Hey ken Starr. I was your patient when you had your office in los osos. I was working on the construction crew that was putting in pipes all over town. You got me off heroin when I was 21.
Thank you Dr Starr. I went to a sublocade provider and was told that sublocade was not an appropriate drug to wean off suboxone. I pointed out all of the current research and success stories and then he threw me out of his office. This particular Physician is the director of an organization called Town Hall 2 in Kent Ohio. I think he was feeling threatened because he doesn’t want to lose his hundreds of Suboxone patients and the revenue he gets from the pharmaceutical company . I told him in a letter that I wrote to him, and I also reported him to the state of Ohio . Even though he didn’t violate any law that I know of, I found his attitude and unwillingness to help someone repulsive . He’s a bad actor and you’ll have that sort of thing in life. I really appreciate you taking the time to make these informative videos . And I really respect the fact that you are putting the patient’s welfare ahead of everything else
My son did it with 1 shot!! He said it was a little stronger than he needed because he had already weaned down quite a bit, but after a few weeks he felt better and didn’t need to go back for another shot. He had some fatigue at the end, but he started working out and pushed through it! He said you have to be at the point where you are sick and tired of needing a daily dose of suboxone to feel normal!
I went on Sublocade to get off Suboxone and it didn't work. Then I went on Brixadi and it's not even holding me. I have no idea how I'm gonna get off it.
Other doctors around the country know exactly what to do... And choose not to. To those it's "Sober Patients = No $$...." This Doctor here is literally of the remaining few trying to cure and help people.
Suboxone is bad. I started on the injection one. After 2 injections, I was able to stop with very minimum withdrawals. I was on 8MG 2x a day for 4 years. My advice if you want off subs get the injection
Just wanted to reach out to say thank you for all your help. You were the one who made me have the talk with my doctor at the VA and had to educate them about sublocade and the advantages for using it get off of bupe. Im currently on my second shot after being stable on bupe for 2 years. 1 more shot next month 100mg and hopefully back to normal life. Thank you for all you do. I wish 95% of the rest of the opiate addiction treatmment teams were as educated. its a shame alot of them arent unfortunatley.
@KenStarrMDWellnessGroup You know what would be nice?? If chronic pain patients actually got the proper pain medications they need and deserve and people like you stoo coddling addicts.
The man who gave me hope and inspiration when it felt impossible, & from many states away. Turns out the only missing link for me was the detox part, which you didn't leave out. Checking myself into a VA inpatient detox after microdosing for a week then macrodosing a few days prior to checking in got me through it. Now I'm in a residential program in Oregon for the Summer, which wasn't totally necessary but I wanted a better chance before resuming classes in the Fall. So happy that both you and my Dr. here have mentioned Sublocade being easier to taper off of. I'm taking 8mg daily at the moment but we're going to switch to the shot soon. Thank you so much for your continued learning and spreading of new information in these critical times. I see you've got some new products available... Going to take a look. Thanks again for helping me get here. You saved my near future.
I wish this was available 15 years ago. Im 12 years clean still taking suboxone, i hate it so much. I was only addicted for maybe 10 months at the most but 12 years of suboxone thats insane
Been clean off heroin since July 24 2008, stuck on methadone 103mg from 2008 to 2012, Suboxone from 2012 to 2024 and I did 4 Sublocade shots ending May 20th 2024. It's now almost 5 months, everything is fine except for energy, if I'm not working I feel exhausted all the time but can still function. Have to pay the piper and I'm doing that but my weight, appetite and emotions are returning.
Still feeling great!! Thank you Dr Starr, you gave me my life back after years of opiate dependency! I never thought it could be so easy/painless. You hit the nail on the head talking about how it's a mental thing after receiving the injection. The first month I kept thinking I would wake up in withdrawal, which never happened. Additionally, you made the process so much easier by making me feel respected and cared for. You are AWESOME!!!
