I'm very impressed with the Dev team making Enshrouded, they have released over 3 major updates in under a year into their EA, It put the Dev's of Valheim to shame.
If you're interested in Tainted Grail, there's also a deck builder from the same studio set in that world. It's pretty cool, and worth checking out also.
I have a lot of faith in the Cyberknights devs, they do crazy long term support for their games. Just checked and their previous game, Star Traders Frontiers has had 359 updates, which includes additional content and gameplay mechanics, not just bug fixes.
And the Trese bros regularly post development update/progress reports. Early on, those are interesting decision-making, product dev planning, prioritizing, and triaging processes. Which can be interesting sausage making. Later in the product cycle like where Cyberknights is now, they are reassuring updates of regular, methodical progress toward the goals, plus the odd challenge-to-overcome. I dunno, I like the transparency and to know the rationale behind their approach. Well, and that the product is still on track--which is something other tiny studios should take to heart. Avoid the "is this game dead" posts, be transparent and let your sales leads know you're still alive.
Yeah both Cyberknights and Star Traders are pretty fun (btw cyberknights went on sale just a couple of hours ago) I also kinda liked the story (but not gameplay) prequel to Star Traders called Templar Battleforce which is a 2D tactical game where you command the templars in their power armors in the xeno conflict.
I agree so much on no rest for the wicked. Tainted grail is great too. I'm really pulling for Nightingale as well. The realms rebuilt update did wonders for it and I'd like to see them pull it off after a rocky start. Oh and witchfire and enshrouded are pretty cool too.
These all look pretty cool, but I think I'm most excited for Chef RPG and Fields of Mistria. I was a chef for almost 10 years and it judt really scratches that itch to get back in the kitchen, it's phenomenal. Fields of Mistria is just a delight. 80's anime aesthetic with the characters, the gameplay is solid and the music is fantastic.
No Rest for the Wicked is much better now in terms of performance, I myself haven't found a bug, just fps drops which they've fixed now. New update is also coming, and this one is slated to be the biggest one so far!
No rest for the wicked is a stunningly realized world and game, even this early on. I picked it up about a month ago and even though I’ve done most of what’s available in the game several times over, the vibe, art, and gameplay are just so good I can’t seem to put it down completely.
Caves of qud is releasing in 1.0 this december after 15 years of early access , its a traditional rpg with a lot of systems ,that mort would really like I think Some other good ones are scarlet hollow , project zomboid and inzoi(releasing in early access march next year)
So glad you gave NRFTW the top spot. I was hoping it would be throughout the video. It seems to be getting a lot of hate in the Steam forums due to people frankly not understanding what an Early Access period is. Moon is a phenomenal studio, and I have faith the game is going to be a gem in its final form. It already looks great, plays great, and brings a unique playstyle to a genre that’s been suffering from a lack of innovation for a long time.
I am recommending monomyth, currently in early access too. It's a first person dungeon crawler/immersive sim similar to ultima underworld and arx fatalis. I havent played EA build, but i played the beta build for a little and honeslty very impressed and i am super hyped for the full release
@@AgX_28 Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2. 3D does not really add all that much to RTPW most of the time, it's usually flat planes with ramps between height levels. Mask of the Betrayer is really the only very good NWN campaign
wow i'm impressed you picked up on the news around Private Division's sale - i know about it as a Take-Two shareholder as they mentioned it on their earnings call 2 days ago, but didn't realize it was out there more broadly in the gaming community. No Rest for the Wicked looks quite good, hope it makes it through successfully.
I'm having a blast with recently released Elin (rpg/rogue-like with a lot of systems) in early access even though I really don't like base building / farming / etc stuff in most games. It helps that the game is a lot bigger than that and there's lots of other stuff to do. I hope you'll try it one day as the game is a rare example of a hardcore traditional roguelike from Japan. It doesn't have permadeth (unless you want it) so I guess it's more of a sandbox game with rogue-like feel to it when it comes to combat, dungeoneering and some other elements, lol.
I didn’t even know about Greedfall 2. I’ll have to check it out. I’ll always give RTWP a chance as I dislike turn based and it feels like that’s going to be trend going forward in the industry.
Thanks for the video. I'm not even close to catching up on my backlog, so there's no way I could jump into something that's early access. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
One I’d add that is actually close to leaving early access is Ender Magnolia! Went into early access on PC last March but will hit full release across console/PC at the end of next January, it’s the follow up to Ender Lillies which was an instant favorite for me. Great atmosphere with solid gameplay all around I’m also excited for Hades II (unsurprisingly), No Rest for the Wicked, and I’m trying to stay hopeful for Greedfall II after how much I enjoyed the first game. I’m open to a new combat system, but the behind the scenes issues for Spiders could derail the project
There is this game called Wayfinder which was made by Airship syndicate (the guys who made The Ruined King which i LOVED) and was supposed to be an MMO, but the publisher shut down and the studio did a 180 and made an ARPG, it looks really fun and it is quite undermarketed and lacks a proper review ; ) I just wanted to bring this to you and see if it fits your schedule and gameplay. Thank you for what you do
