Sure the phone gets hot, but it still plays very smoothly as compared to my experiences w other phones. Idk, maybe I havent tried other phones too much. @@CatalystOfIntifadha For performance alone,no.There are great 600€ SD865 phones like the Poco F2 Pro,and i mean,every SD865 phone runs everything perfectly.Yes this phone is more complete,it has a better camera,stereo speakers,SD card slot,IP rating and a QHD display.But on the other hand,a 600€ phone like the Poco still has a bigger battery,charges faster,has IR Blaster,radio and its display has no notches,dots,drops etc etc. So yeah,the Sony is a bit better phone.But for 1200$,is it that better?No,it isn't,but if they just priced it 200$ lower it would slaughter the flagship competition definitely.Also 60hz for a 1200$ phone..
To me the problem with Sony mobile phones is the horrendous after sale service. Not to mention the phones age like cheap gas station wine so software support is bad. Overpriced too Shall I go on?

Are u high its because they dont advertise their phones barely the last time they were known in the phone department was the z2 that was back 2014 and they stopped advertising it everywere they make good phones update their phones like 3 to 4 years but their advertising is just bad I'm looking to buy this phone since my s9 got a pinkish screen and it's already 2 years and the battery has not held up well and hate hole punches nipple drops pill shaped cut outs and the filthy notch is the reason why I haven't brought a new flagship to replace my s9 this will be next phone when it comes out I hoped my s9 would of at least lasted longer
Sony for a long. long while has been good on paper but very bad in actual implementation. Their camera has the best hardware but failed to be optimized in software. They've also maintained their "vanilla" version in Android which failed to compete with Samsung. Not to mention their horrible update schedule.
Sony phones aren't available in most countries so it's harder to get a Sony phone than a Google Pixel in most countries.(it's hard enough to get a Google Pixel with non US bands)
I was tired of them putting shitty camera sensors and camera app while they give the best sensors to the competition. Owning 2 of their phones: Xperia Z and Xperia XZ1 (no OIS!) im really hurt from that policy.

I know it sounds like a silly thing to ask, but I use my light alot and for the last few years, all Sony phones have a very weak light compared to rivals. Hey there! You shouldn't expect a brighter flash on the Xperia 1 ii coz Sony phones generally use single LED flashes on their phones. Most of the others like iPhone etc. use dual LED flashes, hence, making them brighter. Maybe it is just that SONY doesn't pay attention to using a dual LED flash coz 99% of the people dont use flash anyway.....
I don't quite understand why you would change out a p30 pro for this... Especially thinking about the young age of the p30. They are totally different devices and you won't even get a better camera out of this exchange. Yeah the Sony is a manual beast but the p30 pro cannot be matched in its strong suits either by this phone.

Damn you missed out on a lot of shiznit. Sony has been a pioneer in tech the last decade. The fact everyone else copies them and has an actual marketing team is a problem for them though. How the turntables...
The camera button on this phone really puts everything together for a full package. You can basically take pictures now with eyes closed and do burst photos with amazing detail since this phone has crazy auto focus. That's one feature I love about Sony phones. Add to the fact you can have two camera apps, the camera button can open the Sony camera app and the double tap power button can open up another camera app. Gives you more options and choices. No idea why the camera button isn't even used anymore. It's so handy to use.
Great review!!! I'm really satisfied with my Xperia 1, but as far as I can see, Xperia 1 mark II is just a reality, upgrading most of the important aspects and including the 3.5 Jack. Go for it when possible!
Look goos. I used to work for Sony mobile before starting my company and I was very pleased from all of their devices. Especially the flagships. This one is masterpiece!
Nice one I can't wait to get my order in, here in the UK. The design is sleek, clean and stylish finally Sony are back to their best. Finally all the tech input is from Sony's separate divisions so it is nice to see it all come together in one product. The new Camera software is great as it mirrors that of the Alpha and RX range of Cameras.
Even the Sony Xperia z2 is a real classy phone back in the day.Once you pick it up the dream starts. This Sony 1 Mark II is a prime FLAGSHIP phone!👍👽Worthy in a special ship👽🌎

