@@hybridous listen to the video again..... he did explain what prayer is....
When the Israelites spoke to Moses..... was that prayer??..... I don't think so.....
But Moses did intercede on their behalf....
If you are told to have faith in someone by someone you trust....
Would you not feel comfortable enough to do so???
At Matthew 11..... he did promise refreshment to those loaded down oppressively then.
You ought to develop a relationship with him..... so you can relate to him on a personal basis.
But supplication, petition and thanks giving ......I give praise to God....

We must learn from all examples he set while on earth.
If he is to reign for a thousand years...why would we not want to speak to him......

As a Baptist I just wanted to say that people who believe in the Trinity, understand that the Father, Son and holy Spirit are the God head. That They work together.
I was raised J.w.,but never Baptised as one.
I love listening to you explaining the Bible as I can tell that the Holy Spirit is directing your teaching of the holy word of God.

I agree with your comment i have gone back to the anglican church after over 50 years in jws , the nicene creed does not say that Jesus is the father , there are 3 worshipped as one God ,only when i started praying to Jesus my eyes were opened ,i now have a relationship with Jesus and his father through holy spirit , i really believe that the trinity has been a divisive thig to debate for 2000 years ,Jesus simply said "come to me " how can we unless we open our hearts to him, i never was able to form a relationship with jehovah because Jesus was always missing , i agree with your comment

      Lori,
The Trinity is a false teaching. There are many false teachings. Each one causes a problem for those who are misled into believing them. It is not a kindness to gloss over the importance of ridding ourselves of false teachings. It may sound "intolerant" to have me tell you that you hold to a false belief, but it isn't "intolerance". It's just truth. Please keep watching Eric's series on the Trinity.

Thank you for the clarity - for some reason I felt very moved by this info. It's always been interesting to me how we are being moved through phases where we humans derail and God always works things out so we're back on track - but the track is taking us forward so we need to be able to embrace changes beyond what's already taken place. Sometimes I wonder if Christians ever consider Jesus beyond the role of Savior - if they will embrace advancement once the need of that is past. Like I wondered as a JW if JW's would ever be able to function without an organization aka 'Noah's ark' once it served it's purpose. [Interesting isn't it, that my past perception automatically swapped Jesus for the org. - just realized that.]

No easy answer to that. Start with prayer and continue with it. Talk to God as a Father. Read the Bible so that you can listen to you heavenly father, so as to get to know Him as a person. Fix your eyes on human fathers who are good examples to help you get over your hard feelings toward your fleshly father.

These scriptures have me believing the Christians prayed to Jesus:
    Acts 9:14 V-PPM-AMP
NWT: "And here he has authority from the chief priests to put in bonds all those calling upon your name.”
NAS: to bind all who call on Your name.
KJV: to bind all that call on thy name.
INT: all who call on the name
Context: Ananias speaking to Jesus in a vision
    Acts 9:21 V-PPM-AMP
NWT: But all those hearing him gave way to astonishment and would say: “Is this not the man that ravaged those in Jerusalem who call upon this name, and that had come here for this very purpose, that he might lead them bound to the chief priests?”

      Also 1 Corinthians 1:2 V-PPM-DMP
NWT: "to the congregation of God that is in Corinth, to YOU who have been sanctified in union with Christ Jesus, called to be holy ones, together with all who everywhere are calling upon the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours..."

      And 2 Timothy 2:22 V-PPM-GMP
NWT: "So, flee from the desires incidental to youth, but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, along with those who call upon the Lord out of a clean heart."

      Lastly Romans 10:12 V-PPM-AMP

Adding to this - John 17:11:12 shows that Jehovah actually *gave Jesus his own name*.
John 17:11:12: “Also, I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world and I am coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them on account of *your own name which you have given me,* in order that they may be one just as we are. 12 When I was with them I used to watch over them on account of *your own name which you have given me.*”
“Also, I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world and I am coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them on account of your own name which you have given me, in order that they may be one just as we are. 12 When I was with them I used to watch over them on account of your own name which you have given me”

Thanks for an excellent overview on prayer. I also share the view that prayer should be directed to our Heavenly Father through our mediator Jesus Christ, who also intercedes for us as mentioned in Romans 8 - 34 and Hebrews 7 - 25.
Christs mediatorial work is between two parties, His Father and those praying to Him. If one prayed to Jesus they would not have a mediator because Jesus has been appointed to do that work. A mediator is an independent entity and Jesus could not be his own mediator.