Early access is a mixed bag. I've played tons of great EA games, but also have been completely ripped off by others. My real issue with EA is that if a game is good in EA. I play the crap out of it, and am less interested, and often never pick it up again after full release.
I'm really interested in Greedfall 2, it feels like RTWP is a rare genre nowadays. I always welcome more games into it. Maybe we can finally have proper DA:O spiritual sequels in future installments.
Had Tainted Grail on my Wishlist since playing the demo on a Next Fest last year. Waiting on 1.0 before I pick up. Same with No Rest for the Wicked. What's available now is Amazing, but the FUTURE of that game is gonna be huge. And will echo some others in that Enshrouded is already VERY VERY VERY Wroth the Money and only gonna get better with time.
Wow, Greedfall 2 looks completely different than the previous game. I was about to ask what game the footage that ran while you talked about GF2 was from until you clarified that they indeed completely changed the game... Mental
Another early access game to add is Stoneshard, a pixel art roguelike RPG. It has been in early access since forever, but is still being developed and the team being mostly Ukrainens and Russians (i think) it makes sense why it is not progressing super fast.
Be warned this game does not hold your hand. Its brutal at the start if you dont know what you are doing. Similar to elex, in the sense that you have to avoid the really hard stuff until you are halfway competent with skills and gear. Even then, without looking stuff up, youll have to play prolly 3 times before you get the hang of it. If you like that type of challenge this game is a hidden gem. Eager to see if development gets any further.
Some early access games I'm keeping an eye on are: Guild Saga: Vanished Worlds, Silence of the Siren, Tenebris: Terra Incognita, Monomyth, Spear Song The Slormancer, Towerborne, Archaelund, Dreadhunter, Xenonauts 2, Edge of War, Tales of Spark Lost Eidolons: Veil of the Witch, Sandwalkers, Age of Reforging: The Freelands, Combat Complex.
Would love to see a pros and cons of early access, I can find it frustrating when a game has like a core game play issue which if fixed would make the game so much better....but it never does
Even with the frustrating long update cycle and longer existence in Early Access, Project Zomboid always tops this sentiment for me. They've just done so much since they started with such a limited team, and the near-future goals always have my fingers crossed and ready for a reinstall.
I'm not very big into Early Access games (having been burned a few times) but I have to give Tainted Grail major praise: it's been a great game so far with big meaningful changes and additions that show the developers are listening to the players and delivering on the promises. On the other hand "No Rest For the Wicked" has been something of a disappointment; there have been some big additions through the early access period, but I really wish the developers would listen to the player feedback more and do something about the core combat gameplay because it just does not feel nice to play, souls-like or not.
They are listening. The Crucible was meant to give everyone something to chew on until “The Breach” update but then Take Two shutting down Private Division also slowed them down.
I had been thinking of getting into Tainted Grail, but that footage of hacking unresponsive foe in the back with a sword made me rethink. Too much Skyrim vibes.
Recently the entire publisher Private Division was sold by Take-Two to and unknown buyer, but they said they will support the game through out the development, so at least for now everything's okay.
not really an early access title (but has a demo on steam) - I would be interested what You think of Mandragora - a 2D souls like. Played it and I really really liked it.
Isn't No Rest for the Wicked from the Ori studio? It would be really suprising if they stopped development on that one, that's a relatively prestigious studio
Serpent in the staglands is a game I would really liked to have liked, but it was so obtuse and difficult to get into. Still interested in this fools game though
To me GreedFall 2 looked surprisingly beautiful (dare I say stunning at times), and ran extremely smooth even on a potato PC like mine, but the moment I entered the training battle I knew it: this is not for me anymore. I loved the combat in GF1, but here I couldn't even finish the combat tutorial. This thing just made me 180 away from it. And since devs have officially stated they won't change it, I'm left heartbroken tbh. Although my biggest question to developers would be: combat-wise why not having both though? I.E. keeping the og action-oriented combat from the GreedFall 1, as well as continuing to do whatever you wish with this new combat system they brought in GF2.
Hey Mortym. I really am hoping for a full release for NRFTW....that such a beautiful and promising game and so I hope the new owners push hard for that release 😢
Oh, my gosh… So, I’ve been playing CRPGs for years, and because of the difference in play styles and camera angles, while the consistency being that they’re usually more in-depth than other RPGs, I automatically assumed “CRPG” stood for “Complex Role-Playing Game”… I’ve been living a lie for 20 years!
The reason the introduced The Crucible in NRFTW is because the community were asking for it, so it's not an odd decision. They were responding to the community. Loved playing the Pathfinder class. Enjoyed that game.
What is the name of the deckbuilder?

I would like to also mention Windblown, from the devs that made Deadcells. It’s been a fantastic experience for me and my son!

Glad to see Banquet for Fools in there, this game is incredible and I need more people to know about it! It shapes out to be a future classic.

The reason the introduced The Crucible in NRFTW is because the community were asking for it, so it's not an odd decision. They were responding to the community.
