✅ONE DAY IN BANGKOK | The Frustrated Tourist! | Grand Palace | Emerald Buddha | Golden Mountain

- Bangkok is a great tourist destination but Bangkok is not a fun place when it doesn't go to plan, but you can still make an adventure out of it! Visiting places I'd never been before after all these years, places like Wat Saket, The Grand Palace, Golden Mount, Wat Prakaew and a couple of places in between. The day descended into chaos when I was late meeting up with May and she had to take over presenting while I was racing to meet her on a bike. As it turned out, I did get to the Grand Palace while May drank 3 cups of tea!! Enjoy this most ridiculous, fun and historic trip to some of Bangkok's most famous sights......

Another awesome video. Thank you!
Thanks! 😃
One of the best channels about Bangkok and Thailand. This and Tim Newton are the two channels I follow for Thai news and views. I remeber also come to Bangkok to ay my respects to King Rama IX much missed by many.
Thanks, Tim just does no nonsense news which is what people want without all the frilly banter
Definitely the best Chanel without question. The only Chanel I've donated too. I'm only sorry the amount I could donate was $79 the Chanel has given me hours of pleasure .
@@lesgortat7534 Thank you Les!
Loved the video with the participation of May. Tks Pat
Thanks Anton.😍
Great video Pat, loved the history lesson for us tourists. The night shots were also great. Was good to see May back, she brightens up the video's.
Thanks Shaun, she's going to be in many more!
Great video nice appearance from the lovely May.
Superb A+ !!!! Thank you so much and good luck for you two !!!
Thanks and best of luck to you too!
Thank you Pat & May.
I definitely share your interest in the history and the Khlongs of BKK, Pat. My wife & kids share your love of the cats! Love all the old pics you manage to find, especially when you juxtapose in a 'then and now'.
Diolch yn fawr, from Wales.
Thanks Tim, l'm doing a canal walks video at the moment!
I like how you described the canal route to get to the Golden Mount. And I always love the historical pictures and facts.
Thank You Jill 😍
great video see you on the next one
Thanks 👍
great to see you and May do a team video
Cheers John😍
@@BangkokPat Pat when I come to Bkk I would love to take one of your tours
@@Photojouralist123 Get in touch when you're arriving John, and we can organise something, cheers.
Your a legend Pat brings back my memories of BBK in my first few trips!!
Cheers Shane😍
I always look for the cat in your u tube clips
Wonderful to see the beautiful May again Pat. I imagine her to be a delightful human being! And the video was awesome too. 🙏🙏
Thank you ka @Bill Simpson 🙏😊
Cheers Bill 😎
Lovely video as usual, how does May put up with you I wonder.... :)
Pat, What a Nice and Comic Video, and nice to see and hear the Comments about these Touristic Places. 🙏
Thanks Gert😎
A night walk around the compound is a great idea.
It's a lovely way to spend an evening
What a lovely video, Pat. It,s great seeing May again, she adds a new dimension to the video, a new character to build up your channel. Make more videos like these! Cheers!
Cheers, it's light relief from the serious business of walking Charoen Krung Road or filming trains! 😍
@@BangkokPat Nice, informative video. Can't keep the lady waiting all the time : )
Great work!
@BkkPat another great video thank you, I was there a couple of weeks ago but it was so busy what time was you there filming looked like a good time to go back again.
I was there on a monday close to closing time
Hi Pat. I am watching all your new (and older) videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of Bangkok. Maybe I will see you there one day! I will be in Rawai for 4 weeks in April.
I already walked around several times in and around the Grand Palace but this Video gives me still some more details. Nice work Pat :)
Cheers Frank, they have signs saying no cameras but nobody seemed to mind!
@@BangkokPat True. I filmed with my big setup but nobody cares.
What a very interesting video. Superb and very clever editing. Certainly the best channel about Thailand and In particularly Bangkok
Thanks Daniel 😎
Another great production!
Thank you Joe 😎
The new waiting area is very modern and beautiful. 🙏👍
Great in rainy season!
Well done Pat and May. Very informative and entertaining the same time, especially with the historical background you can tell and show with the old photos and films. Awesome. Thanks a lot👍
Glad you enjoyed it Alfred, thank you 😍
Getting very adventerous with the production of this one, you could be a new BBC...... Bangkok pat's Broadcasting Concern...... 😆
Cheers mate, that's a possibility!
