For you August owners out there, how much battery life are you seeing? I got about 2.5 months with the first set. Also, how do you like it? Do you wish you picked something else or have you changed/upgraded to another lock?
It's been working great so far. Battery life was a little shorter than I expected but I'll see what I get with rechargeables instead of the alkalines that came with it.
Fitting smart locks is on my list of improvements for this year. Thanks for a great review Rey. Congratulations on breaking the 500 subscribers barrier.
Thank you Steve! Couldn’t hit the 500 subscriber milestone without subscribers like yourself. THANK YOU for the support! One thing great about smart locks for HomeKit users is that we have options. Good luck on you home improvements this year!
Great video, thanks for the information! I'm looking to buy a smart lock and narrowed it down to the Kwikset and August. I think your video pushed me to go with the August. I like how from the other side it doesn't look like a smart lock. Now I just need to decide if I spend extra on the 3rd generation.
Thanks for watching! If you’d like to be able to check status on the door since it can show as locked but maybe the door wasn’t fully closed, the sensor with the 3rd gen will tell you that. BUT, with the low price of gen 2, I don’t think that functionality is worth the extra $100+. A different HomeKit door sensor can be added for much less to the 2nd gen.
I know what you mean, when we got our first house a little over a year ago, I had to restrain myself from buying a bunch of smart home stuff since we were still in escrow and they tell you not to make any sizable purchases. Congrats on the new house, thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
Quick question, do you need August’s WiFi hub to enable the HomeKit feature? Ik this lock only has the Bluetooth connection, but I’ve got AppleTV(4th gen) at my house and wondering if the Apple TV can be used as a hub. Cuz August’s hub isn’t quite cheap (I don’t live in America) here...
Hi Summer, if you check a previous video in my feed, I have a possible solution to convert an existing opener to a HomeKit compatible one. That being said, if your house is being built, or if there are no openers pre-installed, I'd recommend any of the MyQ compatible openers from Chamberlain or LiftMaster. Thanks for watching!
No need for the Connect as I already have a HomePod acting as the HomeKit hub for remote access. An Apple TV (4th gen or 4K) or an iPad can also be used as a hub.
Fernando Huitron Without a HomeKit hub you won’t be able to access the lock remotely through the Home app or Siri. A Connect may let you access the lock remotely via the native August app.
@@ReyG_HKSH So a Home Pod will do the trick and allow me to connect remotely from anywhere? I'm kind of new into this cause I'm in Mexico and the HomePod will launch here next week so I'm planning to get one anyways so I just wanted to know.
I noticed a lot of variation in the volume in this video and the image was not always in focus. I hope you can resolve this for your future videos, if you haven't already.
Another great video Rey! I’ve been debating which lock to go with. Do you find this lock to be clunky? Also, it seems like it grinds metal on metal when turning. Thoughts?
Thank you Brad! I think the level of “clunkiness” will depend on your existing deadbolt. The August is essentially just a motor to drive the existing locking mechanism. So if your current deadbolt grinds now, it may be emphasized with the August because your hand won’t be manually turning the lock and dampening the sound. It’s a solid smart lock and I have no qualms recommending one.
I see you have motion sensors in your HomeKit, can you do a video on your favorite motion sensors and how they work? I am looking to add some, but there’s not many reviews.
Hi, the only motion sensors I have at the moment are the ones for my Ecobees and cameras. I'm still looking for a worthwhile motion sensor and when I find it, I'll be sure to do a review. Thanks for watching!
Hey Rey if I don't own a HomePod can I still lock and unlock the August lock from anywhere in the world? Or how does that work? Do I need a bridge? Also same question for the Schlage lock. Thanks and great vid boo!
Thanks for watching! Garage door because there have been many a time when I leave home, close the garage, get a few miles down the road and wonder if I locked it. Also, getting home, emptying the trunk of groceries and fumbling to find house keys got to be a hassle. Hands full, ask Siri on Apple Watch to unlock the door and I'm in.
$89.00 shipped !!! Man Rey, where do you live ?.. Great video, want to get one after I viewed you video, but I live in Ontario Canada, and checking them out on Amazon.ca, they are around $300.00 - Ugh....
Robert, I got this in the U.S. via eBay for $87 US. You might be able to find it on eBay and ship it to Canada for less than $300 Canadian. If you decide to go that route, be sure to buy from a reputable seller. Thanks for watching!

Just waiting for mine to be delivered so I will be installing it next week! How have you found it so far??
It's been working great so far. Battery life was a little shorter than I expected but I'll see what I get with rechargeables instead of the alkalines that came with it.
I am enjoying mine so far!! So easy to install as well. Great product :)
I love how low-key this lock is!

Love the videos man! Purchasing our first house and this makes me even more excited! Keep up the great work!

Really cool. Not a big fan of the look of the lock, but the functionality is amazing. You made installation look so easy.
Thanks for watching. The lock does look huge initially but I’ve quickly gotten used to it ;)
Well done video Rey, Thanks
Thank you for watching and taking the time to check comment!
Thank you for your video, it is so wonderful!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave such a nice compliment 😊

You don’t need August’s hub the Apple TV will act as a Home hub for remote access through HomeKit. None of this stuff is cheap 😉
Great Video , did we hear you say that you have a smart garage door opener? can you please recommend one for a new home buyer .
Hi Summer, if you check a previous video in my feed, I have a possible solution to convert an existing opener to a HomeKit compatible one. Did you also get the August connect for remote access? Or can you get HomeKit access without it?
No need for the Connect as I already have a HomePod acting as the HomeKit hub for remote access. An Apple TV (4th gen or 4K) or an iPad can also be used as a hub.
Finally someone has confirmed this. I've been searching for this answer for hours...
@@ReyG_HKSH Ok so....if I don't own a Homepod or and Apple TV I have to have the Connect obligatory?

Thanks for your feedback. Every video is a work in progress and I'll continue to try and improve with each one.
hello I have a question to work with homekit from anywhere in the world do I need an appletv?
Yes, you will need a Home hub. That can be an AppleTV, HomePod or iPad. Thanks for watching!
Thank you great job.......

With the Gen 2, whenever you unlock the door manually either by hand or key, does the HomeKit give you a notification?
Yes, HomeKit will give you a notification of lock status regardless of how it’s changed. You can configure notifications in the Home app.
Do you have problems when the weather turns cold?
Michael Kleinberg Have had no problems since I installed it, but to be fair, I’m in California and it doesn’t get very cold here.

you'd need the bridge
Kamusta na. Mahirap bang install yan Tol?
Very easy install bro, if you can use a screwdriver, you can install this! Salamat for watching!

Wish they do somthing like that for meteric doors “Europe”
I am a little upset but my lock did not calibrate. And it wont let me go back so what do i do.
Does the lock turn freely when both closing and opening? Have you tried resetting and starting over?
How do u unlock that lock when it’s dead
With a key 🔑
These locks are a huge pain and no battery life - always needing to fix it
dude turn down ur intro music or turn up your mic, the sound difference is deafening
dude your intro music blew my ears off...dislike
