I have severe ADHD and the 40 hour course was so boring and I could barley sit through it. I found myself learning more than I did in that course from this and many other of your videos! THANK YOU!
If you’re looking to pass your competency exam, please please please watch!!!!! I watched this video about four times, took notes, and studied them and everything clicked for me! She is absolutely amazing. ❤️❤️
I think your video is awesome! I am a BCBA and am currently running a group of BHTs through my own "boot camp" of sorts to prep them to become RBTs at our organization, which includes a review of each concept and hands on practice with feedback. Most of the things that you have said in this video I have said at one point or another during these group training sessions :: I am sending them all your video as a review and to help them prep for when we complete the actual assessment, which should be soon!
Just so you know how effective this video was for me... Twice I failed the competency test. I took it again in Northern Virginia yesterday morning, and only got one question wrong, and passed with flying colors! As a former detective, I had to get examined assessed and took many many tests, but this one actually was one of the most challenging ones because of the extreme subtleties and so many factors going on. Presentations for aba are way to verbose and vague. I would say yours or the best ones I have seen so far!
This is much better! Far better presentation without the unnecessary music, which was actually quite distracting. Your presentation is spot-on and incredibly helpful!
I am currently reviewing for my comp and i have a really hard time with it taking a 40 hour training, but this made me feel more confident and actually remember all of the points I need. Thank you so much!! Will watch other videos for a little more review before I take it!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I have my second half of my competency this afternoon, and this has definitely helped me review and calm my nerves lol.
I absoultely love your energy arount ABA as a whole especially when giving definitions about each component of what will be on the competency. Please make more videos when you have time to do so... we need more enthusiasm in our ABA umbrella teaching moments.
I just found your channel and I can tell I am going to get a lot of useful, helpful information. I am recently going for a RBT and I know I am going to love it and Beyond and thank you for your videos each one is very helpful and gets me in the right mindset and prepared thank you so much❤
Wow, this was almost identical to the BT exam I just took. (We have BT vs RBT exams at my work. BT comes first.) Anyways, I have no idea if I passed, so thanks for these refreshers in case I need to retake it!
Thank you for the content and the help to prepare for the RBT competency assessment. To be honest, I was feeling nervous about it and I felt even more super anxious after watching this video and ended up rescheduling it. I'm not sure what it was - maybe the talking is too fast, maybe it is the presentation style. I felt like I was expected to know everything or something. I ended up watching other videos channels like yourABAhelp and aba exam review and passing it on the first try. I felt way calmer after watching and studying other videos that are more encouraging.
Thank you so much its time for me to renew ive been in this for 4 years but often forget the terminology because working with adults we dont use everything
Thank you! Right on the dot! Just the music is too distracting😢 but the review is very easy to understand and absorb the content with your easy style to relate this content. Thanks😊
Hi, thank you so much for this video. Do you have any video's on what to do during crisis situations? You named some scenario's and I'm nervous that my response to them is incorrect.
It depends on the client, the behavior, the therapy environment, the behavior plan, and your training. The BCBA should have a crisis plan written out if it’s needed and train you on it. If that’s not the case and there’s a crisis risk with a client, definitely bring that up to them.
you mentioned practicing these with a practitioner before going into my assessment? i feel confused on how i’m supposed to do that i guess… i just finished my 40 hr online training and was scheduled for my competency assessment this week
It’s best for companies to provide hands-on training with clients prior to your competency assessment so that you have practice with the techniques. You can always ask if this is an option!
@@moderndayaba oh i see thank you! it’s a small company so it seems they want to get me started asap. i really wish they would’ve provided me with hands on training first! if i don’t pass my competency assessment, i may have to ask if that’s an option. thank you!
You said that you reinforce at the very end when doing forward chaining. But aren't you reinforcing with verbal praise when they complete the first task independently? Ex. "Good job turning on the faucet!"
That’s a good question. Yes, you can provide praise! It might not function as a reinforcer as effectively as tangible or activity reinforcement, which is difficult to deliver before the end of the chain. It definitely depends on the learner, though. Does that make sense?
In professionalism and requirements (client dignity), your example of transitioning a client to another therapist and explaining how the session went but not wanting to explain their challeneging behaviors in front of them, what would you do in that situation? Would you have the child go play for a minute while you explain the session or have a thrid person watch the child and leave the room to discuss? Also, how would you maintain client dignity in bathroom tolieting training because wouldnt you have to watch the child perfom the task?
Great questions! Yes, leaving the room briefly while someone else watches the client can work. If your company has HIPAA-compliant chat communication, you can use that, too. As for the client dignity question, you give the client as much privacy as possible given the circumstances. The two main factors are 1) whether you have assent from the client to observe/assist, and 2) what skills are being worked on. If a client seems uncomfortable with your presence during a toilet training procedure, it's best to back off and ask for guidance from the BCBA or caregiver.
After you pass the competency assessment, you would schedule your exam through your BACB account (www.bacb.com). You can find all the information you need in the RBT handbook, which can also be found on the BACB website.

If there were separate videos for each component I would be unstoppable lol.🥰🥲
