@@88omarz it works perfectly fine! I’ve only changed the batteries twice since that comment 3 years ago. For some reason my version won’t work with Google. (This one came out before I Google bought Nest I believe but not sure) it works with my Apple home kit just find tho.
great video very informative, I agree about the auto expiring pass codes I am a locksmith and am going to sell these to air bnb's, perfect feature for that. I bet they will add it in the future.
Thanks for this video. I'm concerned that if a family member loses their phone, then anyone could enter our home. I'm uncomfortable with wifi, z-wave security, I guess. Are these concerns unfounded?
Great review! Thank you. Does the app show the AA battery strength? Would be nice if the app showed that, so you know when to get ready for a battery change, vs having the unit die without warning. Better yet, if the app would warn when the batteries are at 10%, that would make it a stronger buy in my opinion
The 9v battery backup is a bizarre but creative solution. I’m not thrilled about the idea of telling someone who asks “can I just use the key if the smart lock doesn’t work?“… No, you need a 9 V battery.... HomeKit support is great for automation, but I would sooner have the Z wave support so that it can integrate with the Ring alarm system. Really a shame that they took a route to prevent you from ever having both. The palming gesture that is required to wake the touch pad is bizarre. Then lastly, there is no proximity unlock ability. This is the number one feature I want from a smart lock.
Actually this is great for renters! Or at least the Nest one. Short-term renters only need to remember the door code and it expires when they are scheduled to leave so you don’t have to worry about a former renter coming back with their old code. Also, you can see who and at what time uses the code you’ve given them. I really want to put one on my own door but it has 8 deadbolts, initiated from a single lock. I don’t know if Yale has one that works with doors like this.
Yes, you just need to connect it to Apple HomeKit and then set a domestic hub. You can use you iPad, Apple TV or HomePod to do so. If you don’t set a hub you won’t be able to lock and unlock when away from it, so you won’t be able if you correctly locked the door once you get at office for example. Not setting a hub will get this device ready to work only when near to it. Hope everything is clear
I like the 'August Smart Lock Pro' way better. One (1) of the features that August Smart Lock Pro has is the 'Auto Unlock' feature that will automatically unlock the door when you're in range of the lock (about 10' feet away) from the door. This is great for when you have your hands full of things and you don't want to set everything down on the sidewalk to mess with the Keypad, or get your phone out of your pocket to unlock the door with your phone app. With August - you just start walking towards the door and you'll hear a Jingle on your phone letting you know it's unlocked, then it will 'Auto [Lock] after you get inside, for whatever delayed time you have previously setup.
I have one of these but no small panel that you install above the batteries. Must have been thrown away when lock installed. Can you buy them separately? 🤔
Will your phone app overrule all privacy ? Ex . If the access is for a guest - and they hold the privacy button from the inside ; can I (the owner ) still get in via my phone app ? Thanks I just bought the product and watching your vid before I open the box .
There is a now a connected by August module that is pretty superior to this module. The connected by August module includes the ability to set expiring codes like you wanted and it also includes DoorSense so the lock can auto lock when the door is confirmed shut. Pretty excellent. Also supports Homekit in the August module.
I’ve read a ton of reviews about the August hub that u need as part of the August version of this lock is crap, as it needs to be like 5 ft from the lock and direct “line of sight” Do u know anything about that?
@@randygonzalez5758 I've certainly had that problem when trying to use the video doorbell as the hub, the plug in hub works much better. I haven't had problems finding a spot for the plug in hub, you can usually find an outlet close by or in an adjacent room. I've plugged them in in places where the signal has to travel through a wall and they work.
Taylor thx for the response I have the HomeKit version for now....but may end up upgrading to the August version if HomeKit isn’t cutting it for me (and they don’t push out updates to compete with August)
Isn't this using Low Power Bluetooth as a connection? Does that mean you have to have an Apple TV (4?) within 30 feet for operation outside of 30 feet?
I figure that if I get one without a keyhole that I’d just use the back door and only put this on the main entry so that if for some reason it fails, I have the fallback.
Imagine the software support on this thing in a couple of years, it'll be neglected. Go with a company that takes software seriously, competitors are well established in this field, these guys are just a brand.
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
iPhoneX has been out for a while, their App not even updated to support the screen is a worry. My mind says if people don't spend the half a day to support the latest device they are not worth looking at. The one-time passcode is what would be needed. also if someone tries the wrong code you need a notification. Wasn't clear if this supported.
I have to wonder first and foremost if insurance companies will accept this as a valid lock for the door? I understand that they require a second lock, and if so, then what is the point, unless willing to install two, even if that is acceptable to them? I did not see a demonstration of simply having the lock auto-function when walking up the the door without interacting with it, this a feature already present in competing products. And, the feature they did include of the emergency positive and negative terminals is well observed in the industry. An immediate issue with this product would be peace of mind: if the door is locked or not? While the state of the bolt being extended may convince the lock, if the door is left open then the door is not actually locked. This of course can be remedied with a door/window sensor to tell if the door is aligned in the frame or not, but that really should be built into the lock itself, it's just waiting to be abused. The best feature, aside from an internal bridge, was the tapering on the bolt tip, I thought that was a good idea.

They're usually sold separately. Mainly because you can change them out depending on what smart home you're trying to build.

I too would love to know this. I am using Yale access and it does not have the same options.
oh wait I just realised, do they not have a door sensor included as well? So I can't know when the door is open or closed?
Yes there is a door sensor included with the module that is inserted into the lock
Can the locks also be added to other family members phones or tablets or just the one person who can use it?
Austin Yanover you have to have a iPad or Apple TV or HomePod as designated home hub “ to send invite to family members / so , via HomeKit .
Does this work with Google Home?
Do I need the yale connect bridge for homekit or just the module that goes in the lock?
Will this auto unlock with your apple watch?
I purchase one but my question is what happened to the 2nd lock below since they aren’t connected? Do you just leave that unlock?
Can a HomePod also work as a hub for this lock? Or just an AppleTv and an iPad?
Fernando Huitron Homepod will work.
Would this model help me connect with the Ring alarm too?
Curious to know though if someone was able to hack the lock and get in? Is there any countermeasures or security alarm feature?
How does the auto-unlock feature work?
Chris Morris Bluetooth proximity

Eneloop Pro or Energizer Ultimate Lithium.
