By far one of the best videos on generalization.. I struggle so much with this concept

If someone writes their name with a marker and a crayon, would this be stimulus generalization or response generalization?

Stimulus generalization. Response = writing, generalize to stimuli = marker and crayon.

Would paying for an item in different ways (using cash, card, or check) be stimulus generalization or response generalization? I’m confused because my thinking is each method serves the same function so that would be response? However, there are multiple stimuli (cash, card, check).

This would be response generalization. If I teach you to use cash to purchase (response A) an item (stimulus A) and then you start using a card and check (response B and C) to purchase the (stimulus A) you have generalized responses.

@@ABAExamReview oh okay, I see. So the methods of paying are not the stimuli but the responses?

Correct. If we were just paying for something, that would be a response. But paying with cash vs card vs check are all different responses. The item is the stimulus which remains the same regardless of how you pay for it.

@@ABAExamReview I see makes sense now. Thank you!

How do you differentiate general case programming from programming common stimuli the explanations sounded similar

General case analysis is more of an overview of everything you should consider for generalization. When you program common stimuli you are taking what you learned about the stimuli needed and working them into your treatment plan for generalization.

The stimulus generalization is wrong. That’s over generalization. Stimulus generalization is the ability to differiate between stimuli through training

      You’re thinking of stimulus discrimination!
