Playland is gorgeous ! I’ve been going there since I was 5 years old . The buildings are from the Art-Deco period in the early 1920’s . Because of those buildings Playland was established as an Historical Landmark . I haven’t been to Playland since I moved to the west coast but I’m planning to get back there in 2024 ! This park has seen a lot of changes over the years . Some good some bad . They removed a lot of the classic rides that made Playland great . I keep mentioning this in my posts hoping that management will take notice and Listen to my feedback . Here are some Rides that Playland should consider bringing back … The Roc-o-Planes , Over the Top, The Spider , the Flying Scooters , The Turtle Chase . They also had an in-ground pool with dolphins . The original Monster Mouse . Should also bring back the original Trains on the Dragon Coaster !
Great review of Playland and its dark rides, however, I am amazed that you didn't go on the Dragon Coaster. That is the parks signature ride. I did like that you walked down to the boardwalk area (movie Big filming). It would have been cool if you covered the food as well given that this is a critical topic for me when I visit a park. I HATE it when the food sucks. Perhaps someone can chime in on that. I do plan to go this year before the park closes for the season. Oh! The reason why they kept the Zombie Castle over the Flying Witch is because the former IS a classic Traver built dark ride. The Flying Witch is a more modern dark ride. I really don't know why Playland chose to remove it. They recently removed / closed a lot of rides, including that flying coaster. The park is under new management and they have been trying to fix the place up over the past few years. ...Again, WHY didn't you ride the Dragon Coaster?
@@RoadsideExplorers I will be going soon, hopefully tomorrow if it doesn't get too hot. They are predicting the 80's. Ridiculous for mid September. When I do go, I certainly will be making a beeline for The Dragon. I don't get to ride wooden coasters often, so when I go to a park that has one (or two), I cherish those moments.
Playland is one beautiful nostalgic amusement park in a gorgeous setting. I love taking my family & relatives there when visiting NYC.

Yes, I do regret not riding Dragon Coaster.. But at least that's a reason to make a return visit!