I bought the Xperia one after watching your review, it was stupid cheap money in January, 300 quid here in the UK. I have not been disappointed, a truly excellent camera, I have no trouble mixing phone footage with GH5 footage with a small colour correction. I might be tempted.
While I appreciate the 100s of settings and definitely agree that I am happy about the great sensors and lenses Sony has chosen, at the end of the day this is a mobile and most shots are taken in seconds. Straight out of the pocket, launch the app, select mode, take the shot and trust the mobile will nail the shot. 1. Video: So keen to know if this is as good or better than iPhone in 4k video in light and dark situations, without needing to go to pro camera apps, using regular, telephoto and ultra wide lenses. Also test ultra slow mode and macro shots please. Is there h265/HEVC on video? 2. Photo: Can it match Pixel and iPhone in stills e.g. good lighting, low lighting and astro shots again, without needing to go to the pro apps. Any HEIF on the Camera? 3. Even if using pro app how good is it at Astro shots? Also would be great if you can test and talk about: 1. Sound from front facing speakers 2. How good is the DAC and amp on the 2.5mm port 3. Color accuracy of the screen 4. Customization of home screen. Can I add on screen navigation back? 5. Actual real world battery life and charging speeds.
Yep. I'm buying it. The price is fair for what you're getting too. Literally no other competing phone has these specs and no other mobile manufacturer has the benefit of a whole camera division for casual and professional input. I'm excited.

I think people get caught in a I've hotter a better phone than you because of spesification of battery size or mpx count. When in reality you should find a phone that suits your needs for the purpose you want it for..
It’ll probably be the same lack of post processing / auto mode compared to the rest, but more natural result with better manual options. The quality lenses will be a great help as some phones you can see they have fringing
You DON'T NEED A COMPARISON!!! NO OTHER Phone can even hold with the Xperia 1 II ... The Camera is Completely different and Way Better than the other Mainstream Sensors. Xperia 1 II i on a Superior League!
I like this guy. He's articulate, easy to listen to, and posts good and useful reviews. Followed. That said, I think I'm sold. This will likely be my next phone model purchase. Clearly I'm a huge fan of Sony, having owned half a dozen Xperia devices, but despite that, based on my experiences only, my honest opinion is that there's really no substitute for a flagship Sony smart phone. So, obviously I'll be looking forward to this one. Here's hoping it'll become available to the Canadian carrier market though, as I'd like to be able to acquire one of these without paying outright, like I've often had to do in the past.

This phone has everything one would need: headphone jack, snapdragon 865, no-notch and a great display. Maybe I would sacrifice the 4K resolution for a higher refresh rate as there's no point on having such a huge res on a tiny phone display, but that's just my personal opinion. The fact it comes with jack and a real full display still runs me nuts.
I haven't had one since my Z2 but it's been my favourite phone to date. They're always very sleek, I found Samsung's UI always a bit childish, kinda like if comic sans font was a UI
This wasn't even on my radar - but now it is. I now saw that Sony has hinted at a Pro version with HDMI input from a camera. I'm really keeping an eye on them now. And Sony hasn't given up on audio in a phone pleases me. Damn...
Haven't been genuinely excited for a Sony phone in a long long time. This phone looks good and RAW support is added for all three camera systems, then boy oh boy, it's gonna be a huge sell for photographers out there and this'll be good competition for Apple and their iPhones. Gotta love healthy competition!
I've wanted to go to a Sony phone for such a long time. I'm running on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 that I saved up forever for and I love it, but it doesn't even last all too long any more in terms of battery. Still a wonderful phone though, as much as I'm sure the Xperia 1 ii is.
I think Xperia will make a small comeback with this phone, as it lacks almost nothing, maybe the battery could be a bit bigger, but anything else is perfect and combined with the USA release it seems very promising

Thank you so much for this video, and I have just watched your review of the Huawei P30 too... your reviews are a breath of fresh air in a world of bias and spec hunting. In your opinion, of the two (and considering the possible upgrades in the P40 pro) which have a better still camera? I mainly take outdoor shots, beaches, landscapes and the like as a little bit of a hobby (nothing fancy), but would obviously like something that I can use as a quick point and shoot too.