Wonderful as always
A little different from normal.
Made me smile at your adventures.
Lovely video, again, Pat.
Thanks Joey 😎
Another quality video, made even better with the Lovely May.
Thank you @MrRockwellrob 😊🙏
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers! 😍
Ha, I just did this. I figured I had not hit the tourist sites for about 5 or 6 years so it was time for a redo. We spent an enjoyable day a couple weeks ago doing just that. Totally worth it!
I am a frustrated tourist at heart l think 😎
Nice presentation
Just wondering how the word Bangkok came about ????
All the support
Thumbs up
Well done
Good job
I really enjoyed this episode. I’ve enjoyed several visits to the Grand Palace but I’m long overdue for a return visit this time with my children.
It's a nice day out except for the tourist entrance fee!
That's Marc Nelson 00:34
Certainly is! We had a blast during shooting, everyone did!
I like how your channel is strong on culture and history in Thailand. It is a fascinating place. If you haven't read it, I'd recommend "The buddha in the jungle" by Tiyavanich. It's an excellent piece on how Buddhism existed in the Kingdom in the 18th and 19th centuries and describes just how wild the countryside was back then. All the best to you :)
Thanks Robert and l will seek out this book, l'm a sucker for history.
0:54 - a bunny! Happy Year of the Rabbit.. 😁
Thanks😇
Bangkok Pat in the ad. Acting was nicely done👍
Thank you 😁 Was a lot of fun!
Mahakan Park was my hangout place during Covid time when was lockdown and curfew.
Love that park and the resident black cat. Which starred in another video, squaring up to a snake, in Canals Part 1
Nice vlog Pat
Catching up on your channel... and you are absolutely right about the quality of the older video. You've really upped your game here. Well done, sir! My son now wants to go visit Wat Saket... too many steps.
Thanks!
Thank you Ted for your support!
You haven't changed a bit of that commercial. ❤
Thanks for the compliment even though l do slightly doubt your sincerity.....😢
Greaat photographs of the Wat Saket Golden Mount. Checked Steven Van Beek's Bangkok Then and Now but he does not have the same photographs that you have. Great research work. We visited
wat Saket in the 80s. Not very clean then and the view from the top was of klongs and shanty towns below not the wonderful wats there are there now. Thanks to Mae for engaging with the audience. The Parsi's Tower of Silence use vultures to devour the cadavars. That has now been stopped in all countries I think. Thanks Pat too for showing us the Palace area at night - not many people would venture there at that time. Pat you are giving the impression that Bangkok's traffic is sparce and normal ha ha!
It generally isn't that congested around there day or night!
This is so entertaining, thank you pat and may!
Thank you very much😎
Great video as always 🙏😁
Wonderful tour.
This vlog is wonderful.
Thank you very much!
Professionally made video, very nice. May: "...the capital was moved across the liver...", Love it. 💕
It was transplanted actually...

Another great vblog watched with my gf who is also a subscriber and loves your channel.
Great to hear that Jim!
I go to Golden Mountain every time I visit Bangkok, a great temple. Where the heck is that Baniyan Museum @BangkokPat? I've never seen it! BTW, the best noodle soup in Bangkok is just around the corner from there on Maha Chai rd at the corner of Bamrung Mueang rd...
That museum is at the bottom of the mountain just next to the stairs up.
Another well-produced informative and entertaining video, Pat. BTW, were the drone shots of the Palace your own work? Cheers
Stock footage, available on a couple of sites.
Heyy, that's Marc Nelson, Khun Pat! He was, still is, a host/TVC talent/presenter here in the Philippines. Always looking forward to your posts. I learn a lot of Bangkok from you!
He was a nice guy during the shoot, and most probably still is!
Bars, clubs and MBK. I can relate to that.
Wonderful vdo, Thanks.
Can feel you, first time in TH in 2000, moved to SG 2001, TH more often then since 2012. All good times, did not regret a single minute.
Cheers, time goes fast as you age more...
