me from having weird glances when working in libraries/schools. Overall, I would say this is a decent pick for the price. The performance is great both for gaming and studying/working, the only drawback is the screen quality. But the overclockable AUO panel actually works pretty well for my purpose, all up to you though.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's probably the difference going from single channel to dual channel rather than the change in total RAM size. Sounds like you got lucky with the AUO panel! Good to hear it's improving things 👍

Anyway, MSI laptops are generally priced well and usually have 120Hz screens, however at this price point they're usually TN, so not a major issue you just have to look front on due to changing viewing angles (probably how you'd use the laptop anyway!)

      It should be fine indefinitely, after 20-30 mins of load you'll hit full heat saturation, at that point all the metal will be as hot as it will get so any extra time won't make a difference. Just play your games and enjoy them, if it gets too hot it will throttle back performance as needed.

Undervolting to -0.150V reduces CPU temps from 100 Degree to 90 Degrees only. Disabling Turbo Boost Drops the temps to 80 Degrees. Disabling Turbo Boost + undervolting reduces CPU Temps to 70-75 Degrees but looses on performance. I dont wish to reapply thermal paste or try liquid cooling as it's a brand new laptop. Turbo Boost on this laptop only throttles at reaching 100 Degree C. I feel 90-100 degrees temps continuous are bad for hardware life. The keyboard gets very hot. Hopefully someone here has the same rig and can help me out. Note: The laptop crashed at -0.170V undervolt.

      I'd have no issues running at 90c, sounds like a decent improvement. If you don't want to look into changing the paste, the only other thing you can try is raising the laptop up off the flat surface, like with a cooling pad + fan, or otherwise lowering the room temperature somehow (eg air conditioning).

      You can use Intel XTU or throttlestop to lower the core voltage offset. I want to do a video explaining this in the future, but there are other guides available. Basically you lower the value, run stress tests to check for stability, if there are issues it may reboot / BSOD / apps may crash, then you just have to lower the value closer to 0 and try again, repeat until a stable point is found that improves performance/cooling depending on what your goal is.
