    I have the Gigabyte 7800xt, play at 1440p and have 0 complaints. 16 GB VRAM, power efficient, and this thing stays nice and cool under load. For 500$, you can't beat it. Sure FSR may not be as good as DLSS, and Ray Tracing is iffy, but I'd take that extra VRAM, especially looking forward over the next few years.

      If you play at 1440p, 12gb doesn't really matter. Just sayin.
      That's a 4k problem.
      Edit: I had the choice and went with a 4070super. Raw perf, the 7900 is better. But dlss in single player games, and bam you rip the 7900 to shreds.
      Multiplayer games are reduced in spec so everyone can play them anyway. No real upside.

    • @firghteningtruth7173
      @firghteningtruth7173 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Also, the 7900 is 700, and at that point, might as well consider the ti super....and then, you might as well get the 4080 super.
      The 4070 super is the king in its price range for a reason. And if you were going for 4k, youd buy the 4080.
      The argument you (and lots of computer junkies, not just you) present doesn't actually make sense.
      Gamers, on average, buy a computer, then upgrade in 5 years anyway. The whole "futureproofing," thing is silly.
      If you "futureproofed," last gen and spent 12-1500 (or more) and got the 3090, a 600 dollar card does the same thing next generation.
      🤷‍♂️
      Buy for now. Cross the next bridge when you get there, instead of worrying about its construction before you've even seen it.

    • @firghteningtruth7173
      @firghteningtruth7173 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually, there is an exception. And it's at the very low end. If you can only afford a low tier proc, it might be worth looking into your upgrade in say, the next 6 months or a year. You can buy, then sell when you upgrade. And you won't lose much on the low end. In that case, if you like amd and can swing it, get the best chip that supports your gpu while taking socket in mind. But honestly, this is and extremely small portion of the population as people building budget pcs are probably looking at used components anyway, which...is probably gonna yeild better results.

    • @stuffmcstuff399
      @stuffmcstuff399 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danielbarnett5764 You have two options with amd, really, either get an AM4 mother board, DDR4 Ram and get the 5800x3D processor. Or just go full AM5 with DDR5 ram and get the 7800x3d.
      Both processors dominate in gaming due to the size of the cache. If you are more on a budget go for the AM4, AM5 if you don't mind spending extra.

    Generally good advice, had a definite "what i would buy" vibe at all the price points.
    But then, you jump the shark at the end talking about "my gaming PC". I get you want to make it clear the "money no object" choice is the 4090, but that cost you what, £0? If it had been an air cooled card...I'd kept it for sure. So looked around..and the 7900xtx is basically an upgraded 3090 ti. Same power draw....more fps...but same raytracing more or less. So sold the 3090 ti for 700...then bought a 7900xtx from Amazon for about 800...so only came out of pocket 100 bucks for the trade and got a card that can last 20 years because of fans. Lol

      @firghteningtruth7173 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I always think about it like this.
      Could I habe waited and bought something similar, but at a better price? Sure. (The answer is always sure)
      Say, a 4070 super, then ocing it.
      But, you wouldn't have had a gpu for a year. Also, the ti is better than the super (though, not worth the price difference, new, right now.)
      But, if the ti was say, 675-700, it would be right in line with price/performance. The difference is what? 50-150 bucks at most?
      So, if you rented that card...just to be able to play for a year...would you pay the difference?
      Lets say, worst case, it lost 150 buvks in value. Thats like...11 bucks per month.
      Would you pay 11 bucks a month to play games with awesome graphics while waiting on your upgrade? Youd probably pay more. Say 20 or 25 a month.
      If so, good purchase. End of story. 😂

    Raytracing is a must have if you're developing game assets like me. Software like Marmoset do not not allow you to bake game maps without Raytracing. Also if you are making some real-time 3D render animations, instead of waiting hours to get a frame, you'll go well with Raytracing 1000x faster.

