I just completed this entire job with new regulators. With the help of your video this was not a hard job. Take your time and follow the steps. At the same time I replaced a sagging door hinge and replaced the rubber around the doors. What a difference it makes, doors close perfectly with no rattles. Well worth the time and money. One of my first restoration projects on my Scout II was the doors and windows. So much gunk on the regulator and lock. I learned a ton. Thanks to earlier videos from you guys, I knew to put time into protecting those bottom drain holes, which I'm thankful for as we come into the rainy season here in CA. Nothing better than rolling up those windows up nice and smooth when it was done!

This is great! I just taught my 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son this door a few weeks ago when I had the clock spring for the catch break. They loved doing this so much.
@@anythingscout lol I don't know yet. We took it apart so I could get dimensions on the spring and try to find a replacement. I ended up finding another old door latch that's screwed up so I could pull the spring from it, but I just got it in today. I'll update as soon as we get it done though!

Thank you for this video. I bought my scout II new in 1972 and drove it for forty five years, along wit three teenage daughters. Lots of 4-wheeling in Colorado, Ski trips in California, Utah and Colorado, daily driver etc. Repainted in 1994.. Some body work, a couple of fender benders, a rear ender by a pickup (Scout won),. Valve covers off once, Carb re done, new distributer, fan and cowling, had radiator repaired. Thats it. 300,000 miles later it is in pieces in my driveway and garage and after 5 years of sitting looking at it I am going to get it back on the road. Front clip is off, I'm working up the nerve to remove the engine (345) and trans, maybe lift the body, clean the frame, rewire, fix rust spots (mostly left side rocker) rebuild engine, send trans out for service. I'm celebrating my 50th wedding anniversey and my 78th birthday this coming year and hope to have our Scout back on the road by late next year. You need to lower your window bump stop so your window lowers flush with the top of your door. Or don't. Personal preference, I guess. Also, great tip with the double-sided tape on the felts. I found a great way to clean up the sheet metal inside the felt area is to wrap a foam paint brush (AKA a chip brush) with a bit of wet/dry sandpaper. Two or three passes and no more rust on either side.
I appreciate taking the time for these videos. They are practical and things we can do at the house. When I get in that far it gets out of hand for me. This would have been a 3 day project for me, because I would have soak parts in vinegar and then had to paint all the parts. But I greatly appreciate the time and info in these videos.

When putting the regulator back in, crank it to the up position. Compress the arms and spring and use a zip tie to hold it in place. Put the screws in the crank and then turn the crank until the holes line up for the regulator. Once the screws are all in, cut the zip tie.
Love the longer videos too! I'm guessing you could apply the same steps for an 800? Any differences that should be noted? And forgetting to put the lock rod back in, would be something I would do. So thanks for leaving that in the video Sean.
When I cleaned out my doors and inner rear fender gas tank area I chiseled out mid 60's Tulare County farm land. Dry as a bone. Jarred it up, put a label on it.
Technical recommendation tip. Sometimes your sound levels aren't great for your vocals (sometimes real clear, sometimes super faint), and I think mic-ing up might help with that, instead of relying on the camera mic.

I have a 1972 scout II that has a latch problem. Keeps popping open one click unless I lock it. Is there a video on how to repair warn door latches. Maybe ad a weld spot to it. Any help guys? Thanks in advance.
It depends what the actual problem is. With the door open see if you can rotate the latch to get two clicks from it. If so it's likely an alignment issue that isnt allowing it to latch completely.
@@anythingscout I can click it two times with my hands and if I pull back on it with my finger real hard, It will move one click. If I lock it, I cant move the latch at all. I cant find a good used one so I was wanting to take it to my machine shop and see if they can build it up and make it latch better. Is this something you have tried? Thanks
I'm following your video and working on my '74 scout doors. Do you guys sell the door latch bolts with the external tooth lock washers attached? There are 3 per door holding the latch. Mine deformed a little bit when I was removing them. I'd like to replace them if I can.
Great video. You introduced me to Rust Bullet. Question: Is it advisable to use the same product on the frame of my '74? The frame is in great shape with only the slightest rust dust now. It sands off easily. Back story: this Scout sat for 25 years in North Texas...lots of red (rust colored) dirt. While there was plenty of dirt to rinse off there was a thin layer of rust as well. As I sand it comes off easily and bare metal is revealed with little effort. No flaking is present. Do you recommend Rust Bullet as a protective coating. Hoping to keep this thing on the road for as long as possible.
For 99% of scouts the frames do not need any kind of protection. Any coating that you put on the frame will be cosmetic. Meaning rustbullet is an expensive way to try to pretty up your frame.

My windows do not go up or down. The crank just goes round and round. I am going to try and take it apart this weekend. Any idea what it could be?

I never liked the look of those leather (or fake leather) coverings on the interior of the doors. Tossed them and painted the metal flat black.

Those felts are horrible. The clips are made incorrectly and installed upside down.
