    Teaching your children in a world where these skills will be needed more in the future is a blessing. Really think we will be going back to the past where the old skills will be needed.

    I seen a post where the lady didn't give her recipe but she did say instead of water amount she used Apple cider vinegar. Have you heard of this before, then she used essential oils of her choice. So she would make, rosemary apple shampo bars, and lavandar apple shampo bars and so on. Just wondering what you thought, she said she does the apple cider vinegar because it is so good for your hair. Thanks. Blessings

      Daily a general wipe I also use a chain link scrubber. Occasionally we use soap pads.

    Out of concern be sure to avoid breathing the fumes from the lye.

    I totally love this, but there is a warning to be careful using homemade soaps if you are on a septic system

    • @mommabear2many
      @mommabear2many  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why? Never had an issue here we have been on septic for 18 years.

    Do you have to have separate mixers and bowls for the soap or can you just clean a regular bowl? I hope that makes sense. 🤪

    • @mommabear2many
      @mommabear2many  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have separate I purchased most at the thrift store. Just make sure no aluminum.

    How do you have so many hours in the day? You get so much done! But then I remind myself you’re probably just a little older than my children, but not by much. For dish soap
    I’ll stick to Dawn, and I must admit I use quite a bit. But I can see how you would want to try this. My mother had eczema. She could only use Dove soap. Her fingers would crack. Mine did when I was younger, so it must be the brand I was using.
    My mother developed painful cracks in her feet as well in her 80’s. I suggested she change the soap and detergents she was using, but she didn’t, and the doctors didn’t seem to go that route - I have little faith in doctors!. So I definitely believe in doing what you can to avoid skin sensitivity and be as natural as possible.
    Something about the Swedish heritage. Norwegians and Swedes preserve Cod fish in lye. Then they rinse the lye off and boil or bake it, and serve it with butter or cream sauce. It’s called lutefisk. There’s many jokes about it and the smell. I don’t think it smells bad. It needs to be cooked just right or it ends up being slimy. Here in Minnesota churches have lutefisk dinners in the late fall and winter.
    My daughter was in a lutefisk eating contest at the Nordic Fest in Iowa in July.
    So lye has multi purposes. 🤓

    What is the difference between bath soap, dishwasher or shampoo bar? Cannot see any??

    • @mommabear2many
      @mommabear2many  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes if you put the recipe side by side they are quite different. Body soap uses goats milk and various fats. Shampoo uses fats and butters. Dish soap is mainly coconut oil and castor oil castor will make a lot more suds. If you just used coconut oil with castor for your body it would be very drying. Basically you need to know the composition of the oils you are using and why. But yes quite different. You can use the goats milk bar soap for hair but I would not use dish for body or hair.

    Does the lye cause skin irritation? It seems like a very harsh chemical as well. Are there lye alternatives?

    • @mommabear2many
      @mommabear2many  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All soap including commercial soap are made with lye. The FDA does not allow something without lye to be labeled as soap. It just doesn’t need to be listed.

    I can see the kids leaving the soap in the water then it goes all slimmy on sink unless u have a dish soap dish I use organic soap liquid me I can’t stand soap full stop too much mess and with body soap goes near private parts then next person uses it I couldn’t think of anything more in hygiene than that

    • @mommabear2many
      @mommabear2many  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Everyone has their own way. Is been under 100 years since people started using commercial soaps. Now I can’t imagine wiping myself or my children in chemicals. So whatever works for each person is what right for there families.

      I doubt people rub the bar itself on their bodies. You would lather it in whatever cloth or loofa you use.

      @foorlife632 no I know people who put. Soap on bodies and don’t use face washers kids are good at doing it