Eric, what you said about prayer seems in line with the scriptures, the scriptures fit together better as a whole with your “explanation”. But there is something you keep saying that I cannot really find explicitly taught in the Bible and that is the belief that the unrighteousness will have the “opportunity” to gain life after they are resurrected to judgement. I think, as humans, we want that to be true but I cannot see a definite, direct teaching in the Bible concerning this.. There are a few scriptures that MIGHT be indicating what you are saying but it is not clearly stated as far as I can see. Plus, God is a reader of hearts and knows everything about each person anyway, and knows the choices each person will make, without another “lifespan” being necessary. But I could be missing something. Perhaps you might consider sharing a deeper consideration of why you feel the Bible says unrighteousness people will have so to speak a “2nd” opportunity to gain life?

There are people who are practicing unrighteousness without even being aware that they are doing so......
Satan is a very powerful influencer that a lot of us underestimate......
Not everyone knows how to persevere in prayer.......
Satan uses his advantages over such ones......
Christ had to cast demons out of many so that they could experience a normal life......
Satan continues doing that down to this day...... until Christ render Satan inactive he will never stop deceiving and destroying mankind.....he causes mankind to die in a naive state.....
A God who is just would not judge mankind on the basis of such atrocities......
God knows all those who willingly want to be on Satans side.
A just God gives fair chances.
Not even Satan will be destroyed immediately on the onset of Christ rulership....... An angel will put him away for a thousand years.... removing his earthly influence......
During that period mankind now get the chance to prove who they really are....... whose side will they take.....
That is why we are told in several scriptures not to judge anyone........
After that thousand years are done,.... there is no way that mankind can say that they did not get a fair chance....... because all will be able to differentiate righteousness from unrighteousness.
Christ will then hand over a cleansed heaven and earth to his father..... where righteousness alone will prevail.....

@@bourbon_sketcher we all know nations, tribes, peoples and tongues to be the Earth's inhabitants..... I don't know of the heavenly places been referred to as nations..... fallen angels are often referred to as stars..or princes.
I believe that's all referring to the whole heavenly arrangements that has been put in place that will rule with Christ.
These will ensure that God's purpose for the earth is fulfilled.....after all it is because of Satan and his host that is responsible for the sick condition of the earth......all nations of the earth desperately needs healing.
Revelation 7 gives a picture of what is to take place right there.

I always thought there will be two great resurrections await the inhabitants of the earth: one is the first resurrection, the resurrection of life, the resurrection of the just. The other is the second resurrection, the resurrection of damnation, the resurrection of the unjust. (John 5:28-29)
Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years. (Reign from the death with everlasting life in Heaven for 1,000 years and not reigning or ruling over other saved human beings on earth as Watchtower’s teach)
Thus, first Resurrection are the ones who are sleeping in Christ who will be resurrected at Christ’s second coming along with God’s people who are alive at the time will be caught up together to heaven and meet the Lord in the air.
1st Thessalonians 4:17: Then we, the living remaining, will be caught away together with them in the clouds for the meeting of the Lord in the air; and so we will be always with the Lord.
And second resurrection is after 1000 years, where on unrighteousness people will be resurrected and will join with Satan as God’s final judgement will be fair and just. They will know why they will not be saved. No one will go to everlasting death without knowing that they are guilty.
Revelation 20:5 The rest of the dead did not come back to life until the thousand years were complete.
And as far as individuals who did not had an opportunity to serve God and Christ, they will be judged based upon their moral life as God‘s DNA is everywhere through his creation. God can read anyone’s hearts and these honest hearted individuals will listen and learn from Lord when Lord Yeshua will resurrect them. Their mystery of everlasting life will be answered by Jesus.
There’s no mention in the Bible where they will be resurrected and and for some reason they will die again. Their Faith is not based upon themselves. Their faith will be in the object who can save them and Lord Yeshua can save anyone He wants to as Father and Son already knows their hearts. Pre-destined to save the obedient mankind.
Romans 1:20, For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse.
The second death is also mentioned in Revelation 20:14-15: “Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” At the end of time, even death and the grave (Hades) will be thrown into the lake of fire. In addition, every person not included in the book of life will be thrown into the lake of fire. This condition will be final; the destination is permanent.

