Often times what seems like a curse is really a blessing in disguise. I'm on day 9 today cold turkey and I'm doing much better than I expected after having tapered down to 2/3 of an 8mg strip per day or 5.3 mgs. Going back simply isn't an option for me anymore it's been 8 long years.
4-6 weeks. That's not my experience. I went through a nightmare living alone in my apartment. No doctor or psychiatrist knew much about suboxone. They know how to prescribe it though. The psychiatrist specializing in medications had never met anyone who came off suboxone. I was out of my mind for 8 months. Scary man. The only time I tried opiates was after my 2 surgeries. So when I showed up at a rehab for alcoholism, they out me on suboxone......cause I had prescription pain pills with me. I quit the booze without a relapse. For some reason they never took me off. Its expensive stuff and the prescribing docs get $ for that
Best advice ever heard on the topic. Been on since Suboxone came out. Especially can relate to the train analogy. Do u treat patients out of state by chance?
I want to quit Suboxone but the clinics aren't allowed to have that discussion with you. Suboxone affects my appetite and i keep losing weight, way too much. I tried quitting but mistakenly tapered down too quick and 5 days later i went back to the clinic. Im prescribed 1 and half of the 8mg strips a day cutting one in half. Starting tomorrow im going to begin taking less but not too drastically over a few weeks. I have to succeed in doing this and i will.
Thanks Doc for trying to help us all,how I got to this point was a back injury about 10 years or so ago was on pain pills for a long time when it got to where i no longer needed them for back pain i got sick as a dog anddint know what was going on with me until i found out i was addicted to pain meds freind gave me a strip and i was fine for a couple of days so i went to see a doctor and thats been ten or eleven years ago now and its time to taper off this stuff now too.
I just quit fentanyl 12 days ago. I couldn't take any sub until 5 days of fent detox. I was so afraid of precipitated withdrawal. But now on day 12 I take 2mg sub and knocking it down to 1 mg tomorrow. Then 1/2 mg day after etc..

See if they'll put you on subutex instead of suboxone. Subutex doesn't have naloxone in it and won't throw you into withdrawals if you start once wd symptoms start. I've been on subutex for years and I personally like it better than suboxone. I get cluster headaches and the suboxone was triggering the headaches due to the naloxone.
I tried lowering the self medicated dose while taking suboxone and switching back n forth to lower the withdrawal symptoms then did cold turkey. Now 8 days sober
Yes it's called dysautonomia. Sodium ascorbate (a form of vita C) mega doses every two hours. Imodium (which has a small amount of opioid in it...yes... Imodium) and turmeric. Hot Yoga and cold plunges.

I lasted 4 months of withdrawals when I came off methadone then stupidly gave up and went back on it. It was sending me nutty. I'm wondering is there much of a difference with the tapering and then the withdrawals between suboxone and methadone?
Suboxone withdrawal can normally last months. Methadone and things like oxycontin withdrawal is around 3 days to a week. If you're feeling withdrawal for 4 months from a drug that only takes a week(max) to be back to normal then you might wanna check out some other factors that could be causing it(if u got nothing to do all day yhe withdrawal will be noticeable but if you're busy it will be less noticeable). Motivation is key. Supplements like NAC , ormus minerals will help with withdrawal. Lots of healthy food, water and cannabis can help to. U must treat the mind tho/be ready or the process will take longer. Things always take longer when bored. I hope you're doing well 🙏.
At 18:00 Does the injectible only come in 100mg injections or are there lower dosages that can be given? I know the films do not have uniformed distribution of medication but it seems most people do cut them. If someone is down to 0.5mg daily is it possible to use an injectable at that dosage?