Nice episode! This was my first tourist spot in Bangkok in 2005. I was overwhelmed and confused when I got to the Grand Palace - several Tuktuk drivers assured me the palace was closed. They offered to take me and my friend on a different tour - even better. We ignored them and found the Palace was open.
This scam is a thorn in the side of many tourist spots.
Really enjoyed the video!
Wow I never even knew of the golden mount.
It's there to be climbed! 344 steps!
Pat - "hansum man" in your TV commercial debut... thanks for sharing....
Those were the days Andrew....
Great video Pat
Cheers!
lol, I did some commercials too.
I like the new style Pat! May makes a very good addition to the channel. Happy New Year!
Thanks Christian😎
Shirt looks like faded beige 🙂 I also ran out of time at the Grand Palace, the closing time caught me out. A great place to visit.
Of course it's not really gold as you say, but l thought up that ridiculous joke right there!

Great video Pat!
Cheers Owen😎
I get the klong boat to Bobae shopping mall but I learn if I see something I like buy it otherwise it will take ages to find it again. But watch your ankles the trolleys
Great place to buy at cost price, get there early!
She let's you off way too easy.... lol. Have a nice weekend u 2, thanks for the video
I was beaten senseless later that evening 😢
It's sad that the Northern part of *Sanam Luang* no longer has green grass.
That was the closest open area to Thammasat University and Banglamphu area.
Cars park there now, l was surprised and unsurprised at the same time!
Went to the Emerald Buddha to pay my last respects to the King back in 2016, surprisingly they let me in, got a flower, a candle and a piece of gold leaf.
Love Wat Saket ! Usually head to the Rama 1 statue afterwoods, good little stationery shop around there pick up a pen and pressies for the relatives.
Also little India is the only place I can find Ashwagandha powder in Bkk.
In Australia we have a cold water washing powder called Coldpower ! 😃
Cheers Tony, Saphan Phut is a really impressive area!
I remember that TV commercial, I thought Mr. Bean had done a cameo. 555 ~~~ another great video, Pat. Keep up the good work! 🤙🏾
A walk through of Kahosan road would have been in order given your early reference. Love your vids
Just a suggestion, if you finished walking at the other end, the flower market is the other lively place at night but beer from 7-11 not a bar!
Hi khun Pat and khun May. Great video. Thanks
Thank you ka Khun Misha Lunin tomsk, glad you like the video! 🙏😊

LOVE it PAT :]
Thanks Ivor 😍
Good photography Pat! Been around those areas many times--looked pretty 'tout-less too'! Did you 'run them off'?
I didn't get approached by any but they are about apparently.
Good stuff 👏
Cheers Brendan.
Brings back memories of when I visited , very good video 😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it Geoffrey, cheers.
Really good pat
1:56 a sip of Chao Phraya River is sure to be healthy for the immune system 🤣😝
You mean the Khlong San Saeb canal? It's pretty dirty!
Whoaa, Pat & May a couples we want to cheer yeay 👍😄
Thank you @Daniel D SUTJIANTO 🙏😊
Thanks Daniel 😎
As you mentioned Pat, these places have been presented many times, but your take on these locations is mellow, informative, and humourous with a nice variety of tasteful well framed images. Great stuff. Champion belt man ! 🙂🖖
A bit of Thai culture based on Hindu and Buddhism influence. At Emerald Buddha Temple, you see a sculpture of Garuda fighting Naga decorating the temple's wall.
It is believed that Naga King is the underworld ruler and is a devout Buddhist disciple. Thus, sometimes you can see an image of Buddha meditating under the tree with Naga King guarding behind with his 7 heads above Buddha's head to protect him from wind/rain. There are also standalone Naga statute along Meking River on both sides of Thailand and Laos, the most famous of which is at Nakhon Phanom with 7 heads. It might be noted that one of the largest royal barge of Thai King has 7-heads Naga as its head. The mortal enemy of Naga is Garuda (a mythical flying beast) which is supposed to be God Rama's mount. Indonesia and Thailand deem Garuda as high class mythical beast and Indonesia's National Carrier is "Garuda". Garuda is also the official symbol of Thai King, thus official document would have Garuda symbol at its head. When there is an official royal announcement from the King or Palace, the initial TV screen features Garuda for a minute before the royal text appears together with reading sound.
