When I was 15 I found a book of yogananda ("metaphysical meditations") among my mother's books. I read it, and chanted OM every night. I found yogananda (and other gurus) were in my heart from many lifetimes of seeking. I lost my way and forgot for years, but then I have rediscovered this man who has touched me in a way most profound. I asked my mother, why did you own this book? Are you a secret devotee? No, she got it as a gift from a coworker years ago and never read it. It was there for me, I know.
I found his book at around 1965, aged 15. I hid it from my parents and was so grateful and excited to find this beautiful man. I was in love with him. That book helped me through some hard times as a teenager. I moved to Japan in my 20s to teach English and dont know what happened to my book. But Yogagnanda was the beginning of my search I believe. Now at age 73 I am still feeling that love. An open and guiding heart.
This is SO incredible! I dreamed about P.Yogananda when I was a young girl and recognized him from that dream at 22 when I got Autobiography of a Yogi. I remember walking into an SRF Temple in Phoenix AZ on a Christmas Eve - the only time the doors were open of my many walks there and desire to go in - there was an 8 hour meditation happening . . . I went in, sat quietly, gazed around in utter bliss, feeling like I finally arrived home.
What a beautiful story. Yes, just like finally arriving home! Yogananda has been with my since my teens through my godmum, but I was resistant to learning meditation for many years... until I first walked into the SRF temple in London - also at Christmas - and I remember the usher's smile to greet me at the door and the faces of the Masters' pictures at the altar, almost like they were saying "We've been waiting for you". Bliss beyond words.

Master came to me while I was asleep as a postulant in the SRF Encinitas Ashram, way back in 1971. Alas, i wasn't advanced enough to remember seeing him, but he blessed me as I woke up chanting 'My Divine Guru, my Divine Guru....' to his Cosmic Chant to Divine Mother -- same music but 'Guru' substituted for 'Mother.' And his gift to me was that I lay in supernal bliss, even encapsulating all my inner organs, all night.
This lovely song makes me both calm and sad. So many great teachers have come and gone.They have been our guides on the path towards enlightenment.Thank you for this video.

I found Yogananda in 1969. I read his biography then and knew who he is. But sadly (to me) he had left his mortal frame years prior. I knew that there must be someone alive who is what he is (I say that because PY lives). About a month later I saw a poster on a phone pole with a picture of Swami Satchidananda of Intregral Yoga Institute. He was scheduled to speak at the local Unitarian Church. While he was speaking, he looked at me and said, "Hm?" I recognized him and was surprised how quickly my prayer had been answered 🎉!❤ Krishna Das knows that feeling 😊

The directors had a wonderful actor play the part of our beloved Guru Ji, for those scenes, to bring the documentary to life... But it isn't him. My father died when I was 12 on the 27th of December 1971. Two months later a distant aunt of mine sent me the little book Metaphysical Meditations by Shri Yogananda and at 13 my spiritual journey had begun. At 17 God visited me, at 19 He took me into His heart, at 20 I met my own Guru, Baba Muktananda. My sadhana continues to this day.
