I have a 33 year old Beaufort from 1989, with some wear to the lining and sleeve seams but that adds to the character. After a waxing it looks superb. Also have a rustic Bedale that's 2018 and still looks new despite a lot of wear, especially after waxing it at home. Excellent jackets, the ones made in England, anyway. 👌
Hey Rob, I got a Beaufort jacket from 1993 and its do have those white scratches, either leftovers of wax or whatever. I’ve used to think, that rewax will fix it, but somehow after drying theyre coming back. Ive tried to heat up it with hair dryer, somehow it works, but some of them is still there. Do you have a hint of getting rid of them or its permanently? Thx in advance.
Bought my Barbour Beaufort four years ago and wear it year around. It is very distinctive for the area that I reside in. I can wear it with a sweathirt, Harris Tweed sport coat or my dress suit which is what makes it so versatile and fun to wear.
I got my first Barbour coat earlier this year and I could not be happier. The quality far exceeded my hopes, looks amazing, fits amazing and the quality is sublime. Worth every penny and then some. I wish I bought one long ago to be honest - alas! But at least I know now.
I love my classic Beaufort. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne, which is very close to South Shields where the Beaufort is made. It’s made to exactly the same specification as it was when it was first made, years ago. I know someone who works in the Barbour factory and the workers are so proud of the jackets they make. Never throw away a classic Barbour jacket, send it to be repaired, it’s a badge of honour to have it repaired! A classic Barbour will be passed down generations
@@OneManReviews you can visit the factory and they have a shop where you can buy unique sample jackets for up to 70% off retail price. Barbour is the biggest employer in South Shields and the jackets are literally made by hand, often by generations of families who have worked there for years and years.
I wore bedale on Canadian prairies 3 seasons for 4 years. Winter used a down midlayer. Its still mint condition. Strong cold winter storms and wind, minus 25c, no issues. Waxed twice.
I have a 15 year old Barbour Border jacket with the extra hood and woollen inner with the tartan lining. Waxed every year without fail and it’s “fully waterproof” and warm when you need it. Old school and a classic, top class for all weather conditions
My Barbour Classic is the Moorland model that I bought in 1997. Repairs to the lining and sleeves were executed in North Carolina; fabrics were well-matched. The frayed cuffs were repaired with leather trim. The Moorland fabric is heavier than the Beaufort but the cut is identical.
I sell preloved barbour jackets online and I'm extremely impressed with the durability of these jackets. I've found a few pieces from even the 70s that were in pretty good shape. I personally wear the Beaudale model and i love it
I grew up in Sussex, in the south of England. My parents bought me a Barbour for my 18th birthday. That was over 40 years ago, and back then it was a country jacket - anyone wearing one in a city was a rural stray! I have worn mine in all conditions. Done up (only really comfortable once the temperature is below freezing), it has kept me dry in the most brutal conditions. While I lived in the UK, I waxed it every year, when I got it out of storage, as Autumn started to get wet and windy. That made a huge difference. I am about to visit Sussex, so I got the jacket out to look over before packing. I am having to have it repaired (a small tear) for the first time. To be fair, I do look after clothes carefully, and now live in Singapore, so I wore it frequently only for the first 15 years. I was looking for guidance on rewaxing, as it has been a few years since I have even unpacked the jacket, and came across your video. I enjoyed your perspective, and it's interesting to see how it stands up elsewhere.
@@OneManReviews There's no Barbour centre in Singapore. It's with a Shanghainese tailor in town. He passes even my wife's exacting standards, so I'm hopeful the repair will be sound.
I live in Georgia in the US and Barbour jackets are the perfect jacket for the South. Our winters are generally milder compared to Canada or the North but wet. A Barbour Beaufort is the absolute perfect jacket here. I have a Classic Beaufort, a Thornproof Beaufort that is 33 yrs old and a Thornproof Bedale that is brown. I think the Bedale looks the best but the Beaufort is the better all around jacket for everyday wear. I have a pile lining for the Classic Beaufort and the jacket and liner together are more than adequate for the coldest weather we will get (lows in the 20s). I have worn the Classic Beaufort as an overcoat over a coat and tie on a trip to NYC in November and it was perfect. A Barbour over a wool sweater is warm enough for all but the coldest weather we get. I will say, repair costs from Barbour are pretty high. I recently sent my old Thornproof Beaufort in for a repair to a half dollar sized hole in the sleeve and I was sort of surprised at a cost of $60 for the repair only, they did not rewax the jacket. I will generally rewax my jackets myself every 3 or 4 years and send them back to Barbour for a professional rewaxing every 5 or 6 years. .
I wear around 50 years Barbour jackets. They are good quality jackets but you get wear and tear in them, just like many other things. Sending a jacket to be fixed to the factory doesn't make sense if you're not living in the UK. The costs are to high, the same as waxing. Better do it yourself and buy a new jacket when it's necessary.
@@fbcpraise Sorry for the delay in response. No, Barbour jackets are perfect for the climate in Georgia. They are not heavy jackets at all and the waterproof nature makes them ideal for our drizzly winter weather.
For my 60th Birthday, I've just received my 2nd Barbour Border jacket from my wife, this time in Navy Blue, rather than the traditional Sage Green. My first, which is still being worn, I purchased in 1988, the same year as I met my wife !! Like myself, my original Barbour shows the ravages of time so it's going back to Barbour for two patches, a clean and a re-wax ... it's not done yet ...
I just received my first ever Barbour jacket, the classic Bedale. However, I noticed that there were only two royal crests shown on my tag instead of the usual three crests. So, I started panicking thinking maybe I purchased a counterfeit. After looking up online, Barbour removed Prince Philip’s crest after he passed away in April 2021. It turns out that products that carry royal warrants, such as Barbour, have two years to remove a royal member’s coat of arms when one passes away or relinquishes one’s royal title. 😮 I guess Barbour will have to remove the Queen’s crest after her recent death, and they will change Charle's title to “His Majesty the King”.
First congrats on the jacket! This is interesting information. Just checked online and looks like you're right about that. Is your jacket still made in England?