Now I'm not a guy who's always running for the newest tech or phone. Every phone I owned I had at least for 3-6 years before updating to a new one. Last year I bought the Xperia 1 mainly because my Z2 had a swollen battery and it didn't make sense to repair. But now I'm actually considering buying this one... It's impressive, the camera update is huge and the design, little changes but oh man do I like it.
Only few know how to review phone camera section and dear Sir you are one of them. It's pricey but still great to buy one cause the new design look great and better handering for shooting. May you have a good day and take precious care.

I guess I never thought about this way until I watched this video, but having a phone camera that has the same interface and features as my big boy camera makes A LOT of sense to have. I don't always want to have my a9 on me, and I rarely shoot pictures or video with my phone because of the quality and feature differences. This really does make a lot of sense to me!

Sony should definitely continue down this line. they seem to have found their market, and they should latch on as hard as possible. this phone stands out in the sea of flagships.

Finally a real review and very professional as well 😁😁 please could you tell me what the flash/torch is like on this phone? I know it sounds like a silly thing to ask, but I use my light alot and for the last few years, all Sony phones have a very weak light compared to rivals. I will be selling my Huawei p30 Pro for this baby, so I'd like to be sure about this option. Would really appreciate it if you could check this out 😁
Hey there! You shouldn't expect a brighter flash on the Xperia 1 ii coz Sony phones generally use single LED flashes on their phones.
Most of the others like iPhone etc. use dual LED flashes, hence, making them brighter.
Maybe it is just that SONY doesn't pay attention to using a dual LED flash coz 99% of the people dont use flash anyway.....

I don't quite understand why you would change out a p30 pro for this... Especially thinking about the young age of the p30.
They are totally different devices and you won't even get a better camera out of this exchange. Yeah the Sony is a manual beast but the p30 pro cannot be matched in its strong suits either by this phone.

So I sold it.. it's annoying to have to edit every single picture for it to look good. I have a pixel now.. and edit almost none. Pics are perfect in one shot.. I'm hoping this phone is about the same. Or will just upgrade to pixel 4/5 my three is broken and will die soon I think.

The camera button on this phone really puts everything together for a full package. You can basically take pictures now with eyes closed and do burst photos with amazing detail since this phone has crazy auto focus. That's one feature I love about Sony phones. Add to the fact you can have two camera apps, the camera button can open the Sony camera app and the double tap power button can open up another camera app. Gives you more options and choices. No idea why the camera button isn't even used anymore. It's so handy to use.

I bought the Xperia one after watching your review, it was stupid cheap money in January, 300 quid here in the UK. I have not been disappointed, a truly excellent camera, I have no trouble mixing phone footage with GH5 footage with a small colour correction. I might be tempted.
While I appreciate the 100s of settings and definitely agree that I am happy about the great sensors and lenses Sony has chosen, at the end of the day this is a mobile and most shots are taken in seconds. Straight out of the pocket, launch the app, select mode, take the shot and trust the mobile will nail the shot.
1. Video: So keen to know if this is as good or better than iPhone in 4k video in light and dark situations, without needing to go to pro camera apps, using regular, telephoto and ultra wide lenses. Also test ultra slow mode and macro shots please. Is there h265/HEVC on video?
2. Photo: Can it match Pixel and iPhone in stills e.g. good lighting, low lighting and astro shots again, without needing to go to the pro apps. Any HEIF on the Camera?
3. Even if using pro app how good is it at Astro shots?
Also would be great if you can test and talk about:
1. Sound from front facing speakers
2. How good is the DAC and amp on the 2.5mm port
3. Color accuracy of the screen
4. Customization of home screen. Can I add on screen navigation back?
5. Actual real world battery life and charging speeds.

