      @@RedLP5000S Yessir you are correct! The 727, 737-200, and DC-9 are WAY LOUDER then the MD-80 since they use the older JT8D variant engines which have a lower bypass ratio then the ones on the MD-80. despite the older JT8D varaints on the 72, 732, and -9 havong to be hush kitted since they arent Stage III noie compliant, they are still alot louder then the MD-80s. Trust me, MD-80s arent that loud, they are only a little bit louder then for example a CFM-56 powered 737.
      Here are some more examples, they are much louder then the MD-80:

    This takeoff reminded me of a near ground collision we had while I was jumpseating on a DC9 around 1996 in DFW. We were cleared to cross an active runway and an AA MD80 was given clearance to takeoff on the runway we were about to cross, and when I looked to the right and said "hey guys, why are the runway lights moving? (it was a dark night). The moving "runway lights" were the landing lights of the MD80 coming at us. Just as we had crossed the hold line, the FO yelled, "STOP!" , and the wingtips of the MD80 went by about 50 feet from our cockpit. No one said anything, controller, us for a while, and I doubt the MD80 crew even saw us. Every time I look down a runaway at night, that airplane comes to mind. Unfortunately once all the MD80s and B717 are gone, so will those "runway moving lights" forever. Long live Mad Dogs.

    Awesome! I love the MD-80/DC-9. Nothing quite like the sound of a jt8d at full boogie. Plus they just look great too. Compared to today's ho-hum, twins on the wing jets. I would always try to sit in the back as close to the engines as possible. Love that spool-up sound at takeoff. Shame to see them getting put out to pasture. Air travel used to be much more exciting. Happy trails jt8d's.

    Cockpit is bad for todays standards in the likes of Airbus but pilots really seem to love this thing.

    • @sambrusco672
      @sambrusco672 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      why do airplanes even have a windshield in the cockpit anymore?? The pilots can hardly see anything from them anyway. They should be replaced with TV screens that can easily be removed if they should ever fall.
      Take a look at the back of your smart phone. Do you see that 3 mm dot? That’s the camera lens. Manufacturers could put these in the nose for a better view of the runway when landing. In fact, OEM’s could put cameras all over the plane to give pilots a view of every inch of the aircraft in cases of malfunctions. Currently, if you don’t get 3 green lights for landing gear, the cockpit conversation goes like this: “Is the landing gear down?” “I dunno.” “I guess we’ll have to buzz the tower so they can take a look.”
      And if these cameras are recorded on a third black box, these cameras would help NTSB immensely with accident investigation.
      Am I the first person to think about this??

    I few the MD8X series extensively with Delta and others. She is a cool air plane. Before Delta went slow take off roll and reduced power to make the tree hugging EV drivers happy (ugh) we would pull away from the terminal in Mobile, Al where I live and taxi briskly to the west end of the runway. When the flight got TOC the guys would hit about 90% throttle and blast down the runway JT8D's screaming like a banshee and before you knew it V2 ROTATE and away we go. This was when you could FLY a great airplane like you stole it. Made Mobile to Atl in 40 minutes a number of times (now at least 50-55 minutes, you now go slow....). Ah those were the days flying a airliner that sounded like a FIGHTER JET. Boy she was sweet. Miss her and her siblings. Love live the MD8X/9X family particularly with the JT8D best sounding turbojet around.

    If you look closely enough you can see a few dents and dings in the front of it ;) ;) ;)

    You might want to rename that one "Incredibly LOUD Delta MD-88 Takeoff". The engines on that bird made my system's subwoofer rumble like you wouldn't believe!

    Amazing Maddog. The closest thing to a rocket in commercial aviation...