@ I never did it- I went Cold Turkey off of Oxy several years ago and it was not fun- but it sounds better than what I’m hearing here. All I’m hearing here is that detoxing off of methadone or sub is worse than Oxy. Hence, I was wondering if you went from Oxycodone to Methadone or Sub- do that for 3-4 months- then switch back to the Oxy for 3-4 weeks and go CT. By that time, the long acting opioid would be out of your system. Now you will need to detox off of Oxy, heroin, Vicodin, etc- and that is certainly not pleasant- but it sounds far easier than cold Turkey off of long acting opioids.
1/8 of 1mg. So you would need to cut the film into 16 equal pieces (0.5mg/piece), then cut one of those pieces into 4 equal pieces...one of those pieces is .125 mg.
Imodium in incredibly high doses is said to give a very mild opiate effect. High as in 75 tablets at once. He said taking Imodium to help with the loose bowels of withdrawal
I believe he said it could take a year to do the actual taper. From what I've seen, he doesn't provide a timeline for how long anyone should take subs for after beginning
Stay on as little subs as possible. Under 2mg is ideal if you can. Studies show everything above 2mg isn’t that effective on your brain. So trust me, stay low. Don’t do the 8+ mg’s unless you absolutely need to

That would be your best plan , let me tell you quickly what happened to me , I used pills and H for maybe 3 or 4 years , I went to prison and started doing subs , When I got out to prison I went looking for sub and found it , started using it daily and it would get me high , itchy , noddy , and energetic for work. 6 years later , I want to get off sub and I can’t. Quit taking Suboxone for five days. On the sixth day take Dilaudid. You can take the Dilaudid as a new replacement; or, a taper dose. Ask your doctor how.👨🎓
Yes, I've heard of people using a similar method where they take a short acting opioid and naloxone or vivitrol with it while the buprenorphine is leaving the receptors (takes 4 weeks). But, that seems risky for addicts.

I like this guy. It's pure fact with his insight and opinion thrown in. I would love to have him as my GP.✴
These docs need to feel what that withdrawals feel like before giving these meds
So quitting even after a slow taper down to 0.125mg will still cause the usual suite of withdrawal symptoms?
Yep 😂
Yes but not as bad as jumping off of 1mg.
Is it really impossible to jump from 2 mg
@greenthumbstrummer no it's possible. It's tough but you can do it
I want to quit Suboxone but the clinics aren't allowed to have that discussion with you.
Dude if you were able to do five days you were already there. You literally just needed an extra day and you would have felt normal thats horrible

Let us know how it goes?
Amazing video. This was EXTREMELY helpful and insightful.

Kratom can help for the bad days. Doctors will never suggest kratom but it works. Just don't get hooked on the Kratom.
For me I just had to stop I tapered down ad far as I could. 0.25mg an stopped I had a couple hiccups I took a extra lil pc that I wish I never took it's like in the end the suboxone only make it worse if I took more I just want this over with
I lasted 4 months of withdrawals when I came off methadone then stupidly gave up and went back on it.

No they will want you at 4 or 8mg a day to get the shot typically
Injectables only go down to 8mg/week.... thats the mark where I stopped fully. There are no smaller doses than 8mg/week in injectables it seems
I use 16 mg for a day. One day I use 8mg instead of 16,nothing heppend, I didn't fell anything. After a year I just cut down 8 to 6mg and I felt nothing. 1/16th of a 2mg??? Holy crap that's beyond low!! I take 1mg or an 8th of an 8mg daily and thought that was safe enough to jump train in an emergency such as jail or something
Can you switch to Oxy from Suboxone and then detox off of Oxy?
im actually trying to do the opposite how did it go for u
What is .125 on an 8 mg film
????
1/8 of 1mg. So you would need to cut the film into 16 equal pieces (0.5mg/piece), then cut one of those pieces into 4 equal pieces...one of those pieces is .125 mg.

Imodium? Opiates or abstinence are the only two options for opiate addiction curing.
Imodium in incredibly high doses is said to give a very mild opiate effect. High as in 75 tablets at once. He said taking Imodium to help with the loose bowels of withdrawal

My pain doctor just started me on Suboxone. Did you say to do a year of Suboxone, before tapering off.
I believe he said it could take a year to do the actual taper. From what I've seen, he doesn't provide a timeline for how long anyone should take subs for after beginning

I’m starting suboxone tomorrow after 4 years of prescription oxycodone. Can I start tapering right away?
That would be your best plan , let me tell you quickly what happened to me ,
I used pills and H for maybe 3 or 4 years , I went to prison and started doing subs ,
When I got out to prison I went looking for sub and found it , started using it daily and it would get me high , itchy , noddy , and energetic for work.
6 years later , I want to get off sub and I can’t. I haven’t tried to seriously stop but I literally tell my self tomorrow I’m not going to do my piece in the morning and soon as the morning comes , I do it.
