Another very interesting area of Bangkok I will have to visit love the many narrow alleys and the trees in the area. The Chinatown part of Bangkok has a very different overall vibe than other areas and you should also notice the Chinese women of the night lurking off the main roads. Almost feels as if you are no longer in Thailand in some ways. Wish you would write a guidebook about Bangkok Pat I could wander these places for days. Thank you for another great adventure.

I often have a walk in the streets around lower Charoen Krung. 10 years back it was really busy and difficult for pedestrians, but it gets more and more relaxed. Less traffic, the houses having new paints, there area less dirt, less people living there. But, with that there is also something which got lost.
Can remember a very funky Chinese temple on the backside of Wat Traimit, directly on Charoen Krung opposite of Odeon circle. The Temple was called Golden Shine Foundation and was actually a converted two Story Shop House, with lots of dragons, glitter and neon lights. Unfortunately this Shrine was scrapped when they build the new Wat Traimit complex in the early 2010s.
The whole area will be renovated and will look much more appealing, but will also lose their former charm.

Just viewed this super video. My wife's family initially lived in this area and some still do. They immigrated from china in the late 1800's and early 1900's and many never even learned to speak Thai. Most were merchants and had shops in the area. I explored this area in 1968-70 but due to lack of mobility now I can not return and greatly appreciate Bangkok Pat's video.

Thanks Bob it was definitely an experience walking around that area, lots of old buildings and architecture, history of course, all the dark sois and alleyways, the large numbers of cats hanging about, the art (some good, some just simply pretentious bullsh*t) all in such a small area. And of course the river being so close by was great as well.

I stumbled on Talad Noi by accident years ago when exploring some abandoned areas next to the river. The car was there and there was a diving club doing some dive lessons in that pool. I THINK I was there before it was an insta destination but not sure. I thought I'd discovered something truly original lol. I certainly did not see any hipsters strolling around and there definitely were no cafes at the time.

Nice one Pat. I never get tired of meandering around the alleys of Talad Noi area. So many places have been converted tastefully to cool cafes and restaurants without tearing the whole buildings down in recent years. Its refreshing to see some Thais appreciate the history and architecture they have in the area. Recently I was walking along the river between Sheraton and the art gallery. I came across some young guys fishing. I asked them in my horrible thai if they had caught anything and could I take a look? As fishermen everywhere are, they were happy to open their little coolers and show me their catch. This is a great way to break the ice with locals anywhere if you speak some of the language. Also, nice cat fight!

I really like China town especially for the out door food stalls. However my main reason I used to go down there was to visit Sampeng market to buy 100% cotton quilting cloth which I used to sell on ebay or have made up into Hawaiian style shirts for my self. I used to buy the cloth around 35 baht a yard.. Last time I checked it was 49 baht per yard. I used to find the Thai tailor sweat shops the sukumvite Indian tailors used to have my shirts made up.... How I found them, I used to hang obout outside the Indian tailors on my rented motor cycle and wait for a motorcyclist delivering suits to the tailor shops. I would then follow that motorcyclist back to whence he came from which was a tailoring workshop. By cutting out the Indian middle man and buying my cloth in China town I would save 60% on my tailoring of my shirts. I still have dozens of those shirts I still wear in the summer months

Hello! I watch your videos with great interest! But they are a bit too fast in the cutting. I wish each scene lasted a few more seconds. Well, just a wish from me! Thank you and all the best! Sincerely, Stein from Norway.

River View Hotel right in the middle of Tal;ad Noi. I didn't show it in this video as it still hadn't reopened yet. Great prices and excellent views from the right rooms, rooftop and nearby are some excellent coffee shops.
I've recommended a few others here too: www.riverviewbkk.com/

I walked through Soi Wanit 2 from Silom to Chinatown area back in 2017. Although felt very rundown and oily greasy, it does have some time capsule vibe back to 70s and 80s. I suppose those mechanical workshop operators are long retired now, their descendents left business abandoned.

That art was a load of bollocks mate, using cats for a cheap way to get a pat on the back for ''art'' ....................But it's a great place to wander around. I'll be back with the GF without a camera so can stroll and take it all in.

Bangkok Pat is one cool cat! I would love to know the purity of the Wat Traimit 'gold' buddha and whether it is only gold dip over cheaper, base metal. You omitted to mention the visit to Sampeng in Bangkok's Chinatown, in 1946, by King Ananda and his brother, Prince Bhumipol, shortly before Ananda's untimely death. Sampeng Lane is reknowned as a textile market where locals still come to buy their fabrics for tailoring. Opposite, across the river, are some interesting alleys where they filmed part of Good Morning Vietnam, with Robin Williams, in 1986.

It is very state affairs that Bangkok
canals are block off invaded by houses and sewage.Otherwise
nice boat trip can be provided
as they are a key to understanding
      history and culture.
