Hi Sean, I just picked up a 72 Scout II, and I’m watching all your videos. One thing that would be helpful in the scout life and tech tip videos is to link to the parts on your website in the description. I don’t make TH-cam videos so I have no idea what that takes. All your video series are great and well done. I appreciate all the time and effort you put in!

Picked up a 1 owner '79 Scout II with the Rallye package last year. It's got an orange body and top with white stripes. Unfortunately, it's parked in a storage unit 1600 miles away in SD. It definitely needs work, but I just don't have space for it at home in MD. It sat outside on grass for 26ish years in someone's back yard. When my FIL went to pick it up, he and a group of people had to cut away the trees that had grown around it. It has some rust on the rockers and driver's rear quarter, but not much as I would have expected. I've never seen it in person and I don't even know if the engine turns over, but I'm glad these videos and other resources exist to help when I do finally tear into it.

It wouldn't be a Scout without the annoyances. Man I'm surprised I don't see myself in the background. Have you ever ran into one that been driven since it was born? A man without tools doesn't drive a Scout. Thank you so much for the video, by the way, some like the yammering. Y'all make me smile.

Feedback is important. I am one of the 2000 viewers that owns a Scout, and I am currently rebuilding it as a project to learn about cars, and because I owned one as a teenager, my first car. I am glad I came across this video for the future, but nobody looking to replace a Scout II heater will find this video because there are no mentions of anything this video covers in the description.

Very interested in the AMP gauge bypass with the new alternator. Especially since my 72 Scout has been challenged (but thankfully NOT burnt to the ground) by the factory engine wiring harness connector. Thanks in advance!👍

I have a 1961 International Harvester Scout 80. Starts up and idles great. New carburetor. Needs a few things to be roadworthy. Very solid truck for sale on South Florida Craigslist. I know it needs a brake master cylinder and clutch master that I removed.
One just sold on "Bring a Trailer" for $13,300. I'm asking $15k firm.

Love the attention to detail. These shop day videos are better than any other how-to videos I've seen, about any car. Good video angles. Slow. Great explanations. Watching you make mistakes was frustrating, but I'm sure I'd do way worse if I was trying to chat and make a vid at the same time! Don't worry too much about the mistakes. The knowledge is what's important.

I had a middle finger like that. Surgery to fix it is easy if it bothers you enough. I broke mine trying to change a tire on my race car in a hurry. Dropped the fresh one off the trailer and tried to catch it as it bounced up...but it bounced wrong and broke the tendon connecting the last metatarsal. Doc pinned it and in a few weeks I was good to go.

Selecting AUX (ccw) with the key will also power the heater fan; and without potentially burning out the electronic ignition box if left on too long.

Technically you can call them GM keys too. The steering column used in the Scout II is a column from GM, it's the same column used in the Chevy/GM trucks of that era, and a LOT of Jeeps including wranglers up to the last YJ in 1995, and Cherokee XJs till 1994. If you get a new ignition cylinder, it will likely come with GM printed keys, at least in my experience they have. I owned a 1987 Suburban that used this column, my current 1993 Cherokee XJ has this column, and of course, my 1974 Scout II has this column. You might find Jeep, keys, AMC prints, maybe not anymore these days, but definitely GM keys. I don't think that's really a fault. It's just the nature of the beast.

I have a 79 traveler (right hand drive) both quarter windows are busted would love to see a video on that the drivers side has a broken lower pivot point and the passenger side has a sized latch.

Awesome video, man. Here's a question. In terms of heat, is it possible to have a 345 kept too cool to provide decent heat in the cab? The Scout II I have has an aftermarket radiator and the temp stays pretty decently under 200 if the aftermarket gauge is to be trusted; in addition. If the blower motor has some age to it, would replacing it help get the air to flow harder? It seems like with that traveled there is a noticeable different between that and mine in how hard that air flows into the cab. Further more, to continue about heat, my Scout blows okay warmish air. But I really feel like it could be warmer.

Hey, I’m looking at getting a Scout II very soon but I hope you can help with something. I’ve noticed almost every, if not every one of them, at least with the IH V8, have a sort of tick. If it wasn’t so obvious, I wouldn’t care but I’d really like to understand and maybe rectify it if possible. My preference is to leave it the original drivetrain even as a daily (I work from home and will be be living in small town Montana)