Thank you so much Eric for your explanation on this as I have always found this incredibly confusing when I hear someone say that Jesus is God. I have always understood Jehovah God and Jesus his son to be separate and I have always prayed to Jehovah God directly. However, I always end my prayers through Jesus Christ our savior. I too talk to Jesus every day and ask him to hold my hand and help me through hard days or when I’m in fear of being tempted. I am just so glad and appreciative you addressed this as I have heard many Christians speak of the Trinity as they are all one in the same and that just never felt right to me based on scripture. Again many thanks for this.😊🙏🏻❤️

  • @Thomas_Zscheile
    @Thomas_Zscheile 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Eric,
I think scripture is quite clear on the issue. Revelation 22:9 says we should worship God only. The Greek word used there is "proskuneo", which also appears in Matthew 2:11 where it clearly is used to denote worship to Jesus.
1 Corinthians 1:2 speaks of those who "call on the name of our Lord Jesus". If using the name of God means praying, would it not be logical to conclude that both "worship" (proskuneo) and "calling on" (epikaleo) the name of Jesus are closely connected with praying, too? How can we worship Jesus without praying or talking to him? How can we call on his name, asking something from him, without praying? Is not this exactly, what praying is?
I don't think that calling on the name of our Lord Jesus and praying are different things. If you feel that they are, what exactly is the difference? You did not explain this in the video. Thanks.
    God bless you
    Thomas

    • @ProselyteofYah
      @ProselyteofYah 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The issue with proskuneo, is that it's a multi-use word.
In the Greek OT, proskuneo is used of people like Abraham, David, Solomon, etc. All the Israelites "proskuneo'd" those people, and in the OT it also says to only proskuneo God. So it's clear that sharing proskuneo doesn't equate to identity, nor does it always mean to worship.
To call on the name of Jesus also, means call on Yeshua, and his name means "YHWH saves", in English it should be translated as Joshua (as it's the same name). When we are baptised, we do it in Jesus' name, and that is the part where we call on Jesus' name. Jesus is the pathway to the Father, but he is also our king worthy of praise and honour.
But when we do things in Jesus' name, we are calling on his name, which results in proxy worship of the Father.

@@ProselyteofYah Besides the discussion on words, who were the apostles praying to in Acts 1?
"23 So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 And they prayed, “Lord, You know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two You have chosen 25 to take up this ministry and apostleship, which Judas abandoned to go to his rightful place.”
26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles."

@@Thomas_Zscheile The linguistic evidence based on the Greek and Aramaic grammar shows the term "LORD" here specifically should say YHWH. It's one of the places where the divine name was removed, as it has an absence of the gramamtic application of a title, but instead is contextualised in the form of a name.
We also have Hebrew and Aramaic manuscripts for example of the Hebrew written letters and Gospels with the divine name verbatim in them where other Bibles and manuscripts say LORD. This isn't in all places of course, as Jesus is certainly called "the lord" (ho kyrios) as a title. But we have grammatic evidence combined with various manuscripts to know where the divine name originally was.
There is a differentiation in the grammar between when people are called "lords" as a title (which can be applied to God, Jesus, and other people), and where the context of the grammar is using "lord" as a name, which always in context of the Father alone.
Acts 1:24 is one of the places where the Greek structure is using "lord" as a name, and not a title, which follows the later Jewish/Christian traditions of replacing the divine name with Adonai, Hashem, etc.
In the Aramaic manuscripts, the term "maya" is used in these verse, which sometimes means "Lord God" (though not always), whereas in the places where Jesus is called "Lord" the often term "mara", "maran" or "mare" is used . Whilst these terms can sometimes be interchangeable in the Aramaic, there is a pattern that maya is sometimes also used to refer YHWH, whereas "maryah" literally means "Lord Yah".

@@ProselyteofYah The argument is not really convincing me. From the context it is clear that the Lord is Jesus.
One cannot claim that the New Testament is about Jesus and on the other hand claim that in some instances it is about Jahwe when speaking about the Lord just to suit a doctrine. This is exactly what Jehovah's witnesses are doing. Either Jesus is Lord or he is not.

I read many of the comments after listening. The simplest explanation for me is there is One Father the creator. The Son, who was also present at creation volunteered to restore mankind. The holy spirit is still an active source of encouragement and benevolent action without the use of Angels. Angels maybe present unseen and that is not hard for me to imagine. I see the reasonableness of keeping it simple. I like your detailed use of many translations. I will not burden you with how fast do angels fly types of things. I feel you are providing a light in the darkness that has been religion, religion is a construct of man, not our Heavenly Father. I was reading the Bible on my own at 16. Yet I still find new thoughts. It is human nature to acquiesce to having teachers, rather then teach ourselves. Prayer is the avenue of revelation.