Yep. I'm buying it. The price is fair for what you're getting too. Literally no other competing phone has these specs and no other mobile manufacturer has the benefit of a whole camera division for casual and professional input. I'm excited.

I think people get caught in a I've hotter a better phone than you because of spesification of battery size or mpx count. When in reality you should find a phone that suits your needs for the purpose you want it for..
It’ll probably be the same lack of post processing / auto mode compared to the rest, but more natural result with better manual options. The quality lenses will be a great help as some phones you can see they have fringing
You DON'T NEED A COMPARISON!!! NO OTHER Phone can even hold with the Xperia 1 II ... The Camera is Completely different and Way Better than the other Mainstream Sensors. Xperia 1 II i on a Superior League!

Clearly I'm a huge fan of Sony, having owned half a dozen Xperia devices, but despite that, based on my experiences only, my honest opinion is that there's really no substitute for a flagship Sony smart phone.

Here's hoping it'll become available to the Canadian carrier market though, as I'd like to be able to acquire one of these without paying outright, like I've often had to do in the past.

This phone has everything one would need: headphone jack, snapdragon 865, no-notch and a great display. Maybe I would sacrifice the 4K resolution for a higher refresh rate as there's no point on having such a huge res on a tiny phone display, but that's just my personal opinion. The fact it comes with jack and a real full display still runs me nuts.
The only Xperia I had was the Z3V and I loved it
I haven't had one since my Z2 but it's been my favourite phone to date. They're always very sleek, I found Samsung's UI always a bit childish, kinda like if comic sans font was a UI
This wasn't even on my radar - but now it is. I now saw that Sony has hinted at a Pro version with HDMI input from a camera. I'm really keeping an eye on them now. And Sony hasn't given up on audio in a phone pleases me. Damn...

Haven't been genuinely excited for a Sony phone in a long long time. This phone looks good and RAW support is added for all three camera systems, then boy oh boy, it's gonna be a huge sell for photographers out there and this'll be good competition for Apple and their iPhones. I've wanted to go to a Sony phone for such a long time. I'm running on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 that I saved up forever for and I love it, but it doesn't even last all too long any more in terms of battery. Still a wonderful phone though, as much as I'm sure the Xperia 1 ii is.

Thank you so much for this video, and I have just watched your review of the Huawei P30 too... your reviews are a breath of fresh air in a world of bias and spec hunting.
In your opinion, of the two (and considering the possible upgrades in the P40 pro) which have a better still camera? I mainly take outdoor shots, beaches, landscapes and the like as a little bit of a hobby (nothing fancy), but would obviously like something that I can use as a quick point and shoot too.
If you want manual controls, it's hard to beat the Photo and Cinema Pro apps on the Sony.
I love what I'm seeing in this phone! Only wish that it had 5G mm wave capability. So I'll keep an eye out for the pro version too since that has it.

Now I'm not a guy who's always running for the newest tech or phone. Every phone I owned I had at least for 3-6 years before updating to a new one. Last year I bought the Xperia 1 mainly because my Z2 had a swollen battery and it didn't make sense to repair. But now I'm actually considering buying this one... It's impressive, the camera update is huge and the design, little changes but oh man do I like it.
The phone of my dreams, literally! Great preview man, I would love to see it against the Samsung Potato Ultra and the Huawei P40 Pro.

I guess I never thought about this way until I watched this video, but having a phone camera that has the same interface and features as my big boy camera makes A LOT of sense to have. I don't always want to have my a9 on me, and I rarely shoot pictures or video with my phone because of the quality and feature differences. This really does make a lot of sense to me!
Now Sony make a compact version of this with the same 256gb, chipset, and 4000 mah