😮😮😮 WOW Dr. Starr This must have been a very difficult video to make. Kind of a love/hate way of sharing something that will effect your practice. But then again I truly hope that your clients will appreciate your honesty in what you do and if they ever need any help from you in the future I know that they will come back. I’ve been on Suboxen for over 25 years and I’m really getting ready to change this personal daily thing in my life. Because I’m just tired of it. You’re a good man Dr. Starr 😊 We’ll talk soon. Tons of love and respect, Carlos
@@KenStarrMDWellnessGroup Well if you would have checked out my status you would have see that I’m already subscribed and did Like the video. Stop playing with that Ketamine 😊
I work in an outpatient mat program. Several of our patients have made the transition and have done beautifully. However, many of our patients have a certain Blue Cross Blue shield plan which will not approve injectables for people who have not been on Suboxone for at least 2 years.
The insurance companies that dictate what the right option is for you is absolute nonsense. My insurance recommended that I get on maintenance on my last detox stay and was put on 8mg a for about 6 months and I started getting withdrawal, then my doctor upped it to 12mg and 4 months in I started having withdrawals again. I told my doctor that I want to start a taper and I’m now off the bupe 3 days after a 2 month taper and I am suffering right this very second. I am going through exactly what you mentioned about the year minimum nonsense with my blue cross ppo. So I guess it’s a laugh now cry later scenario for me.
Y'all are fighting the good fight, man. I work in this field, have personally experienced a ceiling-dose-to-zero-strips-in-three-days withdrawal that was hell (many years ago), and hate the Suboxone approach to MAT. I'm learning so much from your channel. Thanks.
Thank you for this video! I am coming from 4mg per day for 10 years! I got half a 300 as my first shot . Then 5 100s. The last 2 we spread out at 6 and 7 was weeks . That helped me feel ready that I felt okay. I am 10 weeks from my last shot and still doing good! Hoping for a smooth process all the way through. I am hopeful 🙏
Brixadi is the most amazing product for me as a 20+ year heroin addict with health problems including chronic pain. I did the inpatient induction process which was the hardest. Im on my 3rd month of the brixadi and its been getting smoother!
I know this video is old but I wanted to say thank you. I have been on 12mg of Suboxone for 10 years and finally decided I want off. I have hit a wall, and I am stuck on 1mg of suboxone. I feel helpless like I can't continue the taper anymore. I didn't know about sublocade, and I came across this video. I have my monthly group counseling for my MAT in a week. I am going to play this video in the group to my PCP and see if she will try the sublocade shot so I can get over this hump. Thank you Dr. Ken Starr, I am so optimistic right now. I hope they allow me to play this video in group.
I've been trying to get off Brixadi for years. I have been on the lowest dose for a year and now it's not holding me and I have to raise my dose. How do I get off of all the suboxone, Brixadi, pills and injections altogether? I have not used opiates in decades. I want off this shit!
Dr Starr, Question. Many people who come off Suboxone go through a year or longer of PAWS. Is this the same for Sublocade? Many people on social media report no withdrawal symptoms transitioning from Suboxone to Sublocade but what about after you’re off Sublocade. I had 1-100mg shot almost 9 months ago and for the last 3 months have been in PAWS. It’s improving but still something that should be discussed more imo. Thank you for all you do. You have helped me so much.
Wow you're such an honest guy, always loved your videos, my buddy is 6 months off too. It is a real miracle in the field and I know it's tough to deal with the loss of patience but you will get new patients coming in for the shot from you, because your mentality mainly and your personality are what drive people to you hoping you get more patient soon and get them off this medication! Proud of you doc❤❤❤
14 months ago I was about to be sick on fentanyl.....I watched your video on the "rip the bandaid off method" and I put 2 Suboxone under my tongue. It was hell, but it worked... a couple hours later 2 more, and 2 more, and then 1 more and 1 a day for a few weeks then a half a day until last Thursday....I sweat out the sub and now I'm 10000% off opiates and it feels so good. I didn't need the sub for the last 9 months but I couldn't get off of it. A few days ago I had enough...I was clean for 8.5 years before COVID and now I feel like I finally got my life back. NO withdrawals, NO cravings. God bless you Dr.