@Thoska Brah The logos, who is a separate entity who was with God (John 1:2) and was himself created or begotten by God (John 1:18) was the means God used to create all things (John 1:3). "God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him." (John 1:3 NLT) We have to read the context if we are to avoid arriving at false conclusions like the trinity. I would recommend you view this video as a means to better understand the role of the Logos.

dear brother, Eric, I have an interesting question that haunts me. this phrase pray In my name What does it mean? We sat down, we didn’t ask anything from our father. In my name, now ask if this just means a formal insertion at the end of a sentence, even filled with meaning, or is it something, it means something else. What does it mean in my name, we do not find such an expression anywhere in ordinary life. We don't know what Phrase is. I would be very grateful for the analysis of this issue. I hope I'm not the only one who cares. Greetings from Pol Ukraine

    • @BeroeanPickets
      @BeroeanPickets  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

A good question, Pol. We close our prayers with the words "in the name of Jesus Christ" or words to the effect, but I'm not sure that is what Jesus meant. I'm not saying we shouldn't use those words, but I don't think that a prayer that doesn't include them will be rejected. What matters is that in our heart we recognize that the authority we have to address God as our personal Father comes through the sacrifice that Jesus made for the redemption of all humans. What I'm saying is that simply using that customary closing to a prayer doesn't confer on the petitioner a guarantee. What counts is that he or she truly recognized the role of our Lord.
John 1:12, 13 indicates that our right to become a child of God depends on our faith in Jesus' name.

Hi Eric, I have not missed a single video you created for the past years and I simply had to agree with each one of them as your logic is so similar to mine. Yet until this video. I will try to argue and would be happy to read your reaction. 1. The main question we as christians or specifically ex-JWs have is not about what specifically “a prayer” means and to whom it is headed, it is a sub-question. The head question is: can we as christians speak to Jesus directly? 2. I might agree that the frase “prayer” discribes a special form of communication discribing a comunication with our father only, yet it does not answer the head question: can we speak directly to Jesus even I would not call it a prayer? 3.You have mentioned several cases where 1st christians spoke with Jesus directly. Typically Paul speaks about freely praying to father and also about freely speeking with/to Jesus. So based on New testament we can see that after Jesus left his eartly path and since the book of Acts onward the 1st christians like Ananias, Stephen, Paul, Peter, John etc spoke directly with Jesus and also in other situations praying to father. Conclussion without any bias and eisegesis?? Christians are free to speak with/to Jesus directly without any mediator. Yes and praying to father through mediator-Jesus. They can do it both according the sitiantions, their relationships with Father and Jesus as YHWH is theit father and Jesus is their friend. And according to their consciosness. That is simple exegesis by reading the whole new testament. Agree so far?
    4. You have twice used an argument that only YHWH is our God and our father. Really? Since Jesus arrived to Earth many roles moved from YHWH to Jesus, Jesus become our Owner, Master, Lord, Head, Shephered, Judge, Saviour, Gatherer, King, Life giver, resurector, award giver, light and many others. All these titles was previously held by YHWH and he gave them to Jesus. Since book of Mathew through Acts up to Jude all these roles-changes were clear to Apostles and christians. Yet than the Revelation of Jesus arrived and new things are to be revealed. Things Jesus have not told them while he was on earth. It has nice smooth graduation, yet gives as firm hints like who is the one who sends his Angel, who is the one comming, who is the one giving water of life, who say Write!, who is the begining and end etc… up to the grand finale at Rev21:7. Finally the last roles as prophesied in Isaiah moved to Jesus. Jesus is now our God and even father. So? It does not eliminage the fact YHWH is greater and it does not create Trinity. Yet we know from Revelation (that even Jesus have not commanded it in previous books) all in heaven worship him. If a prayer is a form of worship, why we could not pray to our God Jesus? In the case the Jesus might have this role for 1000y only (other verses say he will role forever) it does not stop us to pray to him now until the end of 1000y. Even anyone might feel it does not create a reason to oray to Jesus, it also does not change the fact we can freely “speak” to him as Paul did. Do you agree?
Thank you for your reaction and please forgive my non-native english.

