Just fired off my order to Rock Auto - $57 delivered. Thanks for showing this off. My 08 Passion (60k) has the symptoms (rough idle and hard initial starting) that you speak of. Trying to set all monitors for a PA emissions and the evap is failing to set. I have a pending P0497 but no CEL yet. I have about 200 miles on it so far, but I also learned that I may have overfilled the fuel tank which is a big no-no. I'll replace this valve, clear the codes and run a drive cycle again. I also have an iCarsoft MBII scanner arriving tomorrow. It's miles above the one I have now which is similar to yours. Very generic. I do not think it can manually test the purge valve though.

FYI the green clip is on the purge line coming from the fuel tank's charcoal filter. The blue clip attaches to the vacuum reservoir near the intake.

Thank you for posting your video. I watched your video and it helped give me an idea of what I was up against. My 2009 Smart Brabus with 60k miles had the P0497 code pop up a few times and I ordered the part from Rock Auto. The rubber mount the new part came with was wrong but I transferred the one over from the old part. Mine has the same rubber mount as yours. For me I found a long Robertson screwdriver worked really well to depress both hose ends during removal. Best of all like you said at the end of your video it runs smooth, really smooth like it is all warmed up and tuned. I was so amazed.

Thank you very much. Your video makes that replacement easy.
I did find that the OEM part I got has a different rubber ring for attachment to the chassis. However, it is easy simply to swap that rubber ring with the old part.

Thanks! And the little metal retainer pin is simply pushed down not removed or popped out. Hope that helps also.

question, what is the piece that you bought called because I don’t want to go to the mechanic and they’re trying to rip me off ? My car has the check engine light and the question mark thing, so I’m wondering is it something electrical power or is that piece?

You’ve mentioned you drive this from Vegas to Portland, so I assumed you’re from Portland. Actually I am also from Portland. I’m having problems right now on my smart car 2009.

I would assume the basic principle applies however I can't say for certain, I would see if Mercedes has an online pdf on how to replace

Often overlooked is how you can prevent this failure - WAIT FOR THE AUXILIARY AIR cycle to complete before you move your car. it only takes about 90 seconds. the back pressure is what drives the failure. it only happens at cold starts..