    I have watched all your content for the last year or so.. and will continue to do so, regardless. Maybe Im mistaken, but I notice you tend to steer away from controversy sometimes...I understand this video is aimed more towards simplicity.. but when you make a.strong recommendation for the 4090, do you not have a responsibility to mention, at least in passing, about the demonstratively flawed design of the 4090, and the fact that an inexcusably large proportion of those cards, melt themselves down into a slag (connector design flaw), during normal usage. Yes the 4090 is the "best" card, but using one, is a very stressful experience...as you have to constantly check it's not about to self destruct. Appreciate your work :)

    • @Ureroll
      @Ureroll 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What controversy? maybe 0.01% had that issue, having a 4090 I assure you is no stress. if you are unlucky and the connector melts they give you a new card, like any other electronics. Amd had defective coolers and other issues too, that said overspending for hardware that get depreciated that fast ( expect my card to have same fps like a 600$ 5070 in less than a year) was something I will not repeat, but I ll worry about it in 6 years or even 8 years from now.

    For viewers wanting more context around ray tracing:
    Some games have built in settings and system to render the game with Rasterized or Ray Tracing. Some games are developed completely using lighting software that is built around Ray Tracing. All card brands are capable of Ray Tracing.
    The biggest thing when deciding about ray tracing, if it affects your buying process, is what games you play. For example, I play a lot of stuff like Dayz, Arma, Tarkov, And early access shooters using unreal engine 4 and 5 with lumen lighting. Not all of the games mentioned handle ray tracing the same. Just know your games and how they work. A great majority of the games I want to play in the near future might have ray tracing baked into some of the lighting, and may be unoptimized in the first place. However, the RT performance with 16GB AMD cards at the $500 price range at 1440p is fine for most games, as well as the niche ones I want to play.
    TLDR: If you’re worried about RT performance, save your money 6 months longer and build a top notch 4k build with a rtx4090. That’s where you’ll see your money well spent on new tech. Otherwise, cost per frame, tailored to your budget, shooting for 100fps; is the most solid way to decide on a long lasting gaming build.

    Agree with the higher budget takes.. recently swapped my 7900xtx for a 4080 super, similar performance but the driver stability on the AMD card was just unacceptable for me for a 1k gpu, getting ray tracing/dlss/better encoder etc as well as the more stable drivers just made it such a better choice, even though I really wanted to back AMD due to the original value proposition
    Edit - also, would you recommend a 1440p or 4k monitor for a 4080 super system?

    • @metalface_villain
      @metalface_villain 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i'm generally a fan of 1440p but that's mostly due to cost/performance and image quality for the monitor, gpu and all other parts of the build but since you already got a 4080 super i'd say you should go for a 4k, especially since nvidia has good upscaling and upscaling for 4k looks better than upscaling for lower resolutions, that's ofc if you can afford getting a decent 4k monitor, which are a little expensive. 4k will also be better if you use ur pc for other stuff other than gaming.
      i can't recommend you any 4k monitors since i have only done research and more budget 1440p ones since i'm broke xD but i'm sure you can figure it out by looking at youtube reviews and rankings. the only tip that i got is to go for 28 to 34 inches cuz if you go below that you are wasting a lot of money for nothing.

      @OmarChouikha sorry I didn't get to this sooner. It's pretty good if you ask me. The reason why is because you get a fair bit of versatility out of it. It has 16gb of vram, can undervolt down to using 185w max, and can even overclock to be like a pseudo 6800xt class gpu. In my opinion it's the best midrange option for versatility and future proofing right now unless you want av1 and potentially antilag+ (when amd figures that out) or need features like rt and uspacling (both of which can be argued to not be that important as selling points yet). Hope this helps!

    • @Shadowborg
      @Shadowborg 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on what you want to do with it.
      If you just play games, the 7900xt is slightly to significantly faster in a lot of games with RT off. The 4070ti super pulls ahead with RT on.
      Streaming could be an issue. If you stream on twitch, the 4070 will work better. The AMD encoder is useless, so you will have to use x264. I went from a 970 to a 7800xt, and I used to stream at 1080p 60fps just fine. Now if I do that using x264, my cpu runs at like 80 degrees which I dont like, so Ive had to drop down to 720p. TH-cam supports the av1 encoder, so that should work better.
      With content creation, the 4070 may work better, especially with adobe products.
      TL;DR
      Rasterized gaming: 7900xt Raytraced Gaming, streaming, or content creation: 4070ti super.

Is it more complicated to implement both DLSS AND FSR into your coding? If so, is the overall decision to choose one over the other determined by current market sales?
