I never had pants like that but I was down front during George's solo's at Monsters of Rock 1988! The funny part was that I went to the stage after I thought Metallica was finished. Nope. They came back for an encore of "Battery" and I was in the pit. 🤣 I didn't particularly want to mosh that day but I did not have a choice. So, I moshed and then got to see George's playing close to the stage. 🎸🎶🎶
Most people tried to call them one of the hair bands. They actually came out long before the start of the hair bands. You should really listen to the dream warriors. Wrote for nightmare on elm street 3.
The German power/prog metal band, Vanden Plas did an excellent cover of this song as a bonus track on their "Far Off Grace" album. I highly recommend it.
May want to do studio versions with these guys at least for the first time. They do not have a rhythm guitarist and George is also throwing additional runs in where there should be rhythm guitar. They are actually killing it right here but unless you know the song it may not seem that way. Heaven Sent is a fire track.

Dokken (pronounced "dock - ken") emerged from the L.A. scene in the 80's but both Don Dokken (vocals), Mick Brown (drums) and George Lynch (guitar) were veterans of the local rock scene there since the 70's. Don Dokken even went to West Germany to attempt to get a record deal where he struck up Lynch and Brown for his new band... he met German rockers Scorpions there and was enlisted in 1981 to rehearse w/ the band for the 1982 album 'Blackout', while Scorpions singer Klaus Meine was recuperating from a throat surgery and unable to sing. The newly formed band Dokken recorded the album 'Breaking the chains' w/ Ratt bassist Juan Croucier... it was finally released in the US in 1983 as Jeff Pilson (bass) joined Dokken. The record failed commercially but got some MTV exposure... their 2nd album 'Tooth and nail' was a bigger hit, thanks to the power ballad "Alone again" ... getting on MTV... along w/ video singles for 'Just got lucky'... 'Into the fire'... (Guitarist George Lynch was filmed on an actual volcano for 'Just got lucky'... and apparently, it started to erupt and Lynch had to be quickly airlifted) Dokken was a powerful live band... This live clip was not embellished w/ studio tracks... it was recorded live. More platinum records came in 1985 - 'Under lock and key'... and 1987 - 'Back for the attack'... which resulted in the stellar live album 'Beast from the East' recorded in Japan. Unfortunately, Don and Lynch were constantly at odds in the studio and could barely work together in 1987... Dokken's split was messy when they toured in 1988 w/ Van Halen and Metallica... they were blown away by Metallica (an opening band on the tour) every night and at the end of the tour, Don had enough... Dokken was over by early 1989. Some of Dokken's other hits - "It's not love" ... 'Dream Warriors' ... 'The Hunter' ... 'Heaven sent'. Don was unable to use the Dokken band name legally and had to release his album 'Up from the ashes' in 1990 as Don Dokken. Lynch and Brown formed the band Lynch Mob and released 2 albums w/ different singers - 'Wicked Sensation' and 'Lynch Mob'... both failed commercially... Jeff Pilson joined singer Ronnie James Dio's band Dio in 1993. In 1994, Dokken reunited and released a comeback album 'Dysfunctional' in 1995... but it was a far different rock record from their 80's albums in the 90's grunge rock era...it yielded a radio hit - 'Too high to fly'... It was followed by an acoustic 'Unplugged' album in 1996 - 'One live night'... However, their 1997 album 'Shadowlife' was a grunge rock album and Don was not happy w/ Lynch's attempt to appeal to 90's music fans... George Lynch was fired in 1998 Dokken continued to record, releasing 'Erase the slate' in 1999 and 'Long way home' in 2002... bassist Jeff Pilson left the band in 2001 and Don and Mick Brown have carried on w/ Dokken... However, both Don Dokken and Mick Brown have been suffering from health issues and Mick left Dokken eventually... George Lynch eventually reconciled w/ Don and performed w/ Dokken as a guest musician.

Can tell they're focusing a little more than they should on being showy. Probably the cocaine. That and George's 'roids. Lots of singles and always just on the verge of breaking through but never quite doing it. This might have been the last time they were able to tell themselves, "the next album is going to be the one that does it" (Edit: just checked and, yup, called it quits, but at least they did it at their peak) The thing I really respect about them is that while they did do the spandex and hairspray thing, they never went FULL clown show like so many pop-"metal" bands of the day did.

The Fire Department showed up and sprayed their water hose all over the place. Ah, good times, man. It's the concert that made me fall in love with Metallica, actually. I was more into the Dokken, Ratt, and Randy Rhoads guitar wizardry stuff, but Metallica stole the show and blew me away.

Yeah, Dokken were never as tight as they could have been live, at least back then, probably because George (the guitarist) and Don (the singer) couldn't stand each other. And George always insisted on going off script, as it were, never playing exactly like the album.
Dokken also played "Dream Warriors", the theme song to Freddy Kreugar's (3rd?;) "Nightmare on Elm St." movie. So they kinda ruled that one year. (btw, Maddy, Dokken sounds like dockin' ;)
They're from LA. They toured Germany a lot early on and even spent a lot of time there in 1981 hoping to get a recording contract. You know that joke about a band no one has heard of in their hometown but are really popular in another country? That was Dokken from about 1979 to about 1982.

Arena concerts are never high quality audio just loud to where your ears ring through the next day. All these modern concerts only sound good because the recording is straight to the mixing board/computer. This show is from 1987 was probably at 150 decibels and we're just hearing what the microphones on the video cameras are picking up