I'm wondering how you go about tapering the injections once you've helped someone get to a lower dose. Do you then increase the time interval between injections?
Dr. Starr, thank you. My provider is going to switch me to Sublacade after her baby is born in three months. I am down to 8 mg Suboxone once daily. Brixada sounds exciting. I will research it while waiting for my provider to have her baby. I am BEYOND excited!
I just found you. What would you recommend to get off methadone? I did suboxone/bupe shots over a decade ago. Came off successfully but only for a few months. I've got myself down to 25mg methadone now. Still need some help. Thanks and God bless you for making all these videos and helping so many people. ❤❤
I was on subutext for 14 years, now I was forced to be on suboxone for 6 years and I’m so tired of it I want my subutext back so I can get clear off of it…..
I took strips for years and struggled to find a provider who offered Sublocade. I still have to drive over an hour away from my home for my monthly injection. I've received several injections, and the current game plan is to remove more and more drops from the 100 mg injections and receive less every month until I'm at zero. A few people told me this slow taper plan doesn't make sense, but I feel fewer side effects like hot flashes and sleep disturbances while working towards being bupe-free.
You seem like a good doctor and you've put out some pretty great info on this subject, and for that, I thank you. My only gripe is that I think maybe you shouldn't try and encourage people to get 4-5 shots. I understand that a small amount of people will benefit from that many shots, but most of us whom are just trying to end our decade-long dependance on Bupe and have successfully weaned down to 2mg or less, that is way too many shots. For those of us who are not trying to replace Suboxone with Sublocade as a form of long-term maintenance, the GOAL should be to get AS LITTLE AMOUNT OF SHOTS AS POSSIBLE...that means 1 shot and done, 2 if absolutely necessary, and definitely no more than 3. We are trying to GET OFF Bupe, not have so much introduced into our system that it can be detected in our urine 2 YEARS LATER. I think more people should be made aware of how long this stuff can stay in your system if you get multiple shots, particularly of the 300mg variety. What do ya'll think?
I had some come out of my first 300 mg shot and there was still some left in the syringe is that normal? Please respond doctor I’m coming off 16 mg a day just finished my first shot I’m nervous I will go in detox haven’t had to deal with detox since October 2019…been sober since then with subutex for context. Thank you doctor.
My provider upped my dose from 8mg Suboxone to 16 mg Suboxone for the week prior to sublocade injection. It seems like she took the opposite approach as you are talking about. Explains why I’ve felt like trash the last few days.
Im down to roughly 1mg a day. I have the 8mg strips and i have cut them into 8 equal squares. Ive been at 1mg for nearly 4 years and I cant seem to go any lower without it causing serious problems. Im stuck and i dont know what to do. I get brain zaps at night when im trying to fall asleep and its scary as hell. I feel fatigued everyday, no motivation, no sex drive, enjoyment of life whatsoever. I do have some good days where I feel good and normal but they are very few and far between. Maybe one day out of every two weeks i feel good. How can I go lower and finally get off? There are also times when i cant sleep at night and because im still awake, i then take a tiny bit more and when i go above 1mg in a day, its way too much and makes me feel terrible with head aches. I have a wife and 3 kids so i dont have the ability to take time off for myself to try and kick it completely due to all the responsibilities I have. I need help please!
Also I should mention, I dont take the 1mg all at once. I cut that into 3-4 little pieces and I take 1/4mg every 4-5 hours or so throughout the day. Ive tried taking the 1mg all at one time probably over a dozen times and it is just way too much at once and makes me feel terrible. What would you recommend to keep myself level so that I can kick it completely? I feel like its just a roller coaster, constant up and down.
