- Amazing to experience this EXTREMELY RARE Ration from Steve1989. This ration was produced for only 1 year and included some unique items such as the FRUIT SOUP.

I just had my first round cookie chocolate covered. It was actually from a first year production run mre from 1981. It was very tasty. Those FD bars are awesome. It makes you wonder why they didn't continue to make them that way. Steve was telling me how he snacked on some on a plane ride one time. I'll be grateful for the bar you sent me. I'd like to just add that to a RCW review here really really soon. I'm sure the oxygen and moisture in the air will start taking its toll very quickly. So I'll definitely consume that very soon after I receive it. Thanks for thinking of me for this unique experience.

RC im thinking you could recreate the fruit soup by combining raspberry jello powder with raspberry kool-aid powder with a 2 part kool-aid 1 part jello powder. loved the review...cheers and applause

@@rcgusto2427 hasp comrade, love the videos. Just a little tip for your powder stuff like fruit soup and bullion etc etc
You need to add a tiny bit of water to the powder, barely enough to make a paste, add a little more and mix till a looser paste is formed, continue adding small amount, barely enough to dampen it, until eventually. You have a thick goop, at that point you can add the rest of the water and no lumps
I LOVE compressed freeze dried stuff. It ALWAYS tastes better than ready made shitty mres and lasts forever, not only that but it's lighter and your get more. It's simply a better process in every way possible. Lasts longer, lighter, more of it, smaller.
Yoou may already know this but you can still buy raspberry soup at www.thereadystore.com/mre-fruit-beverage-raspberry. It's made by the original contractor that made it for the 1989 RCW and it's on sale for a mere 39 cents a pack.
You Sir are a brave man.. That orange drink would have not passed muster with me... I wouldn't have added water or even pout it out of the packet.. it would be in the garbage within seconds... Wow!!!
pretty sure you're supposed to add water to those powders slowly to dissolve properly... kinda like adding water to flour. i imagine the raspberry soup tastes like some kind of jelly version of angel delight
If you like the fruit soup try a slavic kissel, I think it's easiest to get either russian or polish.It's thicker than the soup but if you made it with more water than necessary it would be exactly like this! It's pretty much just fruit juice with some starch.
Good review, would have added some of the nut mix to the oatmeal for body and sweetness and would have passed on the raspberry soup.

A little suggestions for a good treat is to take either cookie bar or both together and break them up into a cup of hot coco. Give a little time for it all to combine to make a warm tasty dessert.
The fruit soups actually are still found in some European rations, ie, Norwegian fruktsuppe. Cold and warm fruit soups are very common in Scandinavian, Baltic, Eastern European, Central Europe and Nordic cuisines. Here in the US cold fruit soups are common in the summertime. All you have to do and Google "fruit soup" and you can find lots of really good recipes, one of my favorites is the mixed berry, watermelon and citrus strawberry all good hot or cold (cold also is called gazpacho if you want to sound fancy).
Now just the basics of Chicken à la King is that it made with diced chicken in a cream sauce typically containing sherry along with vegetables such as mushrooms, onions, peas, red pepper and carrots that can be served over either rice, pasta, potatoes, biscuits or any other type of bread. So looking at what you made was just a bit to thick in consistency, needed more water and also from the looks it didn't have noodles. Noodles don't freeze dry that we'll in block form, if you look at any other type of freeze dried foods with pasta it's really just typical dried pasta.

I would have added one of the raisan nut mixes to the oatmeal. I like the crunchy fruit nut mix oatmeal better than just the maple brown sugar kind.

What replaced the cold weather rations?
fewR- the 24hr RCW was replaced by individual meals--the Meal Cold Weather (MCW). You'd need 3 per day.

Raspberry Soup
2 cups raspberries
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
1/2 cup white wine
In a food processor or blender, purée the raspberries with the water and sugar until smooth. Transfer the purée to a bowl, and whisk in the wine. Chill well.

checkmaster1965 lol most armed forces guys will joke about the MREs they were given on the field. It's not to be mean, most soldiers don't like it either, it's just food that was freeze dried to last longer since they can't cook a home cooked meal every day that's all. No hard feelings from the reviewers - hell, some reviewers are nicer than my own father was about MREs (and my father was an army guy lol)
