Thank you for this well done video! My first trip to Playland was in 1961. There were a number of attractions in the park that are now long gone. In 1966, there was a massive fire that burnt almost 1/3 of the park. The iconic Fun House, a very popular attraction similar to the original one at Coney Island, burnt to the ground. There was no limit as to how much time you could spend in the Fun House. Kids like myself would spend hours inside enjoying the Barrel Roll, Spinning Disc, and the very large Wooden Slide. Also destroyed was the 'Magic Carpet' which exited its participants on a long bumpy conveyor belt. Other attractions burnt as well but the Fun House and Magic Carpet were remnants of Playland's golden era of the 1930s-1940s. During my pre-teen and teenage years, Playland sold ticket books and each ride had a designated number of tickets you surrendered before being granted entry. Although I was not old enough to experience it, older folks would fondly remember what I remember being called the Aero-Coaster, a roller coaster bigger and grander than the Dragon Coaster. It was dismantled in the mid 1950s for what I have heard was safety reasons. At one time, the Aero-Coaster and the Dragon Coaster were the big draws for the park. Playland is a magical place that I hope will remain popular for a long time.
I've been here since a very young age and now I'm 26 years old. The vibe at this park back in the day, especially during the night time was so beautiful! This is a great park with it's own uniqueness. I miss the old days
my favorite was going in the evening into night time with family when I was little. they took so many great rides away💔💔 I can't believe it and I'm so sad about it😭💯
I personally found Dragon to be more forceful and stronger in the airtime department than it was for you, but either way it’s hard to deny that the ride holds up extremely well.
Some of the best classic rides that should be brought back to Playland , The Turtle Chase, Flying Scooters , The Roc-o- Planes , Over the Top , The Monster Mouse and the Tumbler ! Also need a Bigger Roller Coaster and to bring back the original trains with the nice leather seats on the Dragon Coaster along with the lights !
Musik express looks absolutely stunning with that light package. I love how amusement rides look when they have all kinds of crazy lights like that and the carousel looks cool too. Having the operators jump on the moving platform seems like something that would be banned in the US, but allowed in other places like Europe
Remember going thier with my father company every year back in the 70s free food free rides go swimming it seems they still have the same rides there then when I use to go In The 70s
Awesome vid. The Sky Flyer, that one will always have a strong memory for me as it was the first ride I ever took an inversion on. I was in the 6th grade going into the 7th and of course there was only one reason why I went on - a girl hahaha. I wish they would make more Whips. It's my fave flat ever. They have the NASCAR ones for the kids, but I'd love the carnival circuit to build one for families. When I was a kid, my first ride on the Whip was at Kennywood. It was located in a building right around where the Racer is believe it or not.
hi, thanks for this. Awesome video! Brings back memories I have a quick question though you showed a clip of the mind scrambler! I used to love that ride, but there was a horrible accident many years ago I could’ve swore they tore it down. Did they rebuild it???
My favorite was the Flying Carpet and the Fun House that burned down when I was a child... But still vivid great memories! The Dragon Coaster is where my love of roller coasters began!
@@CanobieCoaster yea i’m sad about that especially since i never got to ride it, im also sad about the thunderbolt removal, that was my favorite ride of all time there, don’t know what’s up with playland and them removing most of the good rides nowadays
Have you been to Camden Park in Huntington, WV? Their Whip is the fastest one I’ve ridden. (The other ones I’ve been on are at Kennywood, Dorney, and Knoebels.) I was just wondering if Rye Playland’s Whip is the fastest even compared to Camden’s.
I love how the wild mouse has the paint scheme of Mako. Do you have any tips for a single rider trying to ride ye old mill. Was thinking of just standing at the entrance and seeing if there are any other single riders. Didn’t know if that would be weird.😂
Do you know much about the Airplane wooden coaster that used to operate here? Apparently it had quite the reputation. I’ve tried to research it but beyond a guy who built an amazing scale model, documented via a forum, and a no limits recreation, info seems pretty scarce. Thanks for all the videos!
Gutted to hear they removed Mind Scrambler and Sky Flyer! I frequented this park with my family growing up and those two rides provided some of my formative enthusiast memories.
I went here on a field trip with my summer camp back in 2015. I thought that the spaceship zero gravity ride was the best ride in the park, followed by the Dragon Coaster, the Haunted Cars ride, and the Log Flume.
I feel like my childhood is forever gone now ! I just went to playland yesterday after 3 yrs away and my favorite ride, thunder bolt is gone, 0 gravity starship, red & blue coaster gone. mouse coaster was closed down. skywalker gone! I am just realizing I didn't see it😞😞😞💔💔 the spooky ride wasn't on. no fun house mirrors, swings down! music express down. literally superrr huge disappointment I'm legitimately super sad😭😂 I have been a playland goer since literally little baby in a stroller so to see it go down like this really bugs me. it doesn't even have that playland smell anymore😞 it was my favorite place in the world! no candy apples or cotton candy on the cone only in buckets😞💔💔💔 the workers have no excitement anymore. It's really hard to let go!!!🥺😕😞I'm gonna really miss it a lot💔💔💔😞
@CanobieCoaster I knoww I saw the sign on the red coaster (super flight) but I am still hurt that my childhood rides are no longer here anymore. ☹️where do they put the rides??? did they completely take down thunder bolt piece by piece and throw it away or is it somewhere else?? I don't want it anywhere else. I want it at playland. they had the best commercial song ever 😞😞😞I wish I could do something to bring everything back. even the smell of it💔💔😞
This was another countdown that took me by surprise. I was expecting the Dragon to be number one and Ye Old Mill in the top five since that's been a typical pattern for most countdowns with a roller coaster getting first place and a few dark rides being in the middle to upper tier, but I haven't ridden any of this person so I guess I wouldn't know for sure.
Can you please make videos reminding people to visit these old parks. So many people go to great adventure and completely overlook this place. It's sad.

I stand corrected. It was torn down in 1957 due to numerous mechanical issues causing insurance problems. Got this from Wikipedia

Playland was my first real roller coaster experience. I got my courage because of Playland 🤣. R.I.P to the Skyflyer, truly was a favorite of mine.
Hopefully they replace it with another thrill ride.
As someone moving to NYC without a car. Do you know if this park is easily accessible by public transport? I would love to check it out.

@@CanobieCoaster no problem it looks like you can take a bus close then walk for a few miles which is doable
Derby Racer was my favorite there, but it seemed that about half the rides in the park were closed, even with it being a very busy Sunday.

@@CanobieCoaster Yes, it was a Sunday at the end of July last year.

Mind Scrambler was due to some unfortunate incidents.
Long ago, Casino Pier at Seaside Heights had "Skyflyer" (I think it was spelled "Skyflier" there); I miss that one.
I wish more were still around. The hangtime is terrifying.
I think this park will improve in the coming years. I can only hope that the new additions are "tall friendly" cause I'm quite tall!
Hopefully.