I have four Beauforts in various stages of disrepair could not manage without them. Plus a tin of wax and hair dryer. The poacher pocket is very useful for shopping.
I live in Montreal and I don’t think I saw more than 2 people wearing a Beaufort since I moved here. In my opinion, it’s what it defines you as a unique guy - ok let’s say immigrant from Europe - it’s pretty common French people ask me where I bought it, because they can’t find one here - or for a reasonable price (bought mine for less than 200 euros on Stuart’s London) Of course it won’t be as protective as an - made in China - Arc teryx jacket, but just because of the game pocket and the new anti plastic bags law, it is really cool and practical to wear it!
I love Barbour coats. In a similar vein, the belstaff tourmaster waxed cotton jackets serve a very similar purpose, but have a bit more of a fitted look which may suit younger people a little more.

Previously had two Beauforts, I've found that the inner side of the arms get punctured easily by the zip to the game pocket at the back, so much so, it was perforated with tears and holes which greatly annoyed my old lady no end. She detests wax jackets, especially if they have any holes in them. I would also advise not wearing any backpacks with Barbours, the straps will eventually wear out the cotton and cause tears and holes at the shoulder area which then really compromises water resistance.

This is the classic Olive colour. The only colour available in classic model. With regular Beaufort you have other colour choices. If you want the classic Beaufort it's only one colour.

Hi, I just purchased my first Barbour Ashby, and I was wondering if you have any tips for the regular care and cleaning of your Barbour Jacket. I know it can't be washed and should only be wiped with a damp cloth. However, does it really not develop any odor or stains over time?
I use brush for cleaning the dust or wet cloth for stains. My Barbours haven't developed any odour. But it's the nature of waxed materials that they are aging.
@@OneManReviews it’s beautifully cut and looks like a million bucks! I took a chance buying one without trying on first. Worked out for me really well.
It’s a country jacket so it’s meant to endure some hardship. I’d say it’s not an issue because you’re supposed to get it re-waxed every couple of years anyway. It might lead to interesting fabric colour wear as it ages if you wear a backpack all the time but overall I’d say go for it.
I use mine mostly when rough shooting in the fields. The game pocket is perfect to store spare ammunition boxes, gloves when not needed, a pulling rope, a scarf and other stuff. It replaces a small backpack.

