Gracias por compartir, quizá las nuevas generaciones no conocen este film tan interesante ..., con música tan bella de la que haya escrito e interpretado, por músicos tan geniales y cantantes tan talentosos.
Derek is the most emotionally inteligent from these three. He has taste, understanding and also modesty, which the other lack completely. One can see how much he cares about this piece. And above everythibg, I like that he's not 'cardboard perfect'.
The joy is hearing three extraordinary counter-tenors expressing their own voice. I've no desire to compare one with another, but simply to be thankful that I live in a time to hear such beauty. Robert.
Fine singing. I think that the three different sections could have been sequenced better, not mashed against each other. Franco Fagioli has a very interesting and challenging instrument.
Derek has the perfect voice - intense, beautiful timbre, velvet! Fagioli - too much drama and excessive vibrato, and Jaroussky's voice is a beautiful timbre that lacks some body (like skimmed milk).
I find Fagioli gets far too emotional when he sings. It does not suit this music, and detracts from it. The voice is indeed spectacular though. Second to none.
It is REMARKABLE that Derek Lee Ragin's 20-yo footage displaying his unique voice so full of many colors and shades still sounds so fresh and relevant, and no less "competitive" than the best of the current crop of the Golden Age of countertenors. John Eliot Gardiner was such a visionary in hiring him as Tamerlano, David, and Nerone, as well as Gluck's Orfeo. I know DLR had a respectable international career, but perhaps not quite the huge fame and stardom that he truly deserved, I'm afraid.

Franco est exceptionnel, mais sachez que dans ces opéra d'époque, on laissait des temps morts volontairement pour permettre aux chanteurs de faire des "fioritures"....En plus sachez que dans les hautes contre ou contre ténors il y a des basses , des ténors et des barytons......Cela change le jeux. Franco étant un ténor, Jarousski un baryton

My two favourite counter tenors for dramatic baroque arias - Franco Fagioli and Derek Lee Ragin. I also love Philippe but more for lighter baroque arias, his work with Nathalie Stitzman and church music. Wonderful to hear the three of them - beautiful music. I think Derek is the most versetile of the three from singing the purer lines of Glucks Orpheo ed Eurodice, to more ornate and dramatic Handel. Franco wins hands down with the uber difficult and very demanding baroque arias.
If, as I read, Philippe Jaroussky's natural singing voice is baritone, how is he able to sing continuously in falsetto, apparently so effortlessly? Incredible. His version here is particularly transporting... He gets the prize for inhabiting the role and adding drama. I particularly love the rubato of the detached final utterance 'fa' which adds poigniancy. I have been this repeatedly.

Bravoo!! his rendition great aria "Alto Giove" of Nicolo Porpora, italian composer masters of the baroque period, Alto Giove especially written for Farinelli. Phillippe said he was 17 when he went to see the movie Farinelli.
Who cares if a singer is black or white? Saying someone is white trapped in a black body infers that the black body is a trap, which is odd, to use a mild phrase. My favourite is Fagioli (who could be white/ purple/ green, who cares?), for the fullness of his voice.
Franco is truly great. Derek is amazing. Philippe has modern charm - his approach seems most often light-hearted and sorta fun! people enjoy that very much!

Instead of this being a tribute to that piece of garbage of a movie called Farinelli, that had almost NOTHING to do with Farinelli's real life, it should be a tribute to Porpora's genious. It is interesting that Porpora himself advised against the overloading of ornamentation in slow arias (as we see in the da capo sections sang by Fagioli and Jarousky), and he knew what he was saying, he wasn't only one of the best and most appreciated and famous Baroque composers, but in fact he was also the most famous voice teacher of the time, among his pupils were some of the most important singers, most of them castrati.

Not the best performance of Franco Fagioli who, at his best, can be light years from this, especially in his ornementations which he failed here. I would hate to compare these three artists. Each has his own qualities and is exceptional in his own way;. But here, only Mr Jaroussky is giving this false impression of easiness with a faultless technique.

Derek will always be my favorite. Less ornamentation but real depth and modesty. Franco and Phillippe are both very different and all are beautiful.

Not the best performance of Franco Fagioli who, at his best, can be light years from this, especially in his ornementations which he failed here. I would hate to compare these three artists. Each has his own qualities and is exceptional in his own way;. But here, only Mr Jaroussky is giving this false impression of easiness with a faultless technique.
