I recommend waiting to buy a GPU, but if you're set on buying in October, here's my top 5 choices:
    Best GPU around $200
    RX 6600: amzn.to/3v5tNja
    Best GPU around $300
    RX 7700XT: amzn.to/3BYcWSx
    Best GPU around $400
    RX 6800 XT amzn.to/3vqbhSS
    Best GPU around $600
    RTX 4070 Super: amzn.to/3xWhEyG
    Best $800 GPU:
    RTX 4070 Ti Super: amzn.to/3T0Kfuz
Past this point is diminishing returns on "value" and next gen could be out soon, so I don't really recommend.

Another potential option like others have said, the 7900 XT is pretty good value right now at $630 USD. If you don't mind the lack of NVIDIA features this card blows every modern game at 1440p max settings without the need to upscale. The VRAM is a tad overrated but the 20(!) buffer over the 4070 super's 12 is huge especially when you start getting into native 4K (or specific intense game mods), which the 7900XT can do pretty well with high settings. If you don't care about RT, it's a decent compromise for about 30 bucks more, and personally if you ask me Raytracing isn't really a viable, comfy option until that 4070 TI S, 4080 S range. If you ever regret the lack of NVIDIA features you can always just return it, especially since some online stores like Newegg are doing a holiday return window thing where you have no questions asked returns all the way until Jan 2025. This is great for people who want to do some strenuous gaming right now while being able to have that cushion for that extra money going into the next gen cards.

The 4070 Ti Super doesn't just have more VRAM than the 4070 Super, it also comes with double AV1 encoders as opposed to a single one, it has a wider Bus, and the same Processor as the 4080 (AD103). Nvidia gonna skimp on memory and performance again, and in reality the 5080 will be closer to 5070, and the 5070 will be closer to 5060 in performance. They really want you to buy the 5090, or else you're getting the nerfed cards. And after selling them like hotcakes, they'll release refreshed versions with little bit more memory, cores and performance, more in line with what the actual gains compared to the previous generations should be. But then you didn't even mention the 7900 XT even though it is actually 26% better in performance for the $ than the 4070 Ti Super. I find it strange.
The 7900 XT is only $639 now. Which is $140 less than the 4070 Ti Super. And the card was even $615 a few days ago. That's a pretty noticeable 31% difference. And we can expect such discounts again around Black Friday. Will Nvidia also drop $200? I highly doubt that.
And will the 5070 be cheap and powerful enough to justify waiting another 4 months? I doubt that either. The 7900 XT is 40% faster and has 67% more VRAM than the 4070. But MSRP of the 4070 is $600. If the 5070 is also $600 at launch and only has 12GB again, the 7900 XT 20GB at around $600 is still likely to be faster and a better buy than Nvidia. I'm kinda tempted to go for a 7900 XT. Why? Well, it comes with 20GB and 320 bit bus for 700€ in my country. Taxes included. And it's definitely enough for my use and I don't really care about Ray Tracing anyway as I don't notice the difference most of the time. The only thing that worries me is if it can eventually use FSR 4 but at this point so few games support the latest and greatest features that I wouldn't be able to use anyway. And if 8800 XT comes with a 16GB and 256 bit bus then I don't know if it's worth it. And rumors suggest there is no 8900 XT or XTX. And even if something like that comes later and RDNA 4 or any future cards is miles better than 7900 XT, I'll just buy another card then and give the 7900 XT to my brother or sell it if he doesn't want it, lol.

If price to performance is a major factor and you are not turning on RT/ FG, then it's better that you went with the 7900xt, especially cause you get that 20gb Vram vs 12 gb(I heard a lot of people get near their 12gb vram and can't max out their performance). At similar pricing, 7900xt is even more powerful than 4070ti super. It all depends on what you value more. I would say if you had the option between 4070 S, 4070 ti S, and 7900xt, if money is a concern, I would go with 7900xt, if money isn't much of a concern I would go with 4070ti S (also maybe be on sale on holiday season/black friday) or better yet wait for 50 series release.