King Rama III was also known as Merchant Prince because when he was still a prince he conducted trade with China and asked the ship captain to bring back stone sculptures such as Chinese deities, mythical beasts as stabilizing balance in the ship's belly. These stone sculptures are now commonly seen at Wat Pho, Wat Arun and the Grand Palace.
Wow, thanks for that stunning explanation. I couldn't have added all that to the video so just gave the basic idea
Nice video bud.
Is the museum new? Never noticed that before..
You are not the first to ask that. Must be quite new l suppose as l didn't see it open 2 months ago.
Wow ! Mr. Bean was in Thailand🤣
Happy CNY Pat , the Year of the Rabbit.
He was for a short while, yes! Then he got older and lost his boyish good looks😇
Omg the commercial, you were so cuteeeeee
Thanks, l certainly have changed not for the better!!!
Thumbs up!
One thing cropped up while watching, that has slightly worried me ever since I got to Thailand: Thai road signs indicate a place called Krungthep, Farangs signs show Bangkok. Geographically and historically, how did that happen?
Maybe they just want to keep the signs simple in english...
Little fact if I may, It's the only only hill, mountain in Bangkok. Great video once again.
Yes it is, and it nearly wasn't! Bkk would be an odd place with hills!
' Foreigner price' ,that sums this place up 😄
Yes, unfortunately it does.

What a well made and interesting VDO 👍 This has made me want to visit the Golden Mount Temple again !
Thanks Keith 😍
You were quite the handsome young man back in the day. Now you are just handsome.
Need your advice. I will have 4 nights in Bangkok late March to early April. What would you recommend for hotel (or area) and first visits? Thanks!
Sorry to reply so late!
If you want to be within easy reach of skytrain and centre, then Ratchathewi is a good place to look at, many hotels, next to BTS and canal boat for access to old city and many places to eat and drink, from street food to steak to craft beer! Another suggestion would be on the river, both Ibis Riverside and Quarter Chao Phraya are medium budget hotels with great views and connections to trains or boats.
Send me an email and I can give you more insider info.
Hey Pat. Do you have any of your dj mixes available on line? Here, Spotify, Soundcloud etc… I’m intrigued pal. Would love a listen to one of your old skool sets from back n the day! Kind regards Liam 👍
I was a DJ in the days before all that and I hardly made many mix tapes or CDs, a few old funky house or old skool hiphop about 20yrs ago.
Why are you always bloody late Pat?😂😂😂 The darling got you out of trouble😂😂😂😂
There's always an excuse with me. I should be better organised and wear a watch!
Did that sign at the Golden Mount actually say the way up to heaven in Thai???
I have no idea but the view is fantastic, a skyline without malls or condos towards the old city
Nice video Pat, I visited the Grand Palace after visiting Wat Pho in the noon before pandemic but at that time the underpass was not there. May be evening would've been better. Anyway, during that trip I was surprised to see the statues and paintings in Grand Palace which mainly consisted of Hanuman, Kinnara/Kinnari, Brahma, Garuda etc which were familiar to me since I knew about Ramayana epic.
It's a complex history l had no hope of fitting into 2 minutes so l stuck to the basics! Those subways have only recently opened, they will be very useful for rainy season!
@@BangkokPat Yes, I have watched all the videos of yours & Jeroen since 2020! Hence I was able to know about the updates regarding the subway from both of you!
That's a very beautiful young lady at 00:40 in your video. Nice scenes of you in your early Bangkok days.
I was a young man back then...those were the days!
I am yet to read Thai history properly. I need to spend time looking into the bookshelves... Any recommended titles?
I don't honestly know, but l look at a mix of Wiki, official websites and lonely planet if l want a simple explanation.
@@BangkokPat between us I'm glad you didn't mention authors or titles 🤣 I am guilty of taking interest to a fault; you will find a few thick volumes on Ottoman history on bookshelf, that kept me sane during the 2020 lockdown. Or did they 🤣
Wat Saket was 50 Baht some weeks ago... nice inflation...
Yes it was, it's a bit steep now....
BKK Pat got away because May was with him all the time! She filmed him, while he filmed her. Notice how both of them never appeared together in this video?
Nice videos and style I like Cheers from RoySoi
Thank you Roy!
