- [4K] Ye Old Mill is a classic dark boat ride built in 1929 at Playland Amusement Park in New York. This dark boat ride was later renovated 75 years later from Sally Corporation to incoroprate some of Gnomes, Trolls, and Dragon animatronics.
Playland Park is located about 30 miles Northeast of Times Square Manhattan, NY.

I know, right? I can stare off into space and think without all those damn distracting animatronics.
Well lucky you because that's like 75% of the ride
for a ride thats almost 95 years old it looks pretty good
I have to agree, there's so much that can be done to "plus" this ride. There's too much "dead space" in between the scenes. But there is some charm to what they've got, they just need more theming.

I was reading a few of the comments and thought I could answer some questions seen there. This ride is in Playland Park, located in Rye, New York. It’s in Westchester County on the Long Island Sound, not too far north of NYC. Playland is a lot of fun to visit. There is a beach there, mini golf, some historic rides and other attractions. The log flume doesn’t have any big drops - it’s a more chill, visual experience. I have been going to Playland since I was a kid in the 70s and still try to get back their at least once a year. It’s a unique place and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys this type of thing.
Ive never been there, for me, i go to knotts berry farm almost every month with my family, but from what your saying it sounds like a lot of fun! :)
@@Friredragon It’s quite small compared to Knotts Berry Farm. More like a lovely carnival, only with better rides and always in one spot. I am sure you all would enjoy it.
Not a bad dark ride, what this ride needs is more theming and set pieces inbetween the scenes cause then you’d be fully immersed in the experience
Trust me, this is incredible compared to some of the dark rides we have here in the UK!

It’s a cute ride with a storyline. I wish you guys showed yourselves going down a big drop that other boats were screaming about.
There is no big drop on this ride - it’s more relaxing. Was kind of cool to hear the people on the wooden roller coaster that’s built above during one section.
I thought this ride was a lot better than I was expecting. I thought it was just a typical "mine" ride, but it was fantastic how they brought the idea of trolls and dragons into it! I think they could have put a bit more theming into it----way too many blank walls. And they could have put fewer troll and dragon animatronics.
Rye Playland! Wowee Zowee!! I grew up going to Rockaway Playland.
This is the ride I rode the most when I went their like 10 years ago.
How do I put this, what a charming ride unintentionally. The worn-down animatronics with googly eyes that follows as you pass by, the dimly lit black corridor, the gap between dividers that allows you to peek through the next set piece. The evil laugh when the troll is planning your demise. You start to think of if the ride breaks down who can come to your rescue in time or might you forever be trapped in this endless corridor. It starts to become a little ominous, and then you think of the age of the ride, the people who have ridden and what might have happened in this very spot, it then becomes a little more creepy...and that's why this ride has got charm, it gives you all these thought just simple riding through it once.
I snuck on this ride as a child with my father, thinking that it would be a short sweet Disney-like attraction...needless to say, I emerged completely terrified and sobbing my eyes out. Looking back at it years later, I can’t stop laughing, it was definitely so much worse in my 7 year old head.

The old rides are the best rides, I do remember a kid died awhile back though on this ride.

Tbh "Ye Old Mine" would probably be better but if I were to guess; I'd say someone else had the name so they swapped it to a mill.

I just realized my TH-cam channel banner pic is from Playland where they filmed the scene from the movie Big with Tom Hanks and the Zoltar machine. Also Mariah Carry filmed her music video fantasy in the parking lot and rides the dragon coaster. Fun facts lol.

This ride use to be mostly in the dark and scarier years ago. A child had got out the boat and drowned unfortunately and they were forced to add more lights
don't get me wrong the ride has a lot of charm but its got more blank space than charm.
I want to know how we went from boat 10 to boat 6 without getting off. lol 😂
There's a crossfade around 2:41 where the boat changes. My guess is that their camera died, so they had to go again later.
I'm sure the financials on this ride are razor thin, so to have such nicely rendered scenes is really a surprise. The dragon is very impressive. Thanks.

6 Grade Class Trip, I Went on this ride back in 1983 never saw any of the animatronics, too busy playing touchy-feely.

I've been on this ride. It's honestly a snooze - I expected bigger drops (there were only small drops) and less blank walls. I did enjoy the vintage animatronics though.
The best rides at Playland were Crazy Mouse (a twisty-turny coaster), Derby Racer (the FASTEST carousel I've ever been on), and the classic wooden Dragon Coaster (best ride in the whole park).
What video camera did you use to film this? It looks like it has good low light capabilities.

The green led is not meant to be there, would be a lot more scary in the dark and the areas with no features would make a bit more sense!
When I was younger, it was pitch black. The string lights have go to be a newer addition.
This makes so much sense as to why it was (or still is) a make-out ride for couples. 😉

it's like seeing an old friend, with musical accompaniment by danny elfman. but honestly, i spent most of the time trying to figure out if you were in boat #6 or #9.

Great pixels on this camera for the video. Unfortunately I didn't like the green lighting running along the ceiling throughout the ride. It made it too bright.

this is a great idea but where is the sound of those voices? it's just this has a great idea, but i feel like it's just a lot of empty spaces with some animatronics, i know it's not Disneyland and all, I even appreciate things like Dubie motion gate. but if your going to promise something like this with mouth move, give a sound added to that. don t think people are not going to notice. anyways awesome filming of this ride thank you

It is fun, it’s my local amusement park. Dragon coaster is fun and the horse race is very fun. It’s a small park but placed beautifully next to the sound.
I went on those ride’s too, I remember a worker ran onto the ride dodging horses while it was spinning to remind me to lean to the left 😂😂
@@Jayrod-qb3zb my first time on the horse race I was not expecting it to be that fast and I was holding on for dear life😂 now it’s a breeze but you never forget the first time!! Btw I had a worker do the same lol
It has this Knotts berry farm feel but done better. I'm a CA guy and never really been to other state's amusement parks other than epcot
@@thecunninlynguist I’ve been to Knotts once and loved it! This park here in NY (Playland) is very small compared to Knotts but has a nostalgic feel. Hope you get to visit sometime.

The corridors & bones of it could be, but the anamtronics of the trolls don't remind me if anything predating the '60s.

Great ride, but if there was more theming (like cavern walls for example). They’d have a chef’s kiss experience…
I gotta say, this ride isn’t that bad. But it needs more theming and more animatronics so that way the ride will be more entertaining and enjoyable. So maybe they should just returned it.

Replce the Y in the title with T.h if they can't get a true thorn character (th sound) which hasn't been used for centuries. Plus it's more of a mine than a mill.

Seems like the tube lighting in the sections of the ride where there is nothing to look at should be eliminated. The way it is now, there’s not enough darkness in the ride. The troll theme is nice but kind of meh. The theme should be something more scary with skeletons, bats, and things like that.

I have never seen this much wasted space, and in such a long ride. They do know, by now, that they can fill all that space with projections?

The dragons are not working the bucket never falls on people anymore and the flower guy does not spray. Also the wall of water is not running. They ruined the ride for me. It's boring nowadays not a wet ride anymore if at all. It was so much better 4 years ago or 20 years ago.
