One World, One Heart ~ June and Jean Millington

  • In the early 80's I used to stay at my friend Karen Anna's house in Haiku, HI (that's on Maui). I slept so well there! One night, out of a deep sleep, I was awakened by a dream: there were Hawaiian elders, all women, who came to me with a shimmering, multi-colored cape of what looked like long bird plumage. They were putting it on my shoulders and singing softly, and I woke long enough to know it was happening. I was very honored, and the leaves swaying softly around the cabin were so very reassuring, the air sweet. A delicious moment, not to be forgotten.
I tried to honor them back by writing a song about what they were trying to transmit to me. Fortunately, a few years later Jean was able to record and sing it with me, at Black Oak Studio in Berkeley, CA. It was by now 1988.
The woman you see putting haku lei on my head is Laulani Teal, whom I met in Honolulu. I met her mother, too, who made it for me. Neal Izumi, also from Honolulu, took the photographs of us in the 90's - we visit the islands often - and Bob Riegler took the opening shot (that's actually in Fanny, but I didn't want to much focus on other than the music/intro at that point). Dianne Patterson, that is your powerful conch shell in the middle - with which you came with it to IMA to bless us - and the composite shot of me and Jean playing together was put together by Patti Millington for the "Play Like a Girl" album. Jean's shot is also by Bob, while in Fanny; mine was taken about 10 years later up in the Cotati/Santa Rosa area, at a gig.
    "One World, One Heart"
"ONE": A woman said in my dream today, be careful what you are thinking
What's in your mind all your acts betray
Before you are done blinking, yeah
She put a rainbow of light on me
Said you are here to be healing
So I am trusting you all agree, about what I am feeling, ye-ah:
    One World One Heart
    One World, One Mind
We have created a Wisdom Fire, for all the world to be lighting
Yes, one another you must inspire ~ and p.s. no more fighting, yeah
I walked on clouds and my eyes did see, that all the arrows were pointing
Away from Anger, Desire, and Greed ~ all our hands, they were joining YE-AH:
    One World One Heart
    One World, One Mind
Before the Battle is fought: One - Heart
Before the Battle is Lost: One - Mind
    ONE!
    Whole world crying
Can't you hear the world crying??
    One ... One ... One ... One ...
Before the Battle is fought: One - Heart
Before the Battle is Lost: One - Mind
    One!
What they teach, what they teach: One Heart
    One!
What they teach, what they teach: One Mind
may this video and song, with images, be of benefit.

Very nice song. My wife is a Filipina and I am inspired by you. My best peace was when I joined the Jesus Army here in the UK and went London to help the homeless. Eat, Drink and Pray we called it. I always found a lost soul to come on board and chat with the Sisters. It is lovely when you are in a group or community where everyone cares for everyone else, and you look for different ways to reach out to others, less fortunate. Love Above Gold as Captain Beefheart said.

@@JuneEsWorld Watching the video again. It touches my heart in the same manner as the John Stewart song Botswanna does. Caring, as in for care for others I would draw attention to the Rare Bird song Sympathy, one of my favourite songs.

Hey all, just wanna remind you that my sister Jean had a stroke a few years ago and still needs help. She's working hard ! You can donate to gofundme.com/jean-millington-go to support her and show appreciation for all her contributions to women specifically and music in general!