      2. Prayer describes our talks with our Father. Talking with Jesus is different.
      3. Agreed.
      4. Isaiah calls Jesus, the everlasting father, because he is the last Adam. However, the anointed are not children of Jesus, but Children of God.
We, as children of God, pray to our Father. Jesus, is our brother as per Hebrews 2:11

D'ailleurs le verbe " surnommer" signifie : DONNER UN SURNOM, UN NOM AJOUTER AU VÉRITABLE NOM, OU QUI REMPLACE LE VÉRITABLE NOM.

Why does the bible call Jesus the Eternal Father? Isa 9:6

    • @ProselyteofYah
      @ProselyteofYah 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are two potential explanations.
First of all, it can't mean he's God, because it would be calling the Son the Father, which is actually against the rules of the Trinity and is considered heresy in all Trinitarian churches.
So if the son is not the Father, and it is calling Jesus the Father, it must mean he is a different kind of father, and he is. Jesus is called the replacement of Adam. In this he replaced the first human father of all mankind.
Jesus also can be argued to be the "covenant father" of the children of the New Earth to come.
In the NT, it says the Bridal congregation is "married to Jesus", in the way Abraham is married to Sarah. Paul called this "a mystery of the Gospel". Abraham is also called "the Father of the Jews", even though they all share God as their "true Father".
The Bible says Jesus is our brother, and that with him we share one God the Father.
So if we are marrying Jesus, it means there will be children born. These will be the children of the New Earth, whom Jesus and the Bride bring about. The eternal future of mankind.
But all share one true Father in heaven, YHWH. Jesus is an everlasting father, where Adam failed to be, bringing an everlasting covenant, as opposed to Abraham's temporary covenant.
This of course... if Isaiah 9:6 is translated correctly... and it's possible it's not. When we read Jewish versions of the Bible it says: "The everlasting father, mighty god, calls him the Prince of Peace".
A very different translation, which linguistics can indeed support. And if this is the case, then Jesus is only being called "prince of peace" and nothing else. Since this verse also applied to the Old Testament king of the time, not just Jesus. But no matter which translation is correct, Jesus is not being called God the Father, and can't be, unless one supports Modalism (that the Father is the son and vice versa, but that then contradicts scripture where the son is "with" the Father).

Both can be argued to be correct. It's a translation and linguistic issue, and a very complicated one. Even the JWs use "Yahweh" in some of the publications in some countries where that version is more commonly understood.
There is compelling evidence both for and against each version of the name. Most important however is its meaning "I become to be what I become to be".
I use the neutral term "Yah" , as it's found in the Bible OT and NT several times, and is a term accepted by all scholars universally as one of the correct versions of the name.
We can be sure God's name isn't pronounced with a J of course, it would be Yehovah, Yehowah, Yahweh, Yahveh, Yahvah" (etc, etc, of such variation). The J sound came later when English started to pronounce Ys with a "J" sound.

@@LosBereanos no, but of course we are both in the flesh - neither of us is a Spirit! This is a sticking point for me!
Can fleshly beings speak with spirits outside of prayer? The analysis in the video seems to lead to a conclusion of YES, given that Jesus Christ is a spirit and we are to 'talk' to him.

@@hybridous I agree that we can talk with him. Jesus talked with Satan, who is a spirit. I have not problem with talking with Jesus. My point is that Prayer is in a class by itself as a form of communication. It is a word for the communication with have with our heavenly father.

Hi Eric, yesterday I joined in on one of your meetings. I have to say it was very encouraging and everyone seemed very nice. I’m an ex JW that’s been out for almost 8 years now. I was only able to attend one of your meetings yesterday because I was on vacation and I normally work the weekends. My days off fall on Wednesday and Thursday. Will there be any meetings in English held on any of those days in the near future?

    Stop misleading people.
Jesus was given " all Authority " .
And he sits on the right hand side of his father. This sitting on the right hand side represents the explicit unity of function as a Might God in connection with the father. He who communicates with Jesus in any way, is also communicating with his father. The Word God is a title, like the Word Government. Jesus is a part of the Function of the institution of God. Remember he is the word of God ..
    Isaiah 9:6
[6]For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

This is not teachings of the Trinity Sir, it's bible truth, un twisted.
Jesus in not an Angel. Scriptures show he has the same nature as his father.
      Philippians 2:6-7
[6]Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
[7]But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

@@caribbeanman2037 I agree that Jesus is not an angel. However, he is also not part of a trinity. I will be explaining who you and so many other trinitarians are misapplying and misinterpreting scriptures like John 1:1; Philippians 2:6, 7; Colossians 1:16-19 in future videos. If you are truly seeking truth, I'm sure you'll find those videos to be revealing.