I got one 300 mg shot 2 weeks ago. Because of the clinic wasting so much time on the first one (2 months) I don’t have enough rescue to continue. Will I be ok with just one 300 milligram shot?
It's all about changing the rituals, it's all about conditioning the mind to have a normal schedule, it's not easy at first but you will actually get back to normal fairly quickly, except your subconscious is still very very susceptible to withdrawal symptoms, so if you sweat even in the smallest way you might get triggered to think it's withdrawal, and it might be only minor though, but if you take a beta blocker it will all go away, it will help you get off the rest of the way, I recommend getting at least four to six of these shots before jumping off❤❤
im at .25 for about a month and i basically just cant sleep at night . everything else is good .i dont know if im so close that i should stay with it or try and find a sublicade doctor in az.
In your experience does brixadi monthly work as well as sublocade to quit suboxone for good? My dr keeps telling me its better but i find so many more comments on Sublocade being the better choice to quit for good with little to no withdrawal.thank you
Please help! Never was an addict, took percs for back injury. Switched to suboxone after back healed to get off percs 5yrs later i cant stop suboxone. I take .5mg to 1mg a day split into 2 doses. always have ecxcept for induction at 2mg. You are the only person ive seen say you get ppl off at those low doses. What do you recommend and at what dose of brivadi or sublocade. And any doctors youd recommend in the Washington DC area. I do not enjoy nor will i miss daily dosing of suboxone. My life does not allow a severe withdrawal period. I have tried to get off suboxone by tapering lower, many times. I just cant. Please help, thankyou I will fly from dc to your office if i have to!

Do you mean subutex is easier to detox than suboxone? Like the subutex tablet that is white?
@@BIGTHINGZ77 No. Subloade. It's the shot. There's no naloxone in it but it's not 'subtex'. It's just straight buprenorphine that lasts a month.

My doc wants to bring me up to 8mg Suboxone from my current dose of 1mg daily. Is that necessary or is she trying to sell more sublocade?
In November im going to sublicade.. wish me luck
I got one 300 mg shot 2 weeks ago. Because of the clinic wasting so much time on the first one (2 months) I don’t have enough rescue to continue. Will I be ok with just one 300 milligram shot?
It's all about changing the rituals, it's all about conditioning the mind to have a normal schedule, it's not easy at first but you will actually get back to normal fairly quickly, except your subconscious is still very very susceptible to withdrawal symptoms, so if you sweat even in the smallest way you might get triggered to think it's withdrawal, and it might be only minor though, but if you take a beta blocker it will all go away, it will help you get off the rest of the way, I recommend getting at least four to six of these shots before jumping off❤❤
I'd love to talk to that guy. Anyone know of a E-mail ??????
im at .25 for about a month and i basically just cant sleep at night . everything else is good .i dont know if im so close that i should stay with it or try and find a sublicade doctor in az.
What suggestions do you have for a someone who's been on methadone for 20 years, also has an anxiety disorder and takes klonopin..?
I'm surprised a doc would prescribe both
Your methadone doc can put u on subs
In your experience does brixadi monthly work as well as sublocade to quit suboxone for good? My dr keeps telling me its better but i find so many more comments on Sublocade being the better choice to quit for good with little to no withdrawal.thank you
Why don’t they have a benzodiazepine shot like this?
Ya Suboxone dependence is just as bad as opiate dependence, except you need it daily instead of every few hours

Please help!
Never was an addict, took percs for back injury.
Switched to suboxone after back healed to get off percs
5yrs later i cant stop suboxone.
Please help, thankyou
I will fly from dc to your office if i have to!
Hi again Dr.Starr! My provider from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, sent you an email a few days ago. She would like to talk with you about helping me end my Suboxone dependence using Sublacade or Brixadi. Could you please check your inbox for her email to you? You have given me so much hope! Thank you for your work!❤
They are just going to see another doctor now