So you did fine unless you're trying to go for heavy RT which in my opinion heavy RT is only even worth turning on for 4080 and above. Sure 4070 ti super can handle it but it won't be as smooth.
7900xt is a great performer even in lighter RT, just don't expect Cyberpunk Overdrive Path tracing on it. I'm also plenty interested in AFMF and their newer upscaler since they finally decided "heck let's just go AI"

Upcoming used market is looking fantastic. Finally, a lot of high performing GPUs coming under the $500 range and below. When the new 50xx lineup cards are released, it'll crash the mid to high AMD GPU market. Both new and old cards. The used market sets the value levels of products. If something is valued right, the used price is semi close to market price. Used 7900 xtx/xt has to battle against everything from 4070 to 4080S. It's going to be a buyer's market with used cards.

    • @Monsux
      @Monsux 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@Deedee48-jg9om Nothing to do with my point on the new or used market change when the new 50xx line comes out. AMD is in a tough spot. There's no new high-end cards coming, and they have to sell current models at lower price. If they don't drop the price soon, people won't buy their cards. If someone does buy their higher tier options, the value loss is massive in the used market.
For example, used market value for 7900xtx should be lower than 4080(S). If there are a lot of used 4080 models available, it drops every GPU model prices below that. There will be a lot of used RTX 40xx cards in the near future. Soon will be a great time to buy mid to semi high tier GPUs.

    • @Monsux
      @Monsux 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Deedee48-jg9om I was talking about future used prices after the release. Don't care about some random personal used price now in a limited market area, but GPU market as a whole. In the US and Europe, AMD high-tier is priced almost the same tier as similar performance Nvidia GPUs. They will have to drop from around $1000 / 1000€ price to close to 700-800 range. 4080 used models will drop to that range pretty fast, so the whole high-tier market is full of much cheaper high-end cards.

I managed to pick up a refurbished 7900xt from microcenter for $570 a few days ago. This card is a massive upgrade at 1440p compared to my now old 3070, and a no-brainer at the price I got it at compared to the 4070 super. Unfortunately, the 3070 was never really powerful enough to allow me to play at high RT settings, and the 4070ti super is significantly more expensive, so AMD seems to be the way to go for the foreseeable future for me

The things I worry about with waiting for next gen GPUs are, will I be able to get one at launch? Will Nvidia offer a reasonable price for a 16gb card? Will AMDs gpu have enough performance now that they aren't competing with the high end? If I wait for next gen GPUs and nothing is worth buying will I miss out on cheaper current gen pricing? I really hate the GPU market right now. It is absolute dogshit for consumers.

      1) No. Best you can hope for is probably a 5070 18GB for $649-699. TSMC pricing isn't helping us out either.
      2) Great performance for 1440p, at 4K it'll depend on the developer and your frame rate targets. FSR 4 could be a significant improvement over 3.1, if you're okay with upscaling.
      3) If you're willing to buy used, pricing will be even better by that point. If you want to stick to retail, yes, because current-gen stocks will be dry by then.

@@Vorexia $700 for an 18gb 5070 sounds generous from Nvidia, if that is the case, will it even be available is the real question. I hope they do better this gen, but I find it doubtful. @@JerrySpringfield1 Nothing theoretically stops it from being $749, yeah. Nvidia is no alien to having people pay an extra $100 for more VRAM, as seen with the 4060 Ti.
Considering your selection of GPUs, I'd recommend waiting until RDNA 4 comes out in January, 2025. Leaks aren't to be trusted, but IF they are true, leakers have believed for quite some months now that the 8800 XT will be slightly faster than a 7900 XT at raster and on the same level than a 4070 Ti Super at RT. All for around $500. Again, to be taken with a heavy grain of salt, but if that's remotely true it could save you a hefty buck.
But again, that would invoke the risk of the supply of your selected GPUs being in limited supply.