Altitude Sports, Sporting Life, Lost and Found shoplostfound.com/products/barbour-beaufort-wax-jacket-sage?ktk=YmtBc1JRLTlhYWNmOWZhYWY0
Does Orvis have a store near you? They carry them.
@@larrymccready5636 I don't think there are Orvis stores in Canada. But we have other stores that carry Barbour.
Did I miss re-wax content??? I’m building up the courage to tackle my Belstaff…
I made a video about my rewaxing process with Barbour some time ago. Which Belstaff jacket do you have?
@@OneManReviews Black Trailmaster. Started with a Barbour International but fell in love with sheen that the Belstaff has.
Trailmaster is nice. I like the design. Unfortunately I never had a chance to try it on.
@@OneManReviews it’s beautifully cut and looks like a million bucks! I took a chance buying one without trying on first. Worked out for me really well.
I love my defence ❤
Well I have a BB Pro Gmt then I am getting the same coat. :)
That's a great package :)
What brand are these gloves? 0:48
The brand is Peter James for Harris Tweed
Can you wear a backpack with this, would that remove the wax?
It’s a country jacket so it’s meant to endure some hardship. I’d say it’s not an issue because you’re supposed to get it re-waxed every couple of years anyway. It might lead to interesting fabric colour wear as it ages if you wear a backpack all the time but overall I’d say go for it.
How do you wash a Barbour jacket?
With sponge and brush.
Why did'nt you buy the sage one? I want to have it too
Because I wanted the classic Beaufort.
@@OneManReviews i thought the same ;)
Where did you purchase jacket?
Sporting Life in Toronto.
I LOVE it!!!!!
Thank you!
Would you like to share with us what you keep in the rear game pocket?😀
I use mine mostly when rough shooting in the fields. The game pocket is perfect to store spare ammunition boxes, gloves when not needed, a pulling rope, a scarf and other stuff. It replaces a small backpack.
I think he means they attract women like crazy! 😮
Why do people not rewax their jackets in the garden on a hot summer day where the wax goes on easier and melts faster by the heat of the sun ?
Hard to say. Maybe because it will collect all the dust from outside.
@@OneManReviews Great point you made , though I never had a problem with dirt or dust sticking to it , as I wait until there is little or no breeze
cant decide betwene beaufort and ashby
I love my Beauforts, but if you want a slimmer fit Ashby is a good option.
Got the bedale and it's not that Olive Green, IS still brown😢
There are two main Bedale models - classic and regular. The classic one has the "proper" olive colour. The regular comes with different colours.
@@OneManReviews got the classic one ;) hope it going to turn olive soon ;)
Loved the video. In Canada, one Barbour jacket costs us the same as our national GDP. You've spent a lot to look like a homeless person. I have a similar looking wax/cotton jacket made in Canada but it has developed a mold smell that I just can't get out completely. Would love to find a used Barbour.
I live in England. Used barbour jackets are pretty cheap over here. Just bought bedale jacket for £70. Looks brand new. Just out of interest how much are barbour jackets in Canada?
About $500@@dave.1981
You won't see it in Canada because we're cheap and only wear Kirkland Signature.
Kirkland T-shirts are not bad :)
I've had one since 2016, wore it 3 times, it stinks.
I have a Drovers Jacket it was £300
as it gets exposed to the elements you wont be able to smell it anymore
Mine is from 1985 ,you should smell it?😁

The new ones today, not made in England has gotten really bad. These old ones still good, however.
I think that classic Beaufort and Bedale still made in England.
@@OneManReviews From what I have understood they are.
It just sucks to see them follow the trend of the race to the bottom with some of their products, as it makes me lose trust and respect for the company, even if they still have some great lines of jackets for sale, makes me think twice.
Old jacket doesn't make you look like a hobo. At least, not in England.
yes, it needs to be sage green. blue is terrible. the coat is designed for hunting. In the UK it should be green, if youre in the artic, then fine, you can have your navy one. Black is terrible, rust is ok
Yes, I recently got a black Ashby and it wasn't the best idea :) At the same time I am ok with my navy Beaufort.
The Beaufort is a bit cheesey, imo
the thing is my friend they wear the back of the siociol jack of the jews.
my frieinds from the Tyne were hard bastardards] from the
Sorry but I can’t stand waxed cotton jackets. They feel cold all the time. Ugh!
That's ok. Unlike the Bon Jovi music wax cotton jackets are not for everyone :)
Middle class problems par excellence. Spend more time with your kids instead of making free advertisment.
Please stop saying "WOX" Jacket ... it is "WAX" spoken "WAAX". Also, most Barbour Jackets are made in Poland ... unfortunately, the sizes are now European and not British so you need to get one size lager than the old British size !
Guys do not wear Barbour if you're not married.
Why that?
Why not? I always had them as a child. Kinda want one now, now that I think about it.
No, wear it.
You won’t miss a man’s personality in a jacket.
All about the fit and details (tech).
Obnoxious comment.
Why? Do you wanna kiss me or something
7 years isn’t worn in yet 😁
Not as much as I was expecting
I'm sorry but I don't see the appeal. Looks like a potato sack.
There's no need to be sorry!