I do not totally agree. With the "leaked" prices of the 50 series, the price per fps is going to be higher for the 50 series. And with the stock of the 4080 Super going down so fast (90% of retailers here in my country, has sold out their stock of the better versions of the 4080 Super), I would say now is the time to buy a 40 series card, as it has a better price per fps than the 50 series. At least as of release. Six month down the line, this might be different though. So we are talking about a time frame of summer next year maybe, before the 50 series could potentially be worth it.
But then we go into the same circle of, should we wait or buy. Then we are eying the 50 series SUPER in the near future. And so continues the never ending circle.
Now is absolutely the time to buy the 40 series. If you can wait for offers in November, then be careful, as most of the better versions will be sold out before that. I am sure there will be some nice deals on PNY, Zotac etc. If you are fine with those.

The 7900 GRE is decent compared to the 6800XT - it's 15% more performance yes.. for only 13% more of the price!
So it scales VERY well for spending more money going UP the product stack AND its a newer architecture so it runs cooler and quieter and will get supported longer with better potential technologies and optimizations in the future.
Personally though I'd recomend to keep checking on the price of the SAPPHIRE 7800XT - for some reason it keeps going on sale on Amazon dipping below 400!!

If the price of the 5080 is comparable to the 4090 next year, I’ll definitely trade in my 4080s and get a 4090.
If NVIDIA releases two 5080 variants-one being a 16GB and the other a 24GB-and they’re cheaper than the 4090, I’d consider it based on the price and the new tech/AI features that would be included in the new card.
Regardless, with 16GB of VRAM and being a 4K/RT gamer, I upgrade every 2-3 years anyway, and I always get a good resale value and put it towards the new card.
It has been a solid upgrade plan for me. My primary decision to upgrade depends VRAM, and new features, especially for high-resolution and ray tracing gaming.
I never really complained about the prices I paid $749 for my 1080ti, $1.2k for my 2080ti, so of course I’d pay $1k for the 4080s. I only skipped the 3080ti because of the outrages scalping prices . But if the 16GB of VRAM proves to be pathetic the next two years, I’ll sell it at a competitive price, cut my losses and enjoy a new card.
If the 5080 series offers good performance at a competitive price, it could be an attractive option, especially with advancements in AI and other technologies. Given my upgrade cycle, trading in my cards for new models is a decent strategy to maximize value since I like to keep up with the tech. I’ll keep an eye on the benchmarks and reviews once the new cards are released to make the best decision!
I’m a married gamer, who married a gamer and we have no kids. And both work, we can easily afford to enjoy the PC experience. Plus my wife never knows what to get me for gifts so she always gets me a GPU or CPU. She’s amazing :)

Buying AMD or Intel stocks is better than buying their gpus.

    Amd is taking over.

AMD is NOT taking over, if anything it's the opposite.. rumors and leaks are showing that the 8000 series won't have any cards that even get to the performance of the 7900 GRE.. let alone the XT or XTX.. They are pretty much waiving the white flag and will only be the "go to" cards for true budget gaming. .1080p or 1440 on lower fps or lower visual fidelity

      Amd will never take over.

Unfortunately not, at least at the high end. Maybe they will be aggressive with pricing in the mid and low price tiers they are aiming to grow marketshare in.

thank you. i was toying with getting the new 4080super. but i will wait til jan and see how the 5080 compares. hopefully the price jump isn't more than the performance gain.

I would say just buy the 4080 super and if you need the extra performance of the 5080 you can sell the 4080 super.

What about 7900 xtx compared the to the 4070 ti super? These are going for about the same soon. I’ve seen xtx for 820$ already which is similar price range

The 7900xtx would be better but you can look at recent comparisons on youtube.

Trump tariffs negate the idea of waiting for new GPUs. Adding a 60% tariff makes me shopping for all my upgrades before the end of the year. Also, don't expect huge sales. 5090 is $2000 and won't impact other gpu prices in any way. amd navi 4 will be between 7900xt and 7900xtx for $600, so again not worth waiting for after tariffs. navi 4 is ready to go, they are just selling back stock before competing with themselves. I'm looking for a 7900xtx for around $800(zero Fs given about ray tracing).
